The ‘Giants Like Daniel’ Take

wigs in nyc : 4/26/2024 8:54 am
I see this being bandied around alot since last night, and I still don’t know that there’s evidence to support it.

At the cost of two 1s and one 2, they tried to replace him.

Believing that Nabers was a better option than the remaining QBs doesn’t mean they like Jones. I’m glad they realize the folly of signing yourself up to years in the development of a QB they don’t fully believe in - again.

It means they like him more than three other QBs the NFL deemed were top 12 picks.
There is no evidence

Well, we shall see

If Drew Lock outplays him and Jones keeps the job, which is what I expect to see happen....

You are misunderstanding the difference between evidence and proof.
No evidence?
HardTruth : 4/26/2024 8:59 am : link
There is 160 million dollars worth of evidence

We have made 17 draft picks in 3 years of Schoen/Daboll and have not drafted a single QB

What more do you need?

Q: Joe, do you view the quarterback position as a high priority, your next pick is 47, or do you remain comfortable coming out of this draft without one?

JOE SCHOEN: I’m comfortable with where we’re at.

That quote from Schoen sums it up

Yeah, my gut feeling is Jones would have to play godawful to lose his job, and he can't even injure himself out of the starter role due to the guarantee.

I think a performance even at the level of 2020 and 2021 keeps him around.

Yea, we’ll see if they actually gave an open QB competition
I’m good with last night BUT they can’t go into camp with only the 3
Spider56 : 4/26/2024 9:01 am : link
QBs currently on the roster… they will draft 1 either today or tomorrow… frankly, I’d still try and trade for Jake Browning, but I know no one agrees with that one.

I think Daboll will surely start Lock if he feels he’s better than DJ.

Does it? The remaining guys are no better than Devito, that is a false statement for proof. Don't confuse the question, the options with proof of belief or desire..

Don't confuse the QB's taken in RD 1 with what the Giants considered to be rd 1 talent. No way Penix and Nix were RD 1 grades (just doesn't possible)..
It seems obvious the Giants love DJ
CasualFan : 4/26/2024 9:08 am : link
I doubt they will draft a qb in any round (imo). If healthy, I expect DJ will win the job out of training camp. When that happens, BBI will be unreadable with all the bitching.

We can keep bringing up the contract
UberAlias : 4/26/2024 9:11 am : link
Except that isn't where we are now. DJ has had two injuries since signing the contract --a season ender and a second injury to his neck. Are we really going to go there and suggest that that wouldn't change the way you view your investment?
and Here's a good question
Dave on the UWS : 4/26/2024 9:33 am : link
NOW what do they do about the injury guarantee? Cross their fingers and pray? Good strategy!

The absolute takes on this site are so over the top.

It's not some conspiracy that Mara is making them keep Jones, blahty blah. They liked him enough to give him the contract but that doesn't mean they haven't had regrets about it. It also doesn't mean they don't still like him better than the BBI QB know-it-alls (Which they CLEARLY DO). And doesn't even mean they clearly like him better than who they didn't select at 6 this year... it just means they have already committed to him and there was not enough evidence that who was available at 6 was worth taking based on the current situation.

They clearly understand the roster NEEDS to be better.
You draft the most talented player, that has the least
gpat1031 : 4/26/2024 9:42 am : link
chance of being a bust.
They couldn't get Maye or Daniels so the target became 1 of the top 3 wides and Nabers was arguably the best of this class. The bust rate for QBs is too high and you can't just draft one at 6 for the sake of drafting a QBs no matter how much the fans were calling for it.
I agree with christian
Sean : 4/26/2024 9:44 am : link
If this was the plan, why didn't they bring back Tyrod Taylor? Taylor when healthy is better than Lock.

I can argue the QB room is WORSE than last year.

No it doesn’t. It means that they didn’t think any of the QB’s were worth the 6th pick. Let’s say they agreed that JJM would be an upgrade over Jones, but didn’t see him as a franchise QB, should they have taken JJM anyway? No, in that case, they did the right thing by passing.

Schoen’s comments mean nothing. It was pure GM-speak. Look at what he does, not what he says. Now, him not drafting a QB is a valid point, but he clearly tried.

Which, let's just be honest, is exactly why so many people who didn't want to move on from Jones were THRILLED by the Tommy Cutlets nonsense.

Those wins pushed them out of position to draft one of the top 3 QBs and made this the most likely scenario.

I want to move on from Jones, but I was happy we were winning. I will never cheer for a Giants loss. Will there be times that I am not disappointed when they lose, yes, but never will I want the other team to win.

Step 1- Get another QB

Its not a mystery.
Giants obviously like Cordell Flott
djm : 4/26/2024 12:41 pm : link
and both safeties. And they obviously LOVE McFadden at LB. They love their DL which is fucking insane as they are wasting DL's talents by surrounding him with journeymen.

I think Mara lets Flott baby sit his grandkids. Don't believe me? Wait a minute let me create a new handle and dish out some insider info.

Appreciate your info.
they've had plenty of opportunities to move on from him
BigBlueCane : 4/26/2024 6:18 pm : link
and haven't.

People say actions speak louder then words, well we've seen their actions.

Jones is QB1 until he's not on the team anymore.
