Post draft, it wouldn’t surprise me to see a vet FA (either in the next few weeks or after cuts) added to these positions for stability and to mentor the younger players:
i would like DT pass rusher type, edge rusher/OLD vet and 2nd CB Vet.
i would attack those 3 position fast in the veteran FA market.
i think theres a solid plan for every OL backup position including RT/RG/C/LG...
i dont know who the swing LT is if Thomas goes down, is it Nelson? i guess thats ok, but if theres an veteran swing T on the market upgrade over Nelson id take a look. Nelson also had some injury history and surgery last season.
otherwise the depth is solid enough the rest of the roster.
I would also think if they want to bring a FB in like Jakob Johnson if they are really committed to running the ball.
RE: RE: When is the deadline for the comp pick formula?
I wouldn't be surprised to see us sign someone after that.
the draft its over.
Uuh comp picks are for the following year.
all FA signed after the draft are not counted to comp pick forumlas AFAIK.
but in summary
id attack in priority:
first 3 are a must for me since they will get playing time.
FB only if they are committed to use I formation and run the ball a lot.
We are fed anyway if Thomas goes down. so who cares.
1.2nd CB vet FA
2.ER/OLB vet FA, cant rely on Azeez.
3.DT pass rusher rotation vet player
4.FB (jakob johnson - played under our OL coach in Vegas)
5.Swing T - Unless they are comfotable with Nelson, but im not. had ankle surgery.
the guys in FA I'd have interest in, though im not sure they'd have interest back are:
1. Calais Campbell - had 7 sacks and 42 pressures last year. he's 37 but the guy can still play. put him next to Dex/Phillips in a part time role. he may be hanging it up or ring chasing though.
2. Micah Hyde - the safety room is a little more full now but he'd get a chance to start here. ideally there'd be a corner worth going for, but i think Bowen is going to play a bunch of S and Hyde can play both slot and deep. I think they will end up keep 5 safeties active so they could fit Pinnock (deep) + Nubin (deep) + Hyde (slot + deep) + Mills (slot + corner) + Belton (slot/box).
gilmore is the most interesting CB out there but i doubt they can get him. maybe steven nelson too.
in addition to FA I'd look to the market of players who get their 5yo's declined like simmons last year (or just entering final rookie year like basham). not much at corner (eric stokes? caleb farley?)
id also consider another vet RB like penny, maybe a vet TE too when waller retires.
CB mccloud and holmes are the insurance on phillips, hawkins and flott
you cant have CB2 be a battle between nick mccloud/hawkins/flott, you need some type of vet in here im sorry. if thats their plan they are screwed.
phillips is a run stuffer to compete with davidson/riley, they need a 3 tech pass rusher type, this scheme relies on a front four pressure only, theres snaps to be had.
they dont have a FB. this team needs to run the ball with play action and a short passing game to win games to help their OL and QB. A fb will help.
they dont have any pass rush help after Kavyon/Burns, cant rely on azeez. maybe they think Simmons can play there more, but still wise to bring in vet edge guy. Rememeber last year ravens signed clowney for 2-3m after the draft, theres players out there.
Their backup plan for LT is journeyman Matt Nelson, you can do better. their backup plans for RT/RG/C/LG are much better so far than their backup plan for LT. surprised they thought Nelson was adequate especially coming off ankle surgery he had.
Every other position (RB/TE/QB/ILB/S/Rest of OL) looks like it has a good mix of bodies of both veterans and young players.

ST looks strong as well.
Ha ha ha, geez. Why not sign every freakin player out there

no not every, just 5 more.
we are not talking big money signings. some of these will be vet min players, 2-3m max. not asking a lot.

It's before that. Sometime in early May. It was in early May last year. Shortly after the draft.
If the front office allows the desire for an extra day 3 pick to keep them from signing a vet they want they are idiots
Xavien Howard is also still hanging around out there, although there's definitely some diva personality there.

I also wonder if they wait until after the June 1 cuts to see if anyone decent pops up.
