Given the front office's Buffalo relationships, plus the Bills' extreme willingness to trade down, do you think we would've traded up to somewhere in the 28-32 range to get Penix had he been available?
I would've loved to have had the fifth year option on him without having to give up a king's ransom and without having to miss out on Nabers.
I think we'd all be walking on clouds today had this scenario played itself out.
Penix was never going to last to the end of the round.
Penix would have been gone well before the Giants could have traded up from 47. Unless you want to get insane and trade future 1sts
I would guess the Giants' board had him with a second round grade since they passed on him at 6. If so, trading up to nab that fifth year would've made a lot of sense.
But, I guess everyone overrated McCarthy.
It was a 6 QB class in your mind only. History tells us that 1-3 will be studs, 1-3 will end up as busts, and the rest will end up somewhere in the middle. The Giants are paying their scouts to determine where the QB's will end up. If they see that JJ, Penix, and Nix will end up on the "bust" side of the ledger then it is a good thing we did not select them.

And we picked sixth. I guess the value didn't line up.

When you have a narrative like terps, facts don't matter...
If you look at draft patterns it happens where QB's get clustered at the top of the 1st and then don't get picked again until much later.
Often there is no middle ground with QB's - you love them and take them early or you don't.
In this case the QB's were really bunched up at the top of the 1st. I wouldn't be surprised to see just one or two QB's on day two and three with Rattler, Pratt, Travis and Milroe as probably/possibly the only other drafted QBs.

Maybe Daboll and Schoen didn't view JJ, Penix, and Nix as being worth a top 12 draft pick but clearly other GMs did.

Six QBs went in the top 12 picks - I think it is fair to call it a six QB class...

People considered Josh Rosen and Todd Blackledge to be Top 10 picks

Yes, thank you.

Including Sean Payton and Kevin O'Connell. I guess they don't know shit.

So? Draft picks bust all the time. The fact that three QBs went in the six picks after us is evidence that there were good QB prospects available.
Should we only draft Trevor Lawrence / Burrow / Luck - type QBs?

O'Connell got rid of Cousins and the triumvirate of Hall, Dobbs, and Mullens all looked worse than what the Giants got out of Tommy DeVito/Tyrod Taylor so we shall see if O'Connell knows when it comes to evaluating QB's.

I would take Josh Allens and Lamar Jacksons. If you think a player will be a bust you don't take him just because someone else picking after you likes him.

We don't draft any type of QBs. At least not any longer.

Easy to say with hindsight. Allen and Jackson both had extremely high bust potential. And they are great examples of why it may be worth taking a chance on less than perfect QB prospects.
