like a keeper in that highlight film...but I know it is highlights. Seeing this stuff on tape though does make it feel like his highs seem not dissimilar from Sy's write up that you squint and see Matthew Stafford in there. But I dont watch a ton of football beyond the giants and havent seen his obvious lows and inaccuracies and poor mechanics. Worth a flier for $5M for sure. Let him compete with DJ when they are both healthy and may the best man win
He does seem comfortable throwing downfield and throwing guys open. 2 things we hear alot about that Jones doesnt do
Always thought if they decide the DJ injury clause is prohibitive, and they can't get a decent QB in the draft, Locke would become some kind of half-assed version of Danny Kanell back in the late 90's. A decent bridge that won around half of his starts - he was a 5th rounder (I think)? This guy was a 1st rounder - let's see what he can do . . .
Such a great comparison by Sy. Lock's playing style reminds me a lot of Jay Cutler. He's fearless throwing it downfield but at times can get careless.
It is interesting - fundamentally he is the opposite of DJ. Not scared to pull the trigger. He'll have Hyatt and Nabers to throw at - will be fun to watch that connect.
Although I here are some comparisons I found interesting...
Jones:
Sacked once every 6.8 career pass attempts
Passing TD once every 19.7 career pass attempts
INT or Fumble once every 14.2 career pass attempts
vs
Lock:
Sacked once every 12.0 career pass attempts
Passing TD once every 16.7 career pass attempts
INT or Fumble once every 13.0 career pass attempts
Hard to do a proper comparison without factoring in their respective teams they played for. Although on average, looks like Lock takes less sacks (O-Line a factor), throws for a TD more often per pass attempts but also throws an INT more often per pass attempt.
Also of interest, both Jones (2019) and Lock (2020) had their best seasons under Pat Shurmur.
I might be nuts....but I think Daboll can help Lock
But I think he comes in and wins the job behind a better line. He can make throws that DJ only dreams of. Keeps jones off the field which is safer for the organization and the injury clause…. Here’s hoping anyway.
This looked more like a highlight tape for those two receivers than it did for Lock. The only time Jones had targets like that were the rare instances when Shepard was healthy.
Lock entering his prime. Tyron is past it. I think Lock would benefit from Daboll and if it comes to it, we’ll get better play than we had down stretch last year.
I agree I think Lock has upside where Tyrod did not. I'd have to think Lock starts the season with DJ not ready but who knows.
If we took Josh Allen …. Still might have been the best draft move that year…,but I’m 100 percent with jones lock and cutlets… it could be worse…. See the ny jets since Namath
seen film on Lock...good representation. Compact motion and added wrist much the same as A Rogers. Not claiming him to be Rogers only that it allows for side arm to 3/4 throws with quicker release.
He also has a Y/A under 7. He was part of the weak 2019 QB class aside from Murray (and I'm not sold on him either).
I don't get it. If Schoen knew there was a good chance he was going WR, why not just bring back Taylor? He was a bit more expensive and maybe it was the durability, but Taylor is better than Lock.
The only thing I'll say about Lock, he's had nothing but defensive head coaches. Maybe Daboll can squeeze something out of him.
My issue - the QB room is worse than last year. Jones is more broken down and Lock is a downgrade over Taylor.
Does this staff see something in DeVito? Or, is Rattler in play in the 4th? They did have a 30 visit with him.

You're assuming Taylor wanted to come back here. Daboll did bench him for DeVito. He's probably got a better shot with the Jets given the age of their starter.

Danny is on here . . . what does he think?
I agree, but I can’t see Mara agreeing to that. I think that it’s a near lock DJ triggers that guarantee, and Mara would be happy to pay it.
Schoen texted the fucking pick to Jones before it was announced! He's gonna play.

Is this true?

Schoen said it himself at the press conference.
I know. I'm right there with you.
The worst part is seeing the pocket he was working with against the 49ers…we still have a ways to go.

He has the tools.
I also think....the pressure of losing his job....will help Jones.
He started as a turnover machine (more fumbles than INT passes to Engram)
Judge has been beaten into him not to make a mistake
The OL has been a turnstiles
Jones works very hard..pressure might break pipes....but I also think it build character

Of course he did... He needs DJ to keep his head in it until he is replaced. Should he not of?
But maybe BD can unLock Drew
I'm very excited for the puns in this situation however

Perhaps that was text seeking Jones' permission to make the pick.
Has your opinion now changed if you did? I thoguht you did speak of this.

Hahaha I was literally going to post: "My main takeaway from that vid was how much the Giants defense sucked!" LOL

Should he not HAVE?
Doesn’t really matter one way or another.

You think they will play Jones before his knee is healed? Strange.
It will be 10 months in Sept from his surgery… DJ will be ready for the season. It strange at all. Average ACL recovery is 9–12 months
Daniel Jones facing 8-10 months ACL recovery - ( New Window )

If they put him on the field to start the season, risk him getting hurt and having to pay him, they’re even dumber than I could’ve even imagined.
No shit. It’s why this franchise is as fucked as it is now. Complete incompetence for 10 plus years.
Wish I was joking but he did come in for a 30 visit.

If he doesn’t have any setbacks, DJ will be ready for training camp and of course the season.
And, they need to be smart with Jones - allow him to fully recover. Might draw trade interest if teams get QB desperate during the season.

Wouldn’t bet on that
