NFT: DiVincenzo a 3...... BANG! BANG!!!!!

Stylesy : 4/23/2024 3:42 pm
Hey Folks,

How are we all the doing after last nights' extrordainary comeback?

I've seen plenty of whining from the 76ers in the Media, Nurse and Embiid in particular.

What are the expectations for Thursday's game?

Hopefully Thibs and Co can find a way to slow down Maxey.

More importantly, hopefully Jalen Brunson finds his stroke again.

Any thoughts on tonights' games? I think it's particularly important for the Suns to get something from tonights game.

Can't wait for Thursday LGK!

Winning game three is a lot to ask
bceagle05 : 4/23/2024 3:50 pm : link
but I never underestimate this squad. Hopefully they get one of the next two. I can’t take a seven-game bloodbath.
Brunson needs to play smarter.

Other than that, hell of a job by pretry much everyone. Deuce ripping the ball away from Maxey is the epitome of this series so far.

Interesting to see how both teams respond.

I'm not encouraged with Brunson's game at the moment. Feels like they could be down 0-2.

What I love about this team, is that Brunson can have bad games and still win. If this were the Knocks of the 90's, and Ewing would have a bad game, the Knicks were losing for sure.

The teams that win ugly games or win games they're supposed to lose are the teams that win Championships.

I'm very conflicted about Thursday evening
Bob from Massachusetts : 4/23/2024 4:34 pm : link
I think both the game and the draft on, and sound for the Knicks until 8, then silent until the Giants pick, then silent for the draft to watch the game. And watch for any dramatic trades. If I wasn't going out of the country Friday evening I might record the game and watch the draft, but that's gonna get very late.
Embiid is a great shooter
Bob from Massachusetts : 4/23/2024 4:39 pm : link
but it seems like he really can't jump/rebound, and I'm thinking that will continue for the rest of the series. But he can clearly keep putting up 30 points. On the other hand I think Maxie just had a great night, he can't keep shooting like that. Their problem is they really don't have anybody else to score either in the starting lineup or bench. Lowry with a few 3s, but not much.

It seemed like they started doubling Maxie as he passed the 3-point line, which might be the best strategy since I don't think anyone, even McBride, can cover him 1:1. They have the big bodies to play Embiid; Maxie is a tough matchup.

For Brunson I think he had open shots that just weren't falling, so he can't continue like that. Can he? And then somebody (DVD, McBride, Hart--Bogdanovich?) has to be able to score if Brunson can't.
4Q scoring before the final flurry
shyster : 4/23/2024 4:43 pm : link
Before the 8-0 finish, Knicks had been outscored 27-17 in the 4Q.

Those 17 points broke down as follows:

Bojan 6
Deuce 5
Hartenstein 4
Brunson 2

Zero (to that point) from J Hart, OG and DDV.

That didn't happen because Brunson was being selfish; it happened because he is the only (consistent) shot creator in the starting lineup. The others are scorers of opportunity, for the most part.

This is going to be a continuing issue for these playoffs, even if some more of Brunson's shots go through the net.

And it's the big issue the Knicks face going into next season: do they rely on Randle's return to provide the additional shot creator? Or do they make a major move for another player to fill that role?

McBride shows some potential to be able to create shots on a regular basis. He could be very Brunson-like if he continues to progress. But they really do not a multilevel scorer, not just a guy who can sink 3s. DVD can do that sometimes, but not consistently.

From the Sixers’ standpoint,
81_Great_Dane : 4/23/2024 5:33 pm : link
their game plan appears to be to take away Brunson, and to free up an extra defender to harass Brunson, leave Hart unguarded on the perimeter and dare him to take the 3.

It’s working on Brunson but the Knicks are winning anyway. Hart is hitting enough 3s to undermine that strategy. And in the course of the first two games, Embiid has shown that he can barely move by the fourth quarter and Maxey has looked inexperienced..

They’re not likely to change their plan. It might work better at home where they’ll expect better play from their role players and a fall-off from the Knicks’ role players. But the fact that their strategy is sort of succeeding but they’re losing anyway has to frustrate them.

No wonder they are whining.

PhilSimms15 : 4/23/2024 5:49 pm : link
in fact, I can't stand them and have hated them since somehow they stole Dr. J; George McGinnis; and Rod Strickland.

But I think there is a good chance they beat the Knicks in 7 unless Brunson pretty quickly becomes the Brunson that we all know and love.

The Knicks cannot stop Maxey (which is a surprise as that's the main reason they picked up OG) and despite playing on one leg, Embiid is scoring 30 without much trouble.

Other than Brunson the Knicks do not have a consistent second scorer and that is going to cost them dearly unless somehow Brunson starts hitting open shots that were money during the season.

I'm very concerned.

I'm not worried because Embiid + Maxey is just not enough for Philly to win. We have enough role players and bench talent to overcome those 2, as we have seen the first 2 games. However, if someone else gets cooking along those 2, then I could see us being in trouble without Brunson finding his shot again

Sixers literally just threw their 2 best punches eith Brunson not shooting well, so unless you think Maxey and Embiid are going to score 40 a game, how can you be concerned right now?

Knicks are literally proving they can win with Brunson not playing well..

Brunson is going to have a game where he gets hot, its just going to happen...

looked to be on the upswing with a nice young core of Ewing, Oak, Wilkins, Jackson, Newman, and Strickland. Then Pitino left and they idiots in charge traded Strickland for washed up Cheeks. Didn't help that Kenny Walker was a bust. It all eventually lead to Riley, but they really wasted several years of Ewing's athletic peak.

That Strickland for Cheeks mad me so mad, it still annoys me lol. I was watching a game recently with my daughter and Strickland was there and when they showed him on the television I had to tell me daughter about the trade.

I'm getting old too! My kids remind me about it pretty regularly (I'm an older dad).

I was living near Philly at the time (glad I left yrs ago). I don't recall Ewing being involved. I just remember Mark Jackson being the primary broom guy (but someone else like Oak may have gotten involved, just don't remember).

I had mixed feelings about it at the time, but in the end felt - it's Philly, f^ck 'em if they can't take a joke!

It wasn't something I thought would be talked about 35 yrs later. But here we are!

I still remember where I was (driving in the 'burbs of Philly) when I heard on the radio the Knicks traded young Strickland for clearly past his prime Mo Cheeks.

I was like WTF! You've GOT to be F^ing KIDDING ME!

I think this was the same yr the Mets had traded Lenny Dykstra and Roger McDowell for Juan Freaking Samuel. Dykstra and McDowell helped the Phillies get to the WS, while Samuel had 1 sucky half season w/ the Mets.

It's not even a matter of 20/20 hindsight. Both trades seemed atrocious at the time and ended up being proven to be even more atrocious than they were at the time!

How did such clowns get into positions to make such horrendous decisions?!
