Rule of thumb with the draft

Carl in CT : 4/25/2024 9:30 am
Always take the best prospect. Never force. Draft for need if you are real close to a SB. SY has everyone’s respect around here. He was three WR as the highest ranked prospects. It’s a position of need also. Take the best one available. Enough said.
I'm not sure I even buy drafting for need if you are close to a SB.

The Chiefs did that with Clyde Edwards Helaire. That was a bad pick. I know we can find cases where this worked and cases where this didn't work. I like what the Eagles have done. They have drafted guys along the DL and OL knowing they wouldn't start immediately but knew they had guys close to retirement. So, they weren't an immediate need but were a future need and at premium positions.
I don't adhere to any hard & fast rules in life

Even situation is different and should be treated as such.

Rule of Thumb to Compete in the NFL
Jim in Tampa : 4/25/2024 9:48 am : link
When you don't have a QB and you're in a position to draft one, you draft a QB.

There's great WRs available every year. But your team can really suck, in a year where there are at least 3 top QBs and you can still lose out on the QB. (Potentially: The Giants this year.)

Enough said indeed.

(Although it is nice to read one of Carl's posts where he's not pounding the table for OL ;>)
