I am fully aware that situations are fluid and there is a risk to putting stock into asshat reports.
But the way things materialized yesterday with separate, but similar time of day input, from Rico and GD, it suggested a done deal. Eric even decided to post the updates in their own thread, usually he lets asshatery be hidden in other threads.
Something happened that we have yet to hear about and maybe never will. I don’t think I buy that a deal was struck and then rescinded. I am curious if Joe outted a mole yesterday.
I don’t buy the other nonsense or gibberish in Stars and Stripes thread about Jones and Mara.
The only real outcome is we found out they didn’t have a superior grade on McCarthy.
This had nothing to do with Daniel Jones.
If there really was an agreement and either the Pats came back and said no fuck you we want more or Mara chimed in and said, never mind; both these scenarios are fucked up.
Maybe they have the same source and the source jumped the gun a lil bit. Could be that simple.
We don’t need any so called “asshats” to know what happened last night.
The Patriots needed a QB, just as bad as the Giants and were in position to get the one they wanted. If they were to ever consider moving off #3, it was going to have to be a deal that absolutely knocked their socks off. IE 3 #1’s and some change. Too rich for the Giants blood. So here we are.
If NE was never dealing, then the only logical explanation is asshatery is a BBI hoax. Is that what you are suggesting?

Because they got bad info. It happens.
Tommy Cutlets had nothing to do with it. He managed the game and the Giants were much more healthy and playing mostly horrible teams
Quote:
They have no QB and they obviously liked Maye. Any other interpretation is just not logical. Thank Tommy Cutlets that we are stuck with Danny Dimes

He literally beat Washington and NE. And yes I was being facetious about Tommy Cutlets, but that whole 15 minutes of having fun cost us possibly a decade of a good qb
If this is true then they did the right thing taking Nabers. That’s a fair offer.
Fair enough. I didn’t make any bets based off this info 😊.
I’m just curious if there is more to the story.
That, and "reading between the lines" about what reporters report and treating that as gospel.
"Sources tell me the Giants like a QB" all the sudden turns into, "It's confirmed the Giants are making a deal to trade up and take a QB. Mara must have blessed this."
Maybe we heard what we wanted to hear.
If I followed this advice I would never have been this close to a windfall of money from a guy in Nigeria that I have never even met.
Sometimes a stranger is a friend you just haven’t met.

As far as the "asshats", I find their posts to be entertaining, but I take them with a big grain of salt. It's too easy for people who want attention to make shit up and then later tell us, that the deal fell apart or that the Giants must have changed their minds at the last minute.
And then 'confirmation' that the sides had a deal in place. Also talk about an AZ deal being in place.
And then...nothing. NE said no thanks, with the spin now being that they were dangling for the big haul. Yeah, this was the pre-story. There's a disconnect between NE looking for the big haul, and the done deal not being close.
It's understandable that deals go south. That the draft doesn't go as planned. Except the draft went as planned, but there was no deal to go bad. Absolutely nothing changed to kill the deal.
The deal was always Schoen pressing hard for a trade, but he either was blocked by his own owner, or NE. IF Mara put a limit on the trade, this was already known.
Doesn't sound like there was ever a deal, but rather that asshats were looking to make a name for themselves. Note that the historic asshats worth listening to didn't go overboard. It was all the newer asshats who went for the kill.
I love asshats. It's part of the excitement for draft day. But it's a big drop from 'tune in at pick 3' to 'nothing to see here'. Some tried hard to be THE big asshat for the season, and failed.
That's worse than the Mendoza line, 1 out of 10
I am not blaming DeVito, he did his job and good for him. I am blaming our stupid reactions to winning meaningless games like we won the Super Bowl. Treating him and his agent like the Kardashians etc and last night we saw the real life effect of that 15 minutes of fame. DeVito did what he was supposed to do, we all acted a little over the top with it though.

blaming DeVito, just be fortunate Tyrod Taylor didn't start more games or the Giants may have lost out on Nabors.

That was an awkward "15 minutes" for sure.
He, and several others, said Maye was the target, and stuck with that (although JJM was raised as being in the picture). I think wanting Maye was a very poorly kept secret.
Wanting to trade up for Maye (or even higher) was well known.
The issue is the Mara spin which I find so tiresome.
I may be mixing Rico up with another asshat who only posts 100% info and it’s usually not that often and it’s usually only minutes before it happens.
Or we misinterpreted.
Regardless, my hopes were elevated for a few hours yesterday.
I’m excited about Nabers, but like others, I just can’t fathom another season of excuses why DJ doesn’t produce. I’m sure Nabers only being a rookie will be a common one from the DJFC.
Besides, it was good entertainment for many nonetheless.

There was probably mixed opinions in their war room, and finally one group won out.
The Giants weren't giving crazy comp.
It sounds like New England had set an unrealistic price on pick #3 and no one (including the Giants) was willing to meet that demand.
Schoen didn't overreact, didn't reach, and stayed true to his board.
As much as I wanted a QB, I am very happy with the process and that Schoen did not let the pressure control the situation.
Now for the next question...where are they going to find a QB?

"Where are they gonna find a QB?"
What do you mean? They already did in Drew Lock. That is the QB room for this season. Lock, Jones, and Devitto. That's it.
This. For the "you pay whatever you have to for a franchise QB look at the Eli trade" crowd, thats not how it went down at all. SD was holding out for 2 major things- Osi and the Giants 2nd rounder that year which was the first pick of the 2nd rd. Accorsi held his ground and kept both while getting Eli. It was a much different situation as the Giants pick was #4 not 6 and SD liked Rivers almost as much as Eli so getting the future #1 worked well for them. This was a totally different situation last night. You have to put a limit on what you trade for a guy like Drake Maye. The guy is not a Peyton/Eli Manning/Lawrence/Roethlesberger level prospect. listen if this year doesn't go well we get the QB next off season. Because of those late season wins it wasn't in the cards this year. Most any other year it would have been but it just so happnes you had 3 QB desperate teams at the top of the draft which almost never happens.
Now back to talking about 2025 draft position...
Now back to talking about 2025 draft position...
So true. I was on top of the world from about 3pm until our pick. Then doldrums again.

He followed that up with 'no trade if Maye is taken' (paraphrased, but close).
DJ now has the best excuse ever. Injuries have robbed him of a promising career. The neck injury may be affecting his throwing motion. Whether it's true doesn't matter.
