Interesting draft trends for this regime

Corner and receiver in the first 3 rounds.

Wandale and Flott (before reworking the scouting)
Banks and Hyatt
Nabers and Phillips (doubling down with Nubin)

Makes sense: NFL is a passing league and top guys at those roles are expensive.

Generally pepper in OL: Neal, Ezeudu, Schmitz.

Then TE/RB in rounds 4/5: skill value in both the pass/run games, athleticism matters, want to pick your undervalued guy with upside.

Then the run game late with more fungible LBs and DTs, where supply is ok and price is low on the market.

Positional value isn't rocket science. Still, it feels like a more savvy, contemporary approach. Especially with the willingness to move around the draft at the right price.

Of course it all comes down to the picks and the jury is out there. Though I'm generally optimistic. Especially considering the short run up to the first draft, the need to scout the scouting, revamp the processes, even add digital to the room!

Just to add another point - I think Schoen is here a while. More likely 10+ years than gone next year. They hit rock bottom, finally looked outside the org, made their choice, added a young, buttoned up, well spoken guy. If he continues to demonstrate that he can handle everything - the owner input, the other GMs, the larger org, the media, etc. - he'll be brought into the fold. We'll watch him lose his hair.

Given this time frame, I think it's promising that he knows how to operate and seems on the ball. Even the Waller swing and miss made sense - you could choose to do it or not do it, but it was an NFL move. And a couple misses will be forgiven. They are part of the game. He seems bold enough to act if the opportunity is there.

Again, the questions are really about the picks. And I don't think we know much yet. As I've said, I give them some leeway on year one considering the operation wasn't up and running and what they inherited was seriously sub-par.
They also spent draft capital

On pass rushers, picking KT in the first and trading a second for Burns.

The biggest prize is yet to be seen… maybe next year we’ll add QB to the mix.

Solid approach, let’s see if we get some long term core pieces out of these last 3 drafts.
it's not a big surprise

Schoen has mentioned the importance of investing premium draft picks into premium positions. QB, WR, OT, CB, and DL are the premium positions. I'd be shocked if he invested a 1st into any other position.
He is still learning....but love many things about him

The draft room...is packed with state of the art technology.

He has surrounded himself with pros....and they all have contacts with in the NFL.

I also do not see a hot seat.....I see a longtermer
Investment and return on investment are two different things..

I have to see more from OL and DL picks...
That’s all well and good, but…
