Marvin Harrison, Rome Odunze … and Malik Nabers above them both
“(Harrison’s) not No. 1 to me,” said a veteran NFL receivers coach, whose team is in the market for another top receiver, and whom we’ll ID as WR Coach 1. “(LSU’s Malik) Nabers is the No. 1 on my list and I think he is on a lot of people’s lists. He’s just different to me. I don’t think it’s anything toward Marvin, it’s just really that Nabers is that good. His skills with the ball in his hands are really different. His acceleration is just different. His explosive is different. He tracks the ball really well. He’s a smaller guy but he can still play outside. He’s rare in a lot of ways. He’s got some Ja’Marr Chase in him, some DJ Moore skills. I hesitate to say this because Tyreek Hill’s speed is just so different from anybody in the league, but Nabers has some of that kind of burst and just so explosive off the line of scrimmage.
“He’s as fast as the person chasing him. He’s gonna run away from whoever. If Deion was chasing him, he’d go 4.21 or whatever. He’s the best WR prospect since Chase and on tape, I think he’s even more impressive. This dude is different.”
Another long-time NFL assistant, who has coached receivers and been an NFL offensive coordinator, agreed that Nabers was the top receiver prospect.
“It’s Nabers and then there’s a gap,” said Offensive Assistant 1. “He is the best wide receiver in the draft in a couple of years, maybe more. He is Tyreek Hill combined with both of those San Francisco guys (Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk). He is so explosive. He has a second gear. He can stop on a dime. He breaks tackles. You can’t jam him because he’s just too quick and if you miss at all, he’s gonna outrun you. He’s really competitive but he can be a pain in the ass. He’ll be the guy who’ll have something to say to the coordinator coming off the field. He’s got that edge to him where he doesn’t know when to let up. He doesn’t know that those guys are on his side.”
Scout 1: “Nabers is so much more explosive. I think he has more upside. I don’t know if I trust him like I trust Marvin. I trust Marvin to be disciplined.”
WR Coach 2: “We have Nabers as No. 1. He’s got all the ability in the world. He’s got Receiver No. 1 written all over him. He does have some stuff he’s got to clean up. Route running, which will come naturally with the right coach and group of receivers. So much upside. He just brings a different presence. His physicality. You see that on tape. He’s got that dawg in him.”
we need is a run on WRs before our pick.
I have a feeling, if they want a CB, they may have to trade up to get a top 3 2nd rounder because if the #1 and 2 CB are picked back to back, the run will start.
to see Rattler be the pick. I want nothing to do with him. Last year was amazing to get JMS and then Hyatt when they were both being talked about as possible 1st round picks was great. This year to get some solid players is going to be nice. Tomorrow though I want a QB like Milton or Pratt at some point. Just give me a different QB in the room that can do different things.

They had a top 30 visit with Rattler, but I would be stunned if they pick him tonight.
Through his first 2 drafts, Schoen has been better than Gettleman
I lived in the DC area during his entire career. Phenomenal player. Taken in 1983, the same draft as Elway and Marino, and was mentioned at the end of that "30 for 30."
still stings me a bit. They could draft a starter here at the top of round 2, but instead they traded that player away to have the privilege to sign Burns to a huge deal.
It’s still odd to me when you consider it’s a team with no QB and a lot of holes. We’ll see how it plays out.

That sting will go away when you watch Burns pressure QBs.

Not one player here has a chance most likely to be as good as Burns

The #Colts tried to trade up No. 15 all the way to the #Giants' pick at No. 6 in last night's 1st round, sources tell
@NYDNSports
.
Sources also say the Giants included their 2025 1st-round pick & this year's 2nd-rounder in an offer for No. 3 overall that the #Patriots turned down.
That and more in my story on Malik Nabers, the new face of this evolving franchise and how he may unlock a new identity on offense
to make his mock? He was talking to GMs and trying to read the tea leaves to figure out what teams were thinking.
Anyway, he was adamant the Rams were going to take an offensive player with their first pick. Said McVay texted him joking about the pick, but this guy was sure the Rams would go offense.
So far, in two picks, the Rams have gone defense.
I have a ton of respect for reporters, but even the best mock draft is worthless.
a few picked already, think i still like the 2 UM guys over this list.

