It worked for a while but that kind of pressure is hard to keep up for very long. Rangers controlled the third rather easily.

I called him a hack for this reason. He’s a legit hockey player unlike some guys who stick around for years who really can’t play who pull shit like this. But his willingness to hurt players makes the need for guys like Rempe to be on the ice. .

That’s why hearing Caps players whine about Rempe w Wilson on their team is hilarious. Not really of course. And that hit on Fox needs to be filed away for next year as well

Islanders Game 5 is tomorrow. Extra day of rest for the Rangers. Hopefully there will be a game 6.

Good win for the Rangers. It never really was in doubt once the 3rd period hit. Give credit to the Capitals for making it as far as they did. But the Rangers were playing the Hershey Bears pretty much.

Next series will be tough. Hopefully we can find ways to score more on 5v5.

If Chytil is back, Rempe is the odd man out. Which is okay, because I think you will need skill vs grit against the Canes or Isles.

I forgot

What it was like to not fret through a 7 game series. Good on the Rangers for buying themselves some extra time. Hopefully the Isles notch another win and force game 6.

Rangers record with Rempe in the lineup is outstanding. Chytil hasn't played in six months. Would be an interesting dilemma.

the leveling up of competition could not be more stark. We beat easily the worst playoff team this year and some were analytically saying were saying a historically poor play of team at least in recent time. They were also banged up etc. We did what we needed to do and that was great. I like Rempe, I love his energy etc, but we are going from the worst team to the best team--if Chytil is ready and in shape, suit him up.
This series has me feeling good, but the sweep feels strange
Bear vs Shark : 4/29/2024 9:33 am : link
Maybe its because I've almost NEVER seen the Rangers win series in under 6 games, let alone sweep (I started seriously following hockey in 05)... but the eyeball test has me feeling like the Rangers didn't play as well as they could have during this series.

What's weird though is that this doesn't jive with any of the stats from the series, e.g. Washington literally only holding a lead for 3 minutes and change. It just seems to me that if we play this way against Carolina, we won't the series against them.

Also, the Islanders blowing game 2 is so frustrating now, because if they won, my gut says the Canes-Isles series would have gone 7. Hoping the Isles can extend it to 6 regardless tonight.

Curious to see what happens with Chytil now. When do they bring him back (assuming they even do), where do they play him initially, and where will his final spot be?

I assume Rempe will be the one to sit, though as mentioned above, the NYR record with him in the lineup is stellar and his shifts at MSG are essentially "break glass in case of emergency if pumping up the crowd is needed".

Initially, I was hoping he'd slot in on the first line, but that line has been playing better, particularly Mika. Ros also looks less invisible out there.

But if he plays center, you end up with EXCELLENT center depth and can move Goodrow to wing on the fourth by bumping down Wennberg.

Vesey-Wennberg-Goodrow feels more like a third line than a fourth line, and I think gives the rangers a true ability to roll four lines.
Great to get the sweep
ShockNRoll : 4/29/2024 9:37 am : link
My son and I drove down for game 3 on Friday, and I have to say, this is the 8th NHL arena I have seen the Rangers play, and this was by far the whiniest group of fans I have ever seen. Every Caps player that fell, stumbled, got hit, they were screaming for a penalty. Booing Panarin every time he touched the puck because of the hit on Oshie, "these refs suck" chants all night, despite the fact that they had 6 power plays and some of those calls were kind of questionable. Of course the 1994 chants, and after the game "Well you guys have no chance of beating Carolina!" is what they resorted to. I would have thought they would have just recognized that they were lucky to even be there, and were playing a far superior team. A lot of Ranger fans there too, and it was really an awesome experience.

Anyway, about the series itself, the Rangers did exactly what I would have expected. No game was ever really in doubt, even last night, I never actually thought they'd lose. Great to see the Rangers big guys show up. I'm premature here, but if they win the Cup, Trocheck could be the Conn Smythe winner. I keep coming back to, remember when people were actually mad that his contract was too expensive with too much term?! Carolina is a big step up, but I think the Rangers take care of them in 6. This team is on a mission. We know what Carolina is going to do. Part of their undoing every year is how predictable their game is, in my opinion. This year, they do have the Guentzel factor which fills a huge hole they've been lacking, but I don't think it's enough. Rangers can match their skill, speed, are more physical, and as good as Freddie Andersen has been, the goaltending matchup is not close. Not to mention that the Canes always struggle on the road in the playoffs. Hopefully the Islanders get this at least to game 6, but either way, this Rangers team is not going to be stopped.

