Such a foolish statement considering how much more use a stadium can get out 8-10 football games per year. Year round events and attractions make sense for everyone involved, fans and owners alike.
I understand the notion of "cold weather is what football was meant to be played in" but the pros outweigh the cons. Dishing out big bucks to sit in miserable weather conditions is an absolutely brutal experience.
RE: And the Bears want half of the cost publicly funded.
Cities are so stupid. Fuck these teams. $$15 Billion industry and the taxpayers have to subsidize billionaires in order to overpay millionaires? Ridiculous. When will people wake up? Let them build their own dome.

Single use stadium designs are a thing of the past. Economics and cost requires a multipurpose built facility.
play in person. Soldier Field had a lot of character. I like those old stadiums
A ton of character prior to the renovation. I looked at aerial shots of the stadium from the '80s, and it looked a lot more regal (albeit smaller). No other stadium I can think of in the US had this kind of classic architectural adornment.
I could see that adding a lot of aura to the '85 Bears run.
If anything, it seems the big structure behind the stadium that has been largely obscured by the current Soldier Field will be a lot more visible per the video.
So site wise this will be a nice improvement over what's existing. It's unfortunate the purist football element will always be at odds with modern stadium construction (i.e. domes over open fields).
They could have attempted to replicate what was done in Glendale, AZ for the Cardinals stadium, retractable roof with glass and a field that could be rolled out.
Just not sure that was in the plans.
Who needs a cool downtown stadium with modern luxuries
Every city wants revenue from football, concerts, Final Fours, UFC, and Wrestling. That’s where we are going.
I love football. I hate this goddamned league.

Crazy that people recognize how wasteful it is to have an enormous venue that is essentially useless for months at a time due to bad weather.
I think Chicago is even more corrupt than NY. So, if they say 4B add a couple of more Bs to it.

Well said.
would you like a shopping mall to go along with that?

Maybe it's me?

Exactly.
