personnel moves so far don't inspire much confidence, especially his QB evaluation skills. I am concerned he will give up four #1's to move up for Maye in order to try and make up for signing Jones to that ridiculous contract. That would be a total panic move IMO.

I think your assessment is way off. I don't think Schoen made the Jones choice completely by himself or without a push to keep Barkley. Regardless though that deal sucks for us..
By over spending on a new QB to make up for the Jones contract. Jones came off a decent year with a road playoff win. QB’s are insanely paid and he gave him just above market value. He did have enough sense to make 2025 voidable so he has that going for him. Who knows what happens tonight but whatever does, it won’t be something to make up for something in the past.
Nobody in the top 5 wants to move down to 11. I'm guessing both AZ and LAC want MHJ or Nabers. I would love it if Schoen just told Wolf he has a deal in place to get to 4 and he likes Maye and JJM, so they can just take their guy no worries. That deal in place with AZ really gives Schoen a lot of leverage and puts a lot of pressure on NE.

He could have used the FT on him, but that would have meant not resigning Barkley, and after the playoff win, he was trying to "keep the band together." But I do agree that he at least structured the contract so that the cap hit next year for cutting Jones is manageable. The problem though is that it will still be $22M, the largest in franchise history. And that will increase by another $23M if Jones can't pass a physical.

3 big mistakes for Schoen so far:
1. DJ contract without letting him test FA and without getting a deal done for Saquon or letting him walk so he could tag DJ.
2. Failing to trade Saquon for anything he could get even a medium Pepsi at the deadline. He should have realized Saquon wanted to test the open market and a team like the Eagles would overpay him. He should have been able to read the vibe of Saquon wanting a fresh start somewhere else too. This mistake cost us big time as I believe we would have been picking 2, 3, or 5 at worst.
3. Drafting a right tackle in the top 10 on a guy that did no athletic testing. I know most people had pidgeon-holed us into drafting a right tackle here. Eric was one of the few mentioning how it's not a good value pick in the top 7. He was right. The average salary for starting right tackles is less than 8m aav. Draft right tackles in late rd1 or rd2. We could have had Garrett Wilson or Olave there where the value makes much more sense.
I'd give him a B- for his drafts, obviously we need more time to see. This could change if Flott, Neal, Hyatt, JMS, Wandale, Belton, Bellinger, and KT develop well. I don't think they've been awful, but not great either.

Wrong the correct move was to sign Saquon to a long term contract, Saquon was not looking for CMAC money but he wanted to be paid fairly.. you know as the face of the offense should. What Eagles gave him, maybe a little more guaranteed would have gotten it done. But Mara chose to rather give the bag to his chosen boy then our best player on Offense. Now Saquon is gone and we are stuck with Danny Mediocrity for aleast one more year

Not tradinbg SB and drafting Wilson were two major mistakes! But I still don't see AZ trading with anyone having 11 picks and 5 in the first three rounds. The have enough picks to fill a lot of holes and if your WR1 is there you don't move back and risk losing one or both of the top two WR..

Word is their coaching staff leans toward Nabers, front office leans toward MHJ. They like them both a lot. And we would likely be trading them a 2025 day 2 pick or 2.

No. See that is my point. I think Mara made it known we keep Barkley , do whatever you have to and keep Barkley. The only way to not destroy the Giants situation completely was get DJ signed and FT Barkley.. It is easier to pass. Inflate QB $'s and have an out than it would be Barkley.. I hate it, we should have FT Jones and let Barkley walk and instead those two moves got delayed a year...
is on point. AZ is NOT going to be interested in more picks for this draft. But to build up 2025, they would, especially if they are day 2 picks. And they get either MHJ or Nabers?
That's why I think the rumor that Schoen has a deal in place with them has some legs.

I agree and most Giant fans didn't want to use the franchise tag on Jones either (even aside from the Barkley situation).
It seems everyone has forgotten that Jones got a standing ovation at home after a 4 TD (2 passing, 2 rushing) game Jan 1, '23 against Indy. Then he went and threw for over 300 yds and beat a 13 win team on the road in the playoffs (first Giants playoff win in a LONG time).
It wasn't crazy to think he was (finally) on the upswing after a few yrs of shitty coaching, OL, WRs and injury.
It was a tough situation. Oh well. Time to move on.