Regarding your first point, I think that works in the Rangers favor, in that they did not really need to exert themselves. These were fairly easy wins for the most part, where they did not need to rely on their big guns to keep them in the game. For example, Fox played 21, 23, 21, 21 minutes in the 4 games. Compared to the ECF run 2 years ago where he was logging 26-28 minutes, some nights over 30, and after the first two rounds, he looked gassed in the Tampa series.

The Rangers have been excellent after long breaks this year, and even if Carolina wins tomorrow night, it stands to reason that game 1 wouldn't be until at least Friday but maybe even later, depending on when other series' end. I do not worry at all about rust, given how good they've been with lots of rest this year. Isles/Canes game 6 would be Thursday, 7 would be Saturday. If the Islanders even push this to 6, Rangers will have a full week off to focus on resting, and game planning for both teams with the primary focus on Carolina.
*Assuming the Canes beat the Fishsticks tomorrow*
Optimus-NY : 4/29/2024 9:53 am : link
I think the winner of this Carolina-NYR series wins the Cup. I'm with Essex: they're literally going from playing the worst team in the playoffs to arguably the best (after the Rangers of course!). Having a Game 7 at MSG is a BIG advantage against them since they're such a different team on the road compared to their arena. That's the best advantage gained from winning the Presidents' Trophy.

Carolina is a really good team, but I think the Rangers match up well with them. Rangers are good against cycling teams, and can withstand teams that generate offensive pressure. If they have a defensive weakness, it's rush defense, which is not an area where Carolina thrives. The one worry I have is the Rangers' propensity to turn the puck over, namely Trouba and Miller. The only offensive players that truly scare me on Carolina are Guentzel and Aho. Svechnikov, Jarvis, Necas, Teravainen, Kuznetsov, are all nice players, but I think the Rangers can minimize their impact.

Good point, not to mention another half season to a lockout too. He should already own the record when you think about it. Whether he likes Putin or not certainly has no bearing on whether he is a douchebag or not though.
You can say Ovi
pjcas18 : 4/29/2024 11:51 am : link
was hurt by the reasons mentioned, but Gretzky also suffered from the strike of '94-95 and only played a 48 game season and played in the WHA as an 18-year old rookie (46 goals) which do not count in his NHL total and Ovi played the past 8 years with 3v3 OT. Can you imagine if 3v3 OT existed when Gretzky played. That's another possibly 100 goals.

I think given the game changes, etc. it all evens out.

Ovi is the best goal scorer of this era and played in an era where goal scoring was done, if he breaks the record, he absolutely earned it.

Every team is flawed and worse than the Rangers. East and West.

FLA is the best after the Rangers, IMO, but their D other than Forsling are no bueno defensively. And they take a ton of penalties which plays into the Rangers hands. But they are DEEP at forward with Barkov, Tkachuk, Reinhart, Verhaeghe, Bennett, Lundell, Tarasenko, legit scoring from 3 lines and a good 4th line. And the one goalie in the East IMO who can steal a series, but who also turns into a pumpkin at times.

BOS, CAR both good teams in the East but neither should beat NYR.

I'm a huge Rangers fan by the way. But I'm a hockey fan as well, something you know little about apparently. Saying a guy should retire from a bad series. Should Panarin have retired after last season? You said a moronic statement, acknowledge it like a man.
Good Morning Brett

A nice Monday morning isn’t it. Well tough series against the Whalers coming up. I don’t think the Icelanders have a chance. Go NY Go!

But I'm not afraid of anyone in the East. West might be different now that Colorado is suddenly playing like a juggernaut again.

From someone very high up in the panther org he was a it worried about their goalie he Tampas goalie. I’d suggest he’d feel the same about Shesty. Nothing is guaranteed but this team has a legit shot. But since it has Ben a generation I get the hesitancy lol