You can get safeties so much later... this is the first Safety off the board and there are a lot of good ones into the 4th/5th. Just don't like the position here.

He is regarded as one of the top Safeties, but that isn't saying much. Safeties start late 2nd until the 5th round. There isn't a wow I need him type in this draft. Personally I prefer DTD

The benefit is your pick of the entire litter.
That is true and a lot of people had him as the top guy. It would of been like taking Cooper except safety is more of a need than LB
Fifth year senior. Three-year starter. All-Big. Ten three straight years, first team in 2023 in addition to second team All-American honors. Nubin is one of the most experienced defensive backs in the class and one that contributed on special teams all five seasons. He led the Gophers on special teams tackles in both 2020 and 2023, a taste of his usage and impact along multiple mediums on a roster. At safety, Nubin improved his tackling year after year. He is both physical and technically sound, smart and aggressive. The ideal combination of traits as the final line of defense will be there for the team that brings him in. While his movement traits are good enough, there are issues with him playing a deep coverage role that needs to reach the sideline against vertical speed. His downhill bias has put him in bad spots and that fluidity to turn and catch up is not there. While some of those issues can be hidden with his excellent and consistent instincts and intelligence, he will not be the guy that can carry a secondary. Instead, he will be the reliable underneath and intermediate defender that can direct traffic and make plays on the ball when the opportunities are there. His 13 career interceptions set a program record and are top five all time in Big Ten history among safeties.
*Nubin is a guy you will like on tape 90% of the time but then you occasionally see something that worries you. He has the look, he has the footwork, and the dude made plays every year. 1 interception in 2020, 3 in 2021, 4 in 2022, 5 in 2023. All these boxes get checked left and right but the athletic profile for a guy that needs to play with a lot of range is questionable. He is a borderline first rounder for me but the elite special teams performance over his career could easily break the tie between him and someone else. High floor, limited ceiling.
with our pick. Last position of need and seems like they could've moved up 3 or 4 spots to get the best Center or one of the better Cbs or the best RB.
1) CB Ennis Rakestraw Jr. - Missouri
2) LB Payton Wilson - NC State - durability concerns
3) IOL Jackson Powers-Johnson - Oregon
4) CB TJ Tampa - Iowa State
5) RB Trey Benson - Florida State
6) TE JT Sanders - Texas
7) G Christian Haynes - UConn
8) G Cooper Beebe - Kansas State
9) IOL Zach Frazier - West Virginia
10) CB Kris Abrams-Draine - Missouri
Please explain. In other words, why the fuck would you think that drafting a safety is evidence that they surely wanted a RB and were therefore “one upped”? I cannot wait to see what draws you to this conclusion…

We need a RB and were traded right in front of by Carolina to take him. Brooks has been rumored to the Giants for a while now.

One of these, please!
Haynes or Tampa from that list. But I think it will be Benson if he somehow lasts that long. If all three are gone, they should consider trading down.
Which makes the positional choice kind of frustrating, but Nubian is a good player. Hope that there is a decent DT available at 70. We desperately need one.

There’s been a million trades this round. Why is it just the Giants fans that have big conspiracy theories when a trade happens in front of them?. The Giants got the pick in almost immediately. Seems strange for a team caught with their pants down, no?

has nothing to do with Belton. He was simply the best player at his position, which happened to be one of need for the Giants. A good example of value meeting need. Nice work Joe.

Last position of need? Our safeties are currently Jason Pinnock, Dane Belton, Jalen Mills, and Gervarrius Owens.

What a waste of a draft pick. I supported the trade, especially since we were desperate for receiving targets, but it was obviously a bad idea. He also had an injury history before he came here.

