Clearly, I doubt any of these moves would happen, but I was thinking about potential player trades for additional draft capital going into day two of the draft. Schoen himself has mentioned more picks as more chances to get quality players.
Do any players on the roster have trade value?
1. Slayton has already requested a new contract or a trade. We can quibble about his value, but I would absolutely trade him for a mid-round pick...maybe a 4th? He did generate some interest in free agency last year from Atlanta. I wonder if New England could use a player like Slayton.
Succession plan: it is a risk to trade the leading receiver for 4 of the last 5 years but hopefully Hyatt is ready to take that starting spot regardless. Hodgins and Boykin could provide insurance on the outside. I wonder if Bryce Ford-Wheaton could develop into a rotational player on the outside after the ACL recovery.
2. I wonder if Tommy DeVito has any trade value as a developmental QB/solid backup option for a team with a strong starting QB. He did generate interest at roster cutdown time last year. Would some GM be willing to give up a 5th-round pick? Would moving DeVito open a roster spot for a drafted QB? It seems unlikely they would go into camp with Jones, Lock, DeVito, AND a drafted QB...which leads me to think that they may pass on drafting a QB at all this year.
Succession plan: a drafted QB in the 2nd or 3rd round.
3. Would Schoen be willing to pull the plug on the Evan Neal Experiment after only 2 years? Does he even have any trade value? I don't think I would move him for anything other than a 2nd or maybe a high 3rd. This is risky for a team with historically bad line play last season and would signal a failure for Schoen. Do the comments about the fan base flipping burgers still linger with Mara and Schoen?
Succession plan: Eluemunor at RT, and either Stinnie or Ezeudu at RG or LG with Runyon at the other OG spot. An interior offensive lineman looks like a draft need regardless, and that player could also provide depth.
I keep seeing Slayton mentioned. I wouldn't discount it. But the Giants finally have depth at WR. I'm not sure I do that unless I get a good pick, and who is going to do that?
DeVito has no trade value IMO.
Slayton has trade value. So does Ojulari. And neither will be here next year in all likelihood. But I would be surprised if the Giants traded either. If they want more picks, my guess is that they get them by trading down, not by trading players.
I understand your point. But if Hyatt tears an ACL and we dont have Slayton do take those snaps, will next season look different? Not in a meaningful way. Will our win total go down? Maybe, but I doubt it and if it does, it isnt going to prevent us from making the playoffs.
I like Slayton but he is not part of the future, IMO so if you get a change at an early day 4 pick for him, you take it.

Until we add a QB DeVito is a Lock with the new 3rd QB rule he(or Jones if we have balls) wont count against actives on gameday. Don't have to deal with PS elevations and what not to carry 3rd QB although he will count against the 53.
