When you watch these highlights look at the protection or lack thereof and who Jones is throwing to.
Yet he was successful.
I know it is heretical and not a popular thought, but I think that Jones will play well next year and the Giants will make the playoffs.
This team will be better and they have a much easier schedule.

Jones needs to elevate this group, and he needs to do it fast, because at a bare minimum Tommy DeVito can at least run the offense.
I give him no more than four games. If they are not an efficient, dangerous offense by the end of that stretch, they should bench him, plan to cut him, and don't play him so that he doesn't potentially get hurt.
1) he will be fine w/ good protection
unless
2) he is mentally shot as a QB from years of abuse (ala David Carr)
Pretty hilarious
unbelievable
I'd love to see it this year consistently...I just don't think we will.
Jones was not as bad as advertised.
Jones did lead the team to the playoffs in 2022, with an inferior team.
He is the Giants QB this year like it or not.
The Giant's only hope to be competitive is for Jones to play well.
You can hate Jones all you want but I want the Giants to win and he is their QB.

That Arizona Game is one of the things that really made me crazy last season in retrospect. The Giants/Jones sleepwalked through the first half and then exploded in the second half. Is it the game plan? I don't understand why they can't get on the field and start playing. That game was a should have won before it started, yet it became an unlikely artificial come back game.
Then Jones looks like a deer in the xenon headlights there after. I am so tired of clenching myself through this sleepwalking act.
I have a hard time seeing it come together though.

What happened in the second half vs. Arizona? That's my question. IIRC, he was lights out. Where's THAT DJ?

This is what worries me. He appeared so bloodless against the 49ers and Seahawks. Really can't have that if you're taking up all that cap space.

Exactly my take.
Lets hope he aint punch drunk.
Jones was going to be the QB next year.
You can bemoan the fact that Jones is the QB or you hope that the team will improve so that even middling QB play can get them to the playoffs.
Look, he's likely the starter in September, he'll have a revamped OL, and real weapons at WR. There are no more excuses. Zero. I don't want to hear form you guys this time next year about how he was let down by his OL and/or WR's. By the same token, if he somehow shows that he's a legitimate NFL starter, I'll support keeping him there moving forward.
The Giants won 10 games and had a tie in 2022.
They won a playoff game that is a successful season and I would sign up for that this coming year.
I am less inclined to look at stats and more result-oriented.
I believe in what Schoen is doing he has a plan and I believe that the team will respond.

The goal isn't getting to the playoffs, the goal is to win the SB. Jones has shown he can take us to the playoffs (albeit barely), but is that enough? Are we happy with a WC win only to get our asses kicked in the next round? You may be, but I'm not.
The low bar some set here for Jones is beyond comical. Just get us to the playoffs St Danny, even if it's with an 8-win record! We'll love you forever! How pathetic.

They had 10 wins? You may want to check your sources.
As I said, I assumed you meant 2022, but given that you thought we had 10 wins that year, I don't know what to think.
Making it to the playoffs is a step in the right direction.
You do not go from the worst to the best in one year.

Wins are a team stat, not a QB stat. Evaluate players for how they play.
So I guess that you will be rooting against him next year.
You will be applauding every errant throw and rooting for his demise.
I had a good year on a terrible team which was unfulfilling.
I was on the second team and rarely played on a team that went to a bowl game and was ecstatic.
Players only care about wins and losses

First of all, its 331, and no, I will never root against a Giant. I hope that after 6 years, Daniel has figured everything out and becomes a good NFL starter, I just think the odds are long at this point.
The better question would be, would you support Drew Lock is he was names starter?
Making it to the playoffs is a step in the right direction.
You do not go from the worst to the best in one year.
That's fair, but you're the one who said that they should build a team good enough that middling QB play can get them to the playoffs. In that scenario, would you still insist on Jones being the QB if he was merely middling on an otherwise good team?
I hate to break it to you, but teams with middling QB's generally don't make the SB, let alone win it.
If we give Jones a lifetime term at QB, we will make the playoffs again at some point. There will be some years where the bounces go our way, other teams get injured etc. That is not success. In fact that is almost the minimum possible achievement just for being an NFL franchise. We should want more.

I do know that. And when deciding whether or not to proceed with certain players, it's important to figure out their value as it relates to wins and losses.
Stats are an excellent way to do that. You win as an offense by scoring points.
The Steelers won 10 games last year with Pickett/Trubisky/Rudolph at QB. Are any of those guys worth $40 million?
Then we should have given lifetime contracts to everyone on the team, not just the QB
What a complete failure this franchise has become.
Pretty hilarious
There are also dopes like you that don't even understand how devastating it was to lose Andrew Thomas and replace him with Josh Ezeudu last year in the toughest part of the schedule. Not to mention how underprepared for the season the whole friggen team was.

