So far it’s roughly 2/3 happy, 1/3 not. This doesn’t surprise me as there are a decent number of fans who wanted QB or bust in round 1.

The 2/3 side (for the most part) wanted a QB, but understood that the Giants saw a gap between the top 3 guys and the next tier and that the haul of picks needed to move up to take Maye at 3 would potentially break the back of the team for the next several years.

If people are honest and not voting multiple times
at this early point the vast majority are pleased.

The draft is always a crap shoot. The NFL career of college prospect is so hit and miss. But it's damn fun on draft day.

Very happy with Nabers

If he turns into the Ja'Marr Chase/Tyreek Hill-type player they're saying he is, he'd make this draft a success all by himself.

Hoping Nubin is the ball hawk, center field Safety they've never had since I've been watching them in the early 80s.

The most intriguing to me, by far is Theo Johnson.

The rest . . . I hope for the best.

... because the Giants did not fill all needs and immediately become the top SB contender.

Wah.
Overall, a pretty good draft BUT
The Mike : 4/28/2024 6:48 am : link
Schoen is no Howie Roseman. We have a guy who clearly knows football, and a thing or two about job security and towing the company line, but we do not have a guy who is going to transform this organization. Which is what we need.

I give the Giants a "B+" grade on this draft, sensible draft picks, but tone deaf to the fundamental need to reengineer this franchise into a modern NFL championship calibre organization. This draft needed to at least demonstrate at some level that there is acute self-awareness that the DJ contract last year was an abominable decision, and that a pivot away from that mistake would begin right now. To that end, this draft failed.

6. Malik Nabers: (A+) The Giants get arguably the best player in the draft, do not give away the future for a guy who could either be the next Justin Herbert or Mitchell Trubisky, and do not make the compounding mistake of reaching for a quarterback to try to rectify the original sin of the DJ contract. Penix was the choice that may prove to have been the correct one, but his injury history coupled with the immense talent of Nabers made this a no-brainer.

47. Tyler Nubin: (B) Yes this was the top safety in the draft, but this feels similar to JMS last year. A solid player who will likely get a lot of playing time in 2024, but Nubin is no Derwin James, Kyle Hamilton or Kenny Phillips for that matter. This was a bit of bad luck no doubt given the run on CBs so hard to get too upset. Nubin should be a solid add to the team.

70. Andru Phillips: (A-) Great value here for a CB and great response to the earlier run on CBs, but Phillips probably fell because of his size projecting more as a slot corner. But clearly an excellent addition to the team for a third round pick. Overall, with these two picks, the defense seems to be better positioned for the future now than at any point in the last decade.

107. Theo Johnson: (A-) Great pick here. Value meets need given the Waller situation. Could he be the next Bavaro? The fact that we can even ask the question is a positive for this franchise. Lost out on some very high potential running backs here, but this felt like the smart move.

166. Tyrone Tracy: (B+) This is a "roll the dice" low floor / high ceiling prospect. Unfortunately, the distance between these two picks meant that guys like Estime, Shipley, Davis et all would be off the board. But Tracy could be an impact player and for a late fifth round pick, was a sensible risk.

183. Darius Muasau: (F-) Nothing against Muasau and he may be a nice player. But this was the moment to send the message to the world that "we get we have completely fucked up over the last five years with Daniel Jones and acknowledge that his second contract last year was the dumbest action ever taken by any professional sports franchise in world history, and while we weren't able to pivot immediately from our disaster in this draft, the march of a thousand miles to paradise begins now. The DJ Era, ladies and gentleman, is officially over. Right Now!" All Schoen had to do here was draft either Joe Milton or Michael Pratt, and a glimmer of hope would have been restored knowing that the management of this organization really does "get it".

But no pivot here. The message is loud and clear. "The DJ Era is not over." May God have mercy on Giants fans.

I am reminded of the song "In the Year 2525" and the lyrics that conclude the song:

Now it's been ten thousand years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what, he never knew, now man's reign is through
But through eternal night, the twinkling of starlight
So very far away, maybe it's only yesterday

I am very happy about the draft. I know we could not change the quarterback room, but the needs were filled.. I am in the camp that we do not need to address the OlLine right now. Free agency took care of that and the OLine needs to develop. I really wanted a DT, but you cannot fill every hole with just six pics and the talent needs to align with the time you are picking. People will say go trade up. If you do, you take away swing with the bat and more holds to fill.