Only think I will say... I would have liked them to get a WR for their new QB. They got Sinnott, but if they don't get a Corley or Roman Wilson it won't be as good of a draft.
On Rattler, I lose all respect for Shoen and Daboll. Nothing impresses me in the least about this kid. We had our chance at a QB, lets move on and use our remaining picks to fill the other needs.
RE: RE: RE: RE: payton wilson still there interesting too
I can't stand Rattler, but in a demented way I hope we do select him because Terps used to be a big fan. And he would be dealing hard to have Rattler replace Jones ASAP.

Every thread though... Man you are gluten for punishment.
And take a slow safety. So let's come back with Wright to get some top speed at RB.
I love Wright, but I will say Corum reminds me of Singletary. I can see us going there. Strong running between the tackles, good hands, and finds little extra room for max yards.
OT Roger Rosengarten to Balt... Very under rated for some reason. Nice pick
I just assume that all of Baltimore's picks are nice picks.
Best drafting team in the NFL. Gonna be interesting to see how they do this year with Joe Hortiz no longer being with them since he joined the Chargers.
I like him. He's agile with excellent bend, but is a tweener with limited size. Rush OLB only in the NFL, and even then might be overwhelmed by OL at this level.
I don't really like this pick... He was not great last year. Gave up over 100 passer rating allow 3 TDs and no picks... in fact no picks ever. Just don't think he is that good.

Picks dont tell me how good a corner is. Mark Collins from the Giants rarely got INTs.. yet one of the best cover corners of that era.. Jerry Rice said he was the toughest corner he played againt
We're picking guys who play positions where we don't have an obvious starter.
It won't happen on week one, but by mid-season we'll have rookies on the field a lot of the time. They'll make mistakes and it'll be frustrating, but by 2025 they'll be better and the roster will look stronger.
This is a decent draft for us so far.
Phillips was a solid pick and was a notable mention

Do you remember the poster who said Carson Strong of Nevada would be the best QB in the 2021 draft?
Well, I'm going out on the same limb and saying Ellis will be the best Edge player in this draft... ;)

Collins never went a year without an INT and had 6 one year. He was also good at PD while Phillips had 5 all year on over 700 defensive snaps. only 5 the year before. Picks aren't everything, but he isn't even getting his hands on the ball.

Over Latu? He is the best pass rusher in the draft!! I think Kamara is a sit pass rusher and will get like 8 sacks a year, but I am not sold on any pass rusher outside of Latu as being a star so maybe you are right!
in the slot it's a big upgrade. Cannot have a slot corner who is a complete liability in run support like Flott. This guy clearly can play the run. Exactly what we need at slot right now.
with the free agent signings and the new OL coach fixing Evan Neal. One of the worst OL seasons in league history and they don't draft a single OL first two days
Great value in 3rd round
Like his nasty aggressive nature.
I like both their picks. Given Martin is likely done in a year, adding Guyton and Beebe to Smith is a solid young trio to cohesively play together for a few years.
They're beginning to rival the Ravens for how well they draft. Schoen has meanwhile drafted Neal, Schmitz, Ezeudu, and McKethan. I give a pass to Schmitz, but the others have completely underwhelmed. He also signed Glowinski who is also in that category.

Interesting nugget from Joe Schoen: when asked if he thought buddy Dan Morgan believed #NYGiants might be taking a RB when he moved up ahead of them, Schoen said he didn't think so. Why? Morgan had called the Giants to move up to 47, too.

That is good to know... does that mean he was going to go RB?
that is going to be a "how did he fall that far" pick. wilson was good on scramble drills with JJM. didnt drop any passes. big speed just like lockett.

I will double down on that. I love him... He had the same issues as JJM. They got a big lead with a strong DEF and they just ran the ball in the second half. You put him on LSU or Ohio State and he has a monster year.

yep. big plays when it mattered and still had something like 12 tds. great catch% very few drops. very lockett-y.
interest in trading up, although it can't be ruled out because Schoen said he might not be done tonight. But we should really think about trading down tomorrow. Picks are now almost completely fungible and this team has a ton of needs. One or two more tomorrow would help improve our depth. Schoen has also done a good job of finding contributors on day three, including Belton, Bellinger, and McFadden.

