A lot of talk about the asshat reports here. Lombardi is saying NYG offered a 2025 first for Maye, but the issue was NE felt dropping to 6 was too risky to hope JJM was there. Obviously it would have worked for them, but that was the sticking point.
Lombardi said NYG was all in on Maye and did not like McCarthy. Linked below. Discussion starts at 23:00 mark.

You can't trade a player until they're under contract once drafted.

that would jive with what we were being told.

?
i dont believe ne was willing to move off him to jjm just to pick up picks, even if they were good picks.
sean payton had nix ahead of jjm and chose not to move ahead of MIN for what probably would have only cost a 3rd round pick.
the nyg and min (oconnell, pretty good coach) had jjm seemingly a full tier below maye.
atlanta chose penix over jjm.
i was/am a JJM fan. belichek seemed most complimentary of him vs all the qbs including maye/daniels. but it doesn't seem that was a widely agreed with view.
Why is it bullshit that they like more than 1 QB?

He meant to respons to S&S's post.
The Giants are run terribly these days.
so what- that is what we wanted, them to identify the QB they wanted. You are mad that it wasn't Penix or any QB basically.. I wanted Maye and am glad they tried but disappointed how it worked out. You can't blame them for liking a prospect instead of just a position.

did they have several meetings with him and were in touch with him all the time?

Why did they do their due diligence? Is that really the question? Also if Nabers went 5th to LAC... who do we pick? I am not sure if it was Rome next in line. I heard trade down and if that was the case JJM might have been in that mix.
Is this a serious question?
Hope this helps some of the posters who are worried that the Giants still love Jones and didn't try to get a new QB.
He and Rich Eisen were basically crying on the latter's show the day before the draft when describing meeting and talking with all the people in the NYG Front Office. He was like already part of the family it seemed.

That is logical. However I can’t believe they couldn’t get a deal done with LA for 5. In the end, they probably said “screw this hassle”.
Why would they scout someone they didn't like?
How would they know if they liked him without scouting him?
1. CHI QB Caleb ☑️
2. WASH QB Jayden ☑️
3. NE plan:
-HIGHLY LIKELY the Pats stick and pick Maye.
-Would only move back if A. They get a HAUL to move back and B. They have a 2nd trade in place with AZ at 4 or LAC at 5 to move back up for JJ McCarthy. *And remember, Ossenfort spent 15 years in NE, so there’s a relationship there.
4 AZ plan:
-Stay at 4 and take MHJ.
-Trade back to 6 with NYG or NE (* see 👆 ) and still take MHJ.
5 LAC plan:
-Stay at 5 and take OT Alt (or I’m hearing maybe Latham over Alt?).
-Move back to 11 and take OT Latham.
6 NYG plan:
-Plan A: Want to move up to 3 for Maye. Don’t think NE will agree to move, but that’s what I hear NYG wants most.

So you have an issue with doing your due diligence and trying to actually create some misdirected interest to gain an upper hand? This is exactly what people crucified Gettelman for not doing.
Puzzling.
They changed the rules... you can't do that Eli/Rivers draft and trade anymore.

[sigh] he is in a better place
I’m liking WR1b very well.
Puzzling.

Sad but true, some decent weapons in Minn.
That's if they let JJ throw more than 8 times per game :-)

Actually, JJM said at the combine when interviewed live that he wanted to go to the Vikings. I bet they are thrilled. It's the best spot to go out of all the QB landing teams.

If JJM was remotely close, then they would have taken him. I doubt he was one of the 15 they had with 1st rd grades tbh. And this is coming from someone who really believed in JJM as a prospect.

where if McCarthy falls to 6 Giants draft him and then they make the trade? Kinda like 2004 Eli/Rivers

Which seems ridiculous in my opinion.

Once again, you can't do this anymore. I think this is going to backfire on NE, Maye isn't going to be elite. He's going to struggle with pressure worse in the NFL than in college. JJM will be good in Minnesota. They will regret this. At least we won't regret Nabers even if JJM is good in Minnesota, I don't see Nabers busting in any way shape or form.

That was before he had the greatest pro-day ever for a QB and became a household name. And did that fun Easter Egg hunt with our front office personnel.
Puzzling.
As stated, this is not allowed anymore.
Again, that's no longer allowed in the NFL.

Yup.

Lol, I love the humor. JJM definitely landed in the best spot possible and he's close to home too. His camp is certainly thrilled. NE and NYG were the worst possible spots for QBs to land.

Ok I stand corrected if that’s the case.
It’s a funny rule if true. Why ban it?
