Draft Value Based on Sy Over the Year: Who is Worth What

Shecky : 4/25/2024 3:25 pm
Long story short, did a deep dive into Sys grades over the years. And where players were eventually picked. And the Draft Chart value of said picks.

This will take into account where teams value, or don't value certain positions. So positional value is baked in. What isn't baked in, is current teams needs, etc going into tonights draft.

Just pure Sy grades, and what draft slot, or value, each players has.

Longer story short, the numbers SCREAM to draft one the WRs as the value will be massive.

And NOT draft a QB if one is available, though Maye/McCarthy are fair value at six. ANd under no circumstance, accoridng to value and Sys grades, would movingup to take a QB and pass on a WR make any sense. Against all emotion and conventional wisdom.

And if all three WRs, and top two QBs are gone. A trade down to a QB hungry team becomes a no brainer.

The real value then becomes OL, another constant weakness. Or Q Mitchell at CB. Even Brian Thomas at WR. So G men are clearly in a good position here..

Oh, and the third round of the draft is INSANELY good/deep/ridiculous value...

Ill post the data below, for those interested.

Sy's great

But that historical spreadsheet shows he's no more accurate than anyone else doing comparable work. He had a higher grade on Isaiah Simmons than Parsons. Not a knock on Sy. Just an indicator of how much of this is a crapshoot.

Through visits and other access TEAMS have about 50% more info than the draft guide producers, and they still get it wrong at an alarming rate.

For JUST the Giants example, check out how mostly bad their 1st round picks have been since 1936. Only 3 HOFers.

Look at the list and ask yourself how many were true stars, or even lived up to where they were drafted (even with another team). It's probably less than 10.