Yeah it’s been said this is a bad Day 3 with how the NIL is influencing these later guys to stay. That will eventually correct down the road but don’t have a problem moving up for a guy if it starts to thin out at a position they like in this draft.

Don't agree. There are plenty of overlooked players on day three that contribute. Having an extra pick or two gives us the ability to target those players.
That is who I want, BUT... I think I am alone on this, but I wouldn't mind coming up and taking Joe Milton... Size and amazing Arm. He feet are slow, but you can win with him running a set offense for him. Plus with all our speed and the biggest arm in the draft... seems like a fit

That’s what I’d like too. Jenkins, Fiske, Ohoro, Melton. Lassiter, Nubin are some I’d like to see them consider.
That would be awesome... really want one of these DTs Newton, Orhorhoro, Jenkins, Fiske, or Maason Smith.

DJFC had quite an evening.
I would bet a few had Pearl Jam's "Alive" at full blast thinking about Daniel Jones...
They had a top 30 visit with Rattler, but I would be stunned if they pick him tonight.

Don't be jealous because you can't get into the DJFC!

I would bet a few had Pearl Jam's "Alive" at full blast thinking about Daniel Jones...
Hahaha that is the perfect song for them to play

At one point, I think you were firmly ensconced in upper management. No longer.
But I do think they kept your security card active when you decide to return... ;)
Not including WRs or O-Linemen, my top-11 are:
1) DT Johnny Newton - Illinois
2) CB/S Cooper DeJean - Iowa
3) CB Kool-Aid McKinstry - Alabama
4) CB Ennis Rakestraw Jr. - Missouri
5) DT Kris Jenkins Jr. - Michigan
6) LB Edgerrin Cooper - Texas A&M
7) DT Braden Fiske - Florida State
8) DT Ruke O - Clemson
9) LB Payton Wilson - NC State
10) CB Max Melton - Rutgers
11) Nickel CB Mikey Sainristil - Michigan
Should be a run of wr and ol
I think they go with Keon Coleman
There are some character concerns there so if they pass that is why.
Agreed, but I could see us going RB as well. I think we see two of CB, S, IDL or RB tonight.
I think if NE and Washington don't go OL and WR they are hurting their new QBs. That can only help us if they do.
+1.

Well they need help everywhere except for QB. They need WR, OL, TE, DL, Edge, CB, LB.

I lived in the DC area during his entire career. Phenomenal player. Taken in 1983, the same draft as Elway and Marino, and was mentioned at the end of that "30 for 30."
To play corner for 20 years in the NFL - and at his level - is one of the more underrated accomplishments in NFL history.
They had a bunch I respected: Art Monk, Rickey Sanders, Gary Clark, Monte Coleman, Charles Mann, the Hogs, Byner, Jumpy Geather, Wilber Marshall, etc.

MadPlaid, the legend…
"The Giants want all these good players, with a ton of talent. We should steal their board!"
Why.
The benefit is your pick of the entire litter.
He is regarded as one of the top Safeties, but that isn't saying much. Safeties start late 2nd until the 5th round. There isn't a wow I need him type in this draft. Personally I prefer DTD
Why.
They're not using your draft board
Quote:
You can get safeties so much later... this is the first Safety off the board and there are a lot of good ones into the 4th/5th. Just don't like the position here.

That is true and a lot of people had him as the top guy. It would of been like taking Cooper except safety is more of a need than LB
Why.
Yet, you're sitting on the couch and not in an NFL draft room right now....
Single.
Draft…
Grade: 81
Not going to happen BUT?

Only think I will say... I would have liked them to get a WR for their new QB. They got Sinnott, but if they don't get a Corley or Roman Wilson it won't be as good of a draft.

I picked him for the Dolphins in the 2nd round of the BBI Mock Draft. Injuries are a damned shame for him.
Listen to what Sy said about him - he didn’t find him impressive in the slightest.