Can we stop with this false, tired narrative that “Jones led them to the playoffs and won a game”.
He played against a crap Minnesota team and they won by 7. Then he got his ass exposed, once again, playing a completely superior team the next week.
You want to watch the Giants win? Guess what, so do all Giants fans. But its not going to be with the punchbowl full of turds that is the Giants QB room now.
My point is that this is a process. I am not saying Jones is the answer. The Giants will find their QB.
But in the interim, they need to win to create the foundation for a Super Bowl team. Jones can do that, and if he does he will have some trade value.
I am hoping that the Giants can get Zak next year. But he only makes sense if the team is a QB away from becoming great.

And then there are dopes such as yourself who refuse to believe what their eyes are telling them. Pollyanna’s wearing rose colored glasses. Nothing is ever Jones’ fault. Always something else.

I would have been fine with Giants drafting a QB, so you are wrong. Maybe I should cry about it in every other post like you babies.
And Piss off dickhead.

I agree with you there. If they had a chance at a QB they liked, then they should have gone for it, but since that didn't work out, build out the rest of the team into something more competitive.
You can dismiss Jones's contributions to that team.
You can denigrate him.
That is your prerogative.
But it doesn't change the fact that the underdog Giants scored 31 points and won a playoff game against the Vikings, in Minnesota.
And winning a playoff game is a bigger deal.
The Giants have not been good enough to make the playoffs in past years, so that shows improvement.
Since you discount the value of winning I guess you are looking forward to a five-win season. Good luck with that.
I would rather support the process and hope that the team wins with or without Jones.
If Locke gives them the best chance of winning I am all for it.
I would embrace that opportunity.
Sports are a true meritocracy and there should be no free ride.
The best players should play.
I am a Giants fan. I have seen Super Bowls. I want a team that can consistently play in and win big games against good teams. When we are not that good, I want the team to have a plan and be on a path to get that good.
Squeaking into the playoffs occasionally and being uncompetitive against good teams does nothing for me, unless it's on the path to being really good. Just by showing up, every team can achieve that.
The Giants response to the Mirage of 2022 was massively destructive to the franchise if your goal is to be consistently competitive at a high level.
If the Giants do not make it to the playoffs this year then 2022 was fool's gold.
However, if they make it to the playoffs again, which would be twice in three years, then there is something there.
And hope for the future.
The Steelers have made the playoffs 2 out of 3 years with negative point differentials. Those fans have seen Super Bowls. I'd imagine they are not super fired up about their direction.
The Saints have had a similar records to the Steelers but narrowly missed the playoffs each of the last 3 years.
If we are a low octane offense, uncompetitive against good teams and scrape into the playoffs with 9 wins by winning close games against bad teams, its not a sign of progress. It's just being a mediocre team that catches some breaks. Being the Saints or the Steelers is not appealing
If winning and making the postseason is unappealing what would you want this year?
1) he will be fine w/ good protection
unless
2) he is mentally shot as a QB from years of abuse (ala David Carr)
Or maybe he's just not a good quarterback?
"years of abuse"...oh man.
If winning and making the postseason is unappealing what would you want this year?
It's not novel but it boils down to QB. To be a consistent contender you need a good QB. Or (this approach is more difficult) an adequate QB that makes no money so you can build a mega-team around him.
There were QBs to be had. Will they all be good? Probably not. Will 1 or 2? Probably yes. It's worth the chance.
Alternatively I would have been fine if we traded our draft capital into 25, acknowledging that we will need it then.
I am patient. If there is a plan in place, I support the plan. The Rangers did an intentional rebuild a few years back. It was well-timed, well-communicated, and well-executed. Easy to support.
What I see and hear from the Giants is short-termism. This has been the case for a long time and continues to be. It is not likely to yield good results and it is immensely frustrating
1) he will be fine w/ good protection
unless
2) he is mentally shot as a QB from years of abuse (ala David Carr)
This is 100% my thoughts
Herbert’s still looking for playoff win #1. Dak only has 2. Eli’s only won playoff games in two seasons.
If DJ plays well and we make the playoffs then we will probably pony up the $30M + incentives and run it back with him in ‘25. That should be a good thing. That should be what we root for because that means that our coaching staff is solid (which is hugely important). It also gives us an additional draft to find a QB on a rookie contract
Based upon the present circumstances that the Giants did not draft their future QB, what would make this season a success?
If winning is not the standard for improvement what is?

The whole Carr argument relies on the presumption that Carr was derailed by a lousy offensive line.
Maybe he would have stunk either way.

Oh - I did misunderstand. Honestly, I think the season is shaping up to be just a nothing, pointless season where we are drifting to nowhere. Maybe we win 6, maybe 9, doesn't really matter. If we win >11 or < 5 then it is interesting. If we are bad we will be set up for a QB. If we are actually good I will have to reassess my priorities.
Given that we are likely to be in the 6-9 range, I would at least like to see some kind of identity emerge. It's still very unclear what kind of team we are trying to be. The last 2 years, our path to victory was to win the turnover battle against bad/average teams. That approach does not scale.
What do we do well? I really don't know. What are we trying to do well? I don't know. Pass rush might be decent this year? Now we have a good WR to pair with a QB who is scared to throw anything but the simplest pass routes?
I'm fine with some of our personnel moves, but its just real hard to see how the picture comes together into c9nsistent advantages that drive winning.
