NFT: Anyone switch back to cable?

Gap92 : 4/23/2024 9:42 pm
I’m likely doing it. Almost solely for sports. I currently have YouTube TV and while I like it, I can’t watch Yanks/Yes or Mets/SNY., which is very annoying even though I’m not the most avid baseball watcher. Yes, first world problems…

Ive tried Hulu and hated it (I missed most of the second quarter of the Giants/Vikings playoff game because the feed crapped out). And I’ve had and liked Fubo but they no longer have SNY and are the most expensive of all my options.

Getting a good deal going back by bundling my internet (which I already pay them for).

For me, the dream of streaming live TV just isn’t reality…at least not yet. Services are either too expensive or don’t have what I’m looking for, or both.

Anyone else do the same?
Well cable sucks

too. They all suck. You need a combo of both I fear, to get what you want. Then you will only use 20% of the channels.
Yeah you’re not wrong

The inability to watch almost any baseball just got me fired up a bit. Cable has all of the 5-7 channels I’ll watch (while paying for the other 120 or so). And then of course I’ll have to add RedZone for more $.
I’ve kept Direct TV but cut back on package

And for streaming I have Prime, Hulu with Starz, and many of the free ones
Went back

To Spectrum. But I just have the bare bones package. I do need my live TV still. Have all the others (Netflix, AppleTV, Hulu/Disney/ESPN, Paramount), 'cept Prime. Might start switching around again, costs are creeping up.

I usually keep to myself about how I watch the games, but when I saw your post, I had to reach out. I would never openly violate any rules here, so if you're interested in what I do, my contact info is in my bio.
I will say, I get everything for little cost without cable.

My mom's house has cable. I never watch TV but I do use the account to stream games all of the time at work. I do have MSG+ and Peacock though, I still have to finish the Office superfan episodes.
If you go back ...

Contact your provider's "retention" department every year. That's what I heard from an employee of my cable company -- Optimum (Altice). So I did that and they screwed things up on their end for three months ... but did eventually get my monthly charges down. I have Prime, Hulu, Peacock, and Apple+ in addition. I feel like I'm good ... at least for 11 months!
I admit I am tempted to

I still just don't like the app-style presentation of channels in general, and streaming services don't have a DVR that's nearly as responsive as traditional cable DVRs. The performance isn't always great either, and every so often I have to close out of whatever I'm watching and re-open it to resolve a freeze that appears to happen after fast-forwarding.

I have also found the retention department of my cable company to be far more helpful than the "regular" place you land when calling.

I'm waiting for the days where pay for what I use. Maybe 10 channels max during football season, then like 5 other times. I'd be happy to pay a $ per channel.

Right now I'm using Hulu, which is not bad, but the price keeps rising on it since 2021.

However, I even called back my cable company, Spectrum, to see if I could negotiate back in as I have internet with them. They were not competitive at all.
