They again pick a guy in the second round who wasn't on my board. Stupid name, slow as hell and they won't resign him. Why bother. Has Mara all over it
He had meniscus surgery right before the draft process and didn’t have time to train like some other guys do. Every scouting report you’ll read on him mentions he’s a good athlete.

47) NYG: Tyler Nubin - S/Minnesota
Thick-framed playmaker (13 career INT set a program record) is most effective playing downhill. Nice slide-in for the McKinney loss in free agency. Average speed in deep coverage can be somewhat hidden by his instincts and feel. Also an absolute monster on special teams.
this season becomes a non rebuilding season with the direction they went at QB....
he needs to attack CB/DT/Edge pass rusher depth in FA after the draft.
last year schoen rested after the draft and wasnt active when there was clear holes and depth that was crying out for signings especially OL depth. he must not make the same mistake in 2024.
their goal must be to get to 9 wins and a chance to make the playoffs.
He could be a Mckinney clone though. They seem very similar and I know bowen highly values safety in his d.
Sainristil is probably limited to slot CB so it can be argued that the Giants focused on a more premium position Some of the others are about 20 places lower than Nubin on ESPN's best available board. Benson being a rb is interesting but looks to be limited to a role player slot in his first year versus a starting safety safety.
says giants making 2 good picks so far is inconsistent with their typical strategy of making picks he didnt like years ago.
Odd, he ripped the Giants over the Nabers pick really hard with Eisen earlier today
yeah i was kidding - i think he was actually positive about nabers in the broadcast then ripped their decision making to eisen, but honestly his argument was hard to track because he didnt explicitly say they should have taken JJM.
from the Athletic: Maybe the most underrated player in the draft
Maybe the most underrated player in the draft, Tyler Nubin was both a solid coverage safety and a tremendous tackler at Minnesota. He will step in immediately for Xavier McKinney and thrive. With 43 starts, Nubin was experienced and highly respected. He finished his career with a school-record 13 interceptions and 24 passes defended along with 207 tackles. Nubin is a day-one starter.

he was arguing for direction not players.
he thinsk nabers/nubin are good players. but the giants continue to not move off DJ making tehir team suspect.
the #1 player at his position in the middle of round two.
at one of the few open positions on the roster.
my first reaction when madplaid picked him was negative, but the more i looked at it the more it made sense (and at the time i didnt know he had surgery before testing) - especially once his name hit the visit list.
Yep. P-J picked early was a little bit of a kick in the left one, then the CB run without signs of a trade up was like one in the right one.
Then the Nubin was a disappointment initially, but I got the need move .
Pick Grade:Elite
PFF’s top-ranked safety prospect, Nubin is versatile and impactful. He can be moved all over the secondary and handle the role, as he possesses a high-level football IQ and can stop the run with instincts to cover on the back end. Nubin sported a career-best 90.1 coverage grade in 2023 (first among Power Five safeties) and allowed a 33.0 passer rating in coverage from 2021 to 2023.
the #1 player at his position in the middle of round two.
hes a solid pick.... agree.
but the one slight is, when you are "rebuilding" team like we are, take premium player. CB DL (pass rusher types DT/ER) WR OT.
i think for day 1/2 picks you need to go premium. Not S/RB/FB/ off ballLB/TE/ST/run stuffers etc.
but once the giants went with nabers and not a QB, you have to win in 2024, this pick makes more sense.
Rebuilding ball clubs should not draft for position but for value. They took the #1 safety in the draft, not the 10th corner.
agree you should be going BPA at premium positions on day 1/2.
we need help at all positons so take CB, take DT/ER, take OL, take WR and trade slayton etc etc.
We have Isaiah Simmons....more athlete, than football player...and with Nubin, more football player than athlete....they are going to do a scientific merge
At safety with him and Belton,(stay healthy please) It’s a big change. McKinney, as good as he was at what he did always seemed more comfortable playing downhill. peppers was the same way.
Using the above, Nubin was the 34th best player in the draft and Giants got him in a need position at #47.
The DTs and CBs went quickly. The other option was to likely give up the 4th rounder or even the 3rd rounder to move up. Nubin is nice value by staying put.
Right now the Giants still have their 3rd rounder and 4th rounder to address DT or CB on defense and TE or RB on offense.
Filling needs with quality. Some had this kid as a 1st rounder. Once you get out of the top 15, positional value goes out the window and you go for quality. This is a playmaker in the secondary. As much as I liked McKinney he didn’t make a lot of big plays.
2 plus starters so far. Can we make it 3?
RE: My only problem with this pick is that he's kind of slow for a db.
Circle Circle Dot Dot dang u got that moron shot.
Geddafookouttaheaaa.
I didn't know his RAS score until Eric posted it. It definitely surprised me.
Of course, if the score was really high, do you think people would be posting it to further justify the pick?
This is what you think after they just drafted the top rated safety at pick 47?

Is this sarcasm ? Your board ? Who the f are you?
It was sarcasm.

saying his RAS was bad - when McKinney was listed with him and they were almost identical and Nubin was a bit faster and bigger.

Looks like RAS really affected by only 10 reps on the bench.

Quality pick - easy fill-in for McKinney and maybe a better player

I didn't know who he was before he ripped Nabers. Now I know who he is. If there are many like me then he achieved his goal.

thats why i thought pass rushing DT was going to be the pick if you are going to rely on your front four.
Have you not been paying attention to the last 10 years?
I’m. OT the only one who thought that! 😂
that's lofty. hamilton is a freak who went top 15 for good reason. ill take comparable to mckinney.

not running Wink's defense anymore. It's going to be two-deep, split safety packages. Lot of nickel and dime. Lot of three safeties.

You're not paying attention. Did you see how many DTs went off the board in round two before us?

That's Bowen.
I would have been happy with the #1 RB or the #1 safety. We really need to start winning.
^This. He's also a great prospect. Glad we got him.

Draft rankings for Nubin:
#52 ESPN