I'm not campaigning, really. Just pointing out what you and others know - this guy is a football player.
But with a huge asterisk.
Yup.
2) RB Trey Benson - Florida State
3) TE JT Sanders - Texas
4) CB TJ Tampa - Iowa State
5) G Christian Haynes - UConn
6) G Cooper Beebe - Kansas State
7) LB Junior Colson - Michigan
8) RB Jaylen Wright - Tennessee
9) CB Kris Abrams-Draine - Missouri
If we go strictly by need, we could do a hell of a lot worse than Benson and Sanders. They can be Day One starters.
Some concern down there now going forward about Ronnie Stanley’s durability. That’s a good pick.
I just assume that all of Baltimore's picks are nice picks.
Nubin runs in the range that safeties usually run... 4.55 to 4.6.
Suamatia is still interesting for us in Round 3
I love Wright, but I will say Corum reminds me of Singletary. I can see us going there. Strong running between the tackles, good hands, and finds little extra room for max yards.
They did get faster. He replaces McKinney and he is faster than McKinney.
Rosengarten, Ellis, or Wright.
Quote:
OT Roger Rosengarten to Balt... Very under rated for some reason. Nice pick

I don't see how he gets by KC

Best drafting team in the NFL. Gonna be interesting to see how they do this year with Joe Hortiz no longer being with them since he joined the Chargers.
Holy Crap I forgot about Fraklin... Screw it I would draft him.
Seems like there’s not a lot of time for teams to find out if someone’s going to trade for the pick and take their guy.

Rice, Wilson, Corley?
Excellent pick by the 9ers.
I would have been happy with Green at #70. Nice pick by the 49ers.

Edge Bralen Trice would be a nice add, but bigger needs?
Some OL Patrick Paul & Kiran Amegadji
A BUNCH of good CB all relatively similar, so tough to call which GIants would like here. I'd rather slide down a few picks if CB is the pick here...
ILB Payton Wilson - NC State

Well, he hasn't played a down - or even made the team yet.
Secondary improved tonight..
Giants will have a respectable run D in 2024.
That would make me ill.
Agreed. Think there were much better players available. Not excited about this pick.
They picked Phillips
Yeah not fond of this pick. smh.
Thought they would go Wilson who has been compared to one of their greats
Picks dont tell me how good a corner is. Mark Collins from the Giants rarely got INTs.. yet one of the best cover corners of that era.. Jerry Rice said he was the toughest corner he played againt
It won't happen on week one, but by mid-season we'll have rookies on the field a lot of the time. They'll make mistakes and it'll be frustrating, but by 2025 they'll be better and the roster will look stronger.
This is a decent draft for us so far.

Well, I'm going out on the same limb and saying Ellis will be the best Edge player in this draft... ;)
Quote:
I don't really like this pick... He was not great last year. Gave up over 100 passer rating allow 3 TDs and no picks... in fact no picks ever. Just don't think he is that good.

I can't believe Troy Franklin is still there! If we didn't get Nabers obviously Franklin at 70 would have been incredible.
Jalen Wright, Bucky Irving, Marshawn Lloyd, jatavion sanders..some good options out there still. I'd honestly trade back into rd 3 from 107
And that’s why the cowboys destroy the giants year after year.
Like his nasty aggressive nature.

Davis is a good call. He plays like he's 240.

Like his nasty aggressive nature.
Will McClay - the problem solver...
Something will come out... Medicals or drug or character or just not what people want I guess.
Another mistake... ;)

interest in trading up, although it can't be ruled out because Schoen said he might not be done tonight. But we should really think about trading down tomorrow. Picks are now almost completely fungible and this team has a ton of needs. One or two more tomorrow would help improve our depth. Schoen has also done a good job of finding contributors on day three, including Belton, Bellinger, and McFadden.

Don't agree. There are plenty of overlooked players on day three that contribute. Having an extra pick or two gives us the ability to target those players.
The announcer is scarring the piss out of me with these almost Jaylen Wright announcements...
