They wouldn't have had the double-play anyhow, but Rizzo missed badly on the return throw from Volpe that hit off his glove just now. I don't know why, but Rizzo continues to look like he's on rollerskates out there.
I liked the idea in theory when I first heard they were reverting back to the pre-1967 (or whatever it was) road uniforms with no white shadowing the numbers. I'm not sure why, but somehow they look cheapie.
I just saw that the Yankees next play four in Baltimore, so hopefully this 15-runs-per-game thing continues.
Position player pitching the 9th--two games in a row--so it may end up being more than 15 runs.
Section125, poignant comment you made in the other thread (where in an ill-advised moment I made a statement that somehow made me a Dimes-lover, and the pitchforks came out). I'm in the Tampa area, and when discussing the pending draft with some Bucs fans at work this past week, one of them suggested that Eli was a slightly-luckier version of Trent Dilfer by virtue of not one, but two improbable SB runs. I laughed.

Ha, that is a poor comparison. Eli was far superior to Dilfer who truly was sub-mediocre. I personally was never a huge Eli fan even though I appreciated him and his smarts. I always considered him in good not great area.
I sort of noticed no one came after me for saying that either...
Stroman only going 4 isn't helpful as we go into Baltimore.
That said - great to see the bats come alive!
Cannot be good each outing. He just didn't have it and got hooked up with an umpire that was not calling strikes - most often you get a guy giving off the black. Today was a guy that didn't even give on the white. Stroman lives on the corners, he wasn't getting calls today. Greg Maddux would have gotten shelled....

No question Eli was a better QB than Dilfer, though I agree that he was never in that top tier of elite passers. They don't come much tougher, though; too bad about that streak-breaking McAdoo benching.
There's no real doubt he's doing it to distract or alter the path of the throw. Usually he puts up the left hand, but on one play where the angle makes the right hand more useful for the purpose, he switches.
Actually getting hit is not part of the plan. Too risky for injury and draws too much attention. youtube - ( New Window )
In the battle for first place, the Yankee offense reverted
to the non-15-run-scoring version, wrong end of 2-0 final.
O's only scored one earned run themselves, leadoff HR in 1st by Henderson off Schmidt. Eighth inning insurance run scored on a bad boot by Volpe with two outs, after Holmes had been brought in to keep the deficit at one.
Yanks had a potential rally in the sixth as O's starter Grayson Rodriquez was tiring. But it was killed by Stanton being forced out at second base on Austin Wells' apparent line drive single to RF. Stanton hesitated for a moment to be sure the liner would clear the second baseman, and that was enough.
Of course that has been the league-wide criticism of the jerseys in general this season.
Judge has looked better today. Need the BP to step up today.
I've wanted to see that every play since players started wearing the oven mits.
Big risk for the big guy.
As Gleyber and Trevino come through with two out rbi singles - 3 runs in 7-4.
Nice and we predicted 2 hits and 1 run today....
Can't tell if I am good luck or bad.
Only give up 1 run....
I was thinking the same thing - at least because we need to keep both Rizzo and DJ fresh and they both run like they have great grandkids.
Yankees offense has scored 28 runs over the past 2 days thus far. Crazy.
Maybe the A's aren't trash.

Good shit.

They might not be the worst of the worst. They're 12-17.
They are almost as painful as the A's broadcast team.

Astros are worse and nothing could be finer!

19-10 record.

I just read today that Stroman is only 5'7, which would seem to be a real disadvantage for an MLB pitcher.
I've wanted to see that every play since players started wearing the oven mits.
Big risk for the big guy.
On ESPN now, the umps admitting they blew an interference call on Judge (that happened to lead to the big inning).
Given all the crappy calls going against us, boo hoo ...
