Worst Case Scenario

Giants1986 : 4/24/2024 7:41 am
Bears-Williams
Commanders- Daniels
Patriots-Maye
Cardinals-MHJ
Chargers-Nabers

I guess you stick and pick Odunze or try to leverage McCarthy to move down but man that will be a bit disappointing, Seems like the most likely scenario too.
which

is why the Giants may have been hoping McCarthy goes in the top five.
Yep
Fifty Six : 4/24/2024 7:44 am : link
Thats how my mock draft simulations keep going too. Will be a tough pill to swallow for sure.
How do we know, they do not want JJM?
George from PA : 4/24/2024 7:46 am : link
Perfect for a trade down
what are you talking about
stoneman : 4/24/2024 7:47 am : link
Odunze will be great - size and speed, no drops. I want him more than Nabers.
To each their own I suppose
Chris684 : 4/24/2024 7:48 am : link
I see that as among the best cases that can play out, but it would require faith in McCarthy.

If not, there’s still Rome, or the possibility of a trade down.
Stoneman
Giants1986 : 4/24/2024 7:49 am : link
Odunze is a fine prospect nothing against him necessarily. He is a bad fit for Jones who cant throw the ball down the field, Nabers seems to be a much better fit for the quick game, slants, screens, etc. I guess its just tough to end up getting boxed into WR3 at pick 6.

I'm basing this off the assumption they wont pick Mccarthy after all the insiders reported that last night.

Jones can throw the ball down field - probably better than what else they have. He just will not do it. There is a huge difference.

Personally, I let Jones go the minute he is of IL...
Trade down with the Vikings
jeff57 : 4/24/2024 7:58 am : link
Might be able to get Odunze at 11 anyway.
Then Trade Down!
varco : 4/24/2024 7:59 am : link
You have Minnesota, Las Vegas and Denver wanting a QB. Assuming they have McCarthy rated well, then get the best deal you can and load up. Alternatively, I'm sure there are teams which would love to have Odunze. Trade with them and get a haul. Could work out very well if we use the added picks wisely. The glass is more than half full.

Can't wait for this speculative stuff to end.
I find it interesting that we don’t want the 4th QB
Rjanyg : 4/24/2024 8:06 am : link
Or the 3rd WR. It is entirely plausible that this draft is loaded with very good quality players at these positions and going with the glass half empty view that we are absolutely settling for inferior talent just because several players at a similar position get drafted before us is narrow minded.

The Giants could do a lot worse than drafting McCarty or Odunze.

Honest question...Did I miss something that would us pretty definitively that McCarthy is not someone we would take at 6?

Let me ask that again using English...

Honest question...Did I miss something indicating that McCarthy is not someone we want at 6?
This was always the most likely scenario
BillT : 4/24/2024 8:09 am : link
Three QB needy teams followed by two WR needy teams. Five blue chip players. There is little incentive to trade when you’re getting what you want.

We are not making the pick based on fit with Jones. We are picking who best fits with what Dabol wants to do. If Jones cant work with Odunze, Hyatt and Robinson, Lock or whomever else will.

This draft is about moving away from Jones either by taking a QB or building for the next one.

I love Odunze and would be happy to draft him, but You need to take an offer if you can get a 2025 1st and still pick top 10-15. If we don't get our QB this year we need more shots at one next year.

Mostly conjecture from draft talking heads based on possible discussions with players agents reaction to Giants' level of interest in JJM. No one knows anything.
Don't think this happens
ZogZerg : 4/24/2024 8:18 am : link
I see Chargers trading out or going OT.
I would not hate that scenario at all.
Vin_Cuccs : 4/24/2024 8:18 am : link
It makes the decision somewhat easy...it would not be a reach for McCarthy there, Odunze is a clean prospect, and a trade back would probably net a haul.

In that case I sprint to the podium and take McCarthy. Only thing that would stop me would be an enormous trade offer from Minnesota or Denver that involves multiple 1s and for Denver, Surtain.

No. Just a gut feeling.
a 2025 first
The Dude : 4/24/2024 8:27 am : link
from Minn,Denver,Saints, LV ? would be nice to move back.

Ask for a 2026 first...for Arch Manning. Half kidding.

Get iced out of the QB sweepstakes and punt to 2025.

They can get picks 11 and 23 from the Vikings this year.

If they like JJM, they should take him at 6. Don’t screw around and let some team jump you for him.
I don't think the Pats want Maye
JonC : 4/24/2024 9:16 am : link
so there's that, but the issue is will the Giants need to box out the Vikes and are they prepared to do it.
Odunze
JoeyBigBlue : 4/24/2024 9:29 am : link
Would be a great pick up. He’s super solid, a high character guy, and is exactly what this team needs, a No. 1 receiver that attacks all levels of the defense.
Is it?
Finch : 4/24/2024 9:33 am : link
If JJ is there, trade down. Pick up some MUCH needed assets. You could draft Penix and trade some of that capital for Aiyuk. I think that would make them, at least in the short term, a better team than having to trade up for Maye or even staying put
In this scenario
sshin05 : 4/24/2024 9:52 am : link
You have to root for another team to jump ahead of the Giants to get one of the quarterbacks if the Giants are NOT drafting a QB.
I would try to trade down in that scenario
US1 Giants : 4/24/2024 9:54 am : link
.
The Giants will just
pjcas18 : 4/24/2024 9:56 am : link
take Penix according to the leaks today so it works out perfectly for them right?

wrong. lol.

I will say though, a lot of people have Odunze rated in the same general area as Nabors, so not a bad consolation prize and he has size which the Giants lack at WR.

Best case in that scenario they work out a trade back with a team who likes McCarthy and the trade includes a 2025 first. consolation prize, draft Odunze.

Trade down, get another pick from someone like the Vikings
PatersonPlank : 4/24/2024 9:57 am : link
and take Nix or Penix
This is the most likely scenario
Metnut : 4/24/2024 9:57 am : link
so people here better be mentally prepared for it. We'll always have Tommy Cutlets and those memories at least.
Worst case is trading up for a QB

Worst Case

Trade up to #3, giving up 2024 #6, #47 and #70 and 2025 1st rounder, pick Maye or McCarty who turn out to be Zach Wilson / Trey Lance bad.

MHJ, Nabers and Odunze turn out to be superstars.

The Giants finish with the worst record in 2024 and have no 1st round pick in 2025.

I think Thomas is in the top recievers

Worst Case (For the draft a QB crowd)

Draft goes:
1 Chi - Williams
2 Wash - Daniels
3 NE, desperate to trade down and unwilling to drop to #11 with Minnesota reduces their demands to the Giants 3rd round #70. Schoen plays hard ball and passes. NE drafts McCarthy.
4 Ariz - MHJ (believing he is Larry Fitzgerald 2.0)
5 LAC ask for #70 to swap with the Giants. Schoen refuses, assuming he’ll get Maye at #6. Minn gives up #11 and #23 and takes Maye.
6 NYG go with the safe pick with Odunze, who ends up having separation issues against NFL corners and turns out to be Golladay 2.0.

Before Schoen can trade up for Nix or Penix, they are drafted at #12 and #13 by the Broncos and Raiders.

The Giants only QB taken is an undrafted free agent from Nowhere State

Maye & Nabers are co-Offensive rookies of the year.
