Have played this whole process to perfection. Mayo hints early on it'll be QB, let the hype for QBs reach a fever pitch, come draft week start using the media to drum up more lucrative trade offers.

As others have mentioned, you don't do this if you are absolutely dead set on a QB like CHI/WAS. Maybe they're just holding out for a godfather offer and fully intend to take a QB. But that the door is evenly slightly ajar has to be a positive.

unless he gets the guy he and Daboll are really sold on.

I think when it comes to crunch time, he will make the strong offer. Otherwise, NE will keep playing him against Minnesota or Denver. Better to hover and strike!

Then what? is it as simple as WAS takes Williams and NE takes Daniels or some combo of that? Or do they now consider trade downs?

Will never happen, Williams has been the top pick since October basically, but the draft is pretty boring with so long between picks and the manufactured propaganda/human interest garbage and talking heads talking to hear themselves talk, so some drama would be nice.