Your argument here is that drafting a QB in round 7 would have been the thing that would transform this organization and correct the mistake of the DJ contract? Seriously?
Not likely
Rod in St Cloud : 4/28/2024 8:03 am : link
What it would do is assuage the fans looking for hope that we might have a one percent shot at replacing the QB who reminds them of the past decade of failure. This now sours their perception of the GM as well, since he surely must be less than stellar not to realize DJ is the main reason this team has not reached its pinnacle of success for the past 6 years. DJ represents the sacrificial lamb this organization refused to sacrifice. They cannot comprehend how this organization cannot see that DJ is not and will never be capable of being better than a bottom tier QB and their hopes were dashed on the rocks by not drafting another QB, who surely must be better than what they have trotted out for the past 6 years. They cannot imagine that any GM with an ounce of sense cannot see this. In their own minds they cannot reconcile that our GM might actually be operating the team in a logical and non-emotional manner.
First 3 picks were good, could be great
56goat : 4/28/2024 8:34 am : link
Last 3 are projects. Theo is the classis athlete that needs to be more of a football player, benched at times as another poster pointed out. Reminds me of Engram, hopefully this one turns out better.

Daniel Jomes did not fail the Giants, the Giants failed Daniel Jones! The same guys who think we reached for him are the same guys who think JJ wasn't that same exact reach!!! Jones came in and had a solid rookie year, accept for TO! Do we come back and get some weapons nope we leave our WR1 and 2 as can't stay healthy Sheppard and Slayton Then instead of moving up and getting Waddle or taking the best defensive player in the draft we move back for LIL JOKER 2022 we pass on G. Wilson for a slow OT!!

He hats ok maybe we fixed the OL? Naaaa we started guys like Solider; Skura, Price, Fleming, Lemieux, Gates, Phillips. The best G we've started the past 5 season was straight off the couch Justin Pugh who practically begged the Giants to sign him.

Instead we offered him injuries, 3 different offenses, bum OL and no solutions at WR until year 5.

Maybe he isn't the guy, but he never had a chance to be the guy in the first place!!
Drafting a QB
redwhiteandbigblue : 4/28/2024 9:47 am : link
In round 7 would be boneheaded. So drafting a player to "send a message"? Are you kidding? Way too many needs to waste a pick on a "message". Ridiculous. What percentage of QB's drafted in the 7th round make ANY impact?
I was a yes until they took Tracy at 166, a RB they don’t need.
Spider56 : 4/28/2024 10:21 am : link
I wanted Jordan Travis who the Jests traded up to take at 171. They’re both projects but 1 was in a position of need and he’s a winner. Left a sour taste on the whole draft. Let’s check back in 2-3 years and see.

Nonsense, this guy is a dual treat in the running and passing game. He is going to contribute, in a big way, in year one. You can't ask for anything more from a fifth rounder.

I’m not taking anything away from the pick … and its great if he works out. But I’m disappointed they didn’t take Travis, because I think he’s going to be very good, and I’d hate to see it be for the Jests.

I hear ya…I was very vocal advocating for Travis too, but I thought we could get him in round 6. I guess the Jets didn’t want to take the chance of losing him to people like me, so they pulled the trigger earlier.

How have they worked out?
No.
Jerry in_DC : 4/28/2024 4:26 pm : link
It could work out. Could be that the 3 QBs available turn out not to be good. Could be that Nabers is great and we hit on some other guys and there is another path to a QB. We won't know all of that for a few years - same as every other draft.

For now, though, it's so depressing. Another hopeless season. Timeline of potentially being an actual good team delayed another year, likely to 2027 at best. Another season of focusing on draft position. Another season of risking that Daniel strings a couple decent games together at the end of the year and he continues to engratatiate himself with the decision makers to give him unprecedented starts for a QB of his level. It's a sad situation. Year after year wasted.

Again- could work. Won't know for a while. But for now, depressing
