Bypassed 2 QBs who went 2 and 4 picks after us and as I’m typing this I think Denver is taking Nix at 12, all for a wide receiver which may be the deepest position in this draft.
The Giants have very little hope to sell fans for next season.
They had to know that by not picking again until 47, they were going to get one chance at a significant QB selection and they passed it up.
we'll see how it ends up but it was certainly an unexpected endorsement of jones.
they tried to trade up for drake maye though, so it would seem they had qbs who they saw as upgrades and others they didnt.
I do not believe that they tried to trade up for Maye. Nabers was their guy. Imo the talk about the Giants trading up was from other teams trying to increase offers.
rapaport is usually pretty accurate and he reported it after the pats made their pick that both NYG and MIN made a last attempt to get up and they said no.

From our NFL Draft coverage: The #Patriots had big-time trade offers... and decided to stick and pick.
Jones is a > prospect than McCarthy, Penix and Nix.
Because he had a crack at all three and passed.
Frankly, I really don't want to hear anymore that Schoen is taking marching orders from Mara. I keep hearing from a group of posters how SMART Schoen is.
Well, if you believe that, you'd better believe Jones is his ticket. And he has tripled down.
All 3 are better than Jones. But, one way to look at it is Nabers is likely a lot better than any of those 3. Basically, with Nix now gone also, this is 100^ on the shoulders of Jones. WR1 to go with Robinson and Hyatt and an improved OL. No excuses. Put up numbers for the first time in your career.
I very much doubted the Giants would take a QB. I get the diligence, and I certainly believe they rated Williams, Daniels, and Maye all as upgraded to Jones. But I don't think they were ever going to make a huge push.
They simply like Jones a lot. And if you like your QB, you don't go out of your way to replace him.
Best case is Drew Lock is resurrected and we don't

i'm surprised they werent more concerned with the injuries. anybody can get hurt but if you have 2 anybodies you have twice as good of a chance to have 1 healthy one.

Then this narrative wouldn’t exist
Do you think they would have tried to trade up if they were doubling down on DJ?
Most teams in QB he'll are trying to improve, but just don't hit on the right guys. We are actively committing to this loser while making massive donations to his generational wealth fund.
I wonder... could it really be as simple as ownership simply refusing to acknowledge they were wrong about him? It honestly seems that base.

Great point and something myself and many other fans simply overlooked because we want to move on from Jones.
Unless they were in the top 3 and there hands would truly forced, they weren’t going QB.
And definitely think there’s buyers remorse on that contract. They probably like him as a bridge option though. A lot of this first round decision had to do with opportunity cost imo, there were better non-qb options in this draft than basically all of our other top 10 picks in recent years. This was a better draft, probably the one we should have had the 5th and 7th picks in. I think that factored more than people realize.

Yeah I do think it's that. But I'm also not going to defend Schoen. He wasn't able to do anything about it so he's worthless. I guess the only escape for us at this point is that Jones gets old enough and chooses to retire or gets injured enough that he can't continue

So you don’t know what the offer was?
But you’d rather complain that we are all in on DJ with in fact they did make an offer
They obviously didn't like the group after the top 3. Gotta trust the work
Have you 'trusted the work' these last 12 years?
Exactly. “Trust the work” of a franchise that can’t draft worth a shit.
New front office and they spent a ton of time with the QBs
I am sorry they didn't ask you for your opinion on the draft. Obviously we should have let this crew make the selection
He isn't good. Nabers or not. Improvements along the OL or not. And people can't say that we haven't tried to bring in weapons or improvements in front of him.
He isn't a gamechanger. He's barely average. The team overpaid, and now we are stuck with his fragile neck for yet another season.
Yay.
....."And people can't say that we haven't tried to bring in weapons or improvements in front of him."
Yes, we tried ... and failed. Look, I'm not a huge Jones fan ... definite flaws. But saying we TRIED to get him weapons and protection is not a reflection on him, we FAILED. Given all the circumstances, I think we made the best choice tonight, not because we owe it to him, but because it's best for the team. Feel free to disagree.

Because it's possible to like two things at the same time.
When the Giants picked Nabers, there were 3 top 15 QBs available. And they liked Daniel Jones more.

Did we make a legit offer? Did we even make an offer? I don't know.
Again, I don't doubt Schoen called Wolf to get a feel for the situation. But maybe it was a call to check a box.
Who are you saying we should have made an offer for? Unless Washington had shocked everyone and not taken Daniels, I wouldn't have traded up for Maye or McCarthy. And, it ended up McCarthy was there for the taking anyway.
Now, with no QB to take in round 2, the question is are they better with Jones/Nabers or McCarthy and a round 2 WR in a WR heavy draft.

anyone who wanted a QB. I was ecstatic at yesterday's rumors that we had No. 3 overall.
But, the Giants didn't pick a QB at 6 because none of them were better than Jones. When they couldn't get their QB in Maye they stuck to their board and got BPA. This is what good teams do. It's why the Ravens are so good at drafting.

Yes the excuses are over for DJ. The flip side is, he has never had a #1 WR worth a shit until right now.
