It was also very interesting to hear the enthusiastic Maye clam up, respectfully, when asked pointed questions about how close he has gotten to the Giants. He was asked to discuss his most recent contact with the Giants. “I went up there for a 30 visit and since then [we’ve been] just keeping in touch, not trying to say too much,” he said with a laugh. Then he was asked if he met Giants co-owner John Mara, and how that went. “Um, I’m not gonna speak on anything,” Maye said nervously. “Sorry about that. Yes sir.” |

The Giants also like McCarthy as a prospect. It seems likely he is more palatable to them as the pick at No. 6 or even a bit later, though, compared to where Maye stands at the top. Regardless, they are heavy in the QB market and must be considered leading contenders for a top passer unless and until they are ruled out. Everyone’s information at the moment is couched by qualifiers, of course, because sources say the NFL seems to be working hard to conceal teams’ intentions for this draft in the age of legalized and rampant sports gambling. |
Maye seems like a Giant.
Maye seems like a Giant.
Maye is probably more outspoken than Eli, having said a few things about rival schools in the past that came back to bite him … hopefully he’s learned.
But like Eli, he’s been bred to play QB following his father at UNC. And his brother who won an NCAA BB championship is a hard nosed, all out competitor. My only concern is that Schabs needs to understand what caused the late season regression and can it be corrected?
Yes. At this point AND every other point in this process. You can speculate and read tea leaves, but there are like six people who know what the Giants are thinking and none of them have spoken to reporters
Maye seems like a Giant.
As much as I like Maye, is this the concern? The comparisons between Jones and Manning seemed like a big part of the reason why Jones was selected in the first place. Mara and Gettleman were looking for a Manning clone and clearly, that did not turn out well.
I am hoping that scouts have to be looking at these players as individuals and these "player comps" are really only used by fans and the media. Manning was unique. To try and compare these players does more harm than good.
i paraphrase but arguments are intriguing. fwiw. who knows.
