Time of year when teams revamp scouting departments

Eric from BBI : Admin : 4/28/2024 7:40 pm
The Giants have made significant changes after the draft in 2022 and 2023. It will be interesting to see if that continues of if the dust has settled.

Note changes already starting to occur around the NFL (this guy has the best X feed for scouting changes).

Considering our performances this past decade, all the scouts should be sleeping easy knowing they're going nowhere. They've done such a bang up job.
The need a scout with a strong history evaluating OL prospects

Solid take, these scouts are the end of the story when it comes to roster talent. Coaches? Don’t need them to coach, clearly…in your head.

I don’t understand why the pitchforks are out to find the one bad actor in this org/roster. It’s a combination of many teams of people. They’re all guilty until their not.

Brad Obee, who spent almost a decade w/the #Eagles over two stints, is exploring new opportunities as his contract w/Philadelphia has ended. Obee, a veteran of both pro and college scouting, also spent six years w/the #Bears and is a @penn_state grad.

how they grade and weight positions?

And requiring "Full bloom love" to draft a player?
This is What Distinguishes the Consistent Winners

I surely hope that the organization re-evaluates its scouting constantly. Excellence in all phases is what separates the teams which consistently win from those who occasionally get lucky and catch lightening in a bottle. Unfortunately, aside from the earlier stage of the George Young days, the Giants have been a team that only occasionally wins and then reverts.

It looks to me that the current organization is building for long lasting results.

That said, get me the scouts who find D linemen for the Cowboys and Eagles!
I'd like to see them

do something similar to the Rams and bring in specialists for position groups, specifically for the OL as we've been horrid drafting them.

I agree 100%. We are in an age of specialization. I would set up my scouting department as follows.

College:
Area scouts like we have now with a few extra scouts who would focus on specific teams that produce the most pros: Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Texas, etc...

Pro:
One scout per division. Evaluate 53 roster, PS, and players that are cut by team. Send evaluations to position scouts for refinement.

Position Scouts:
DB, LB, OL, DL, QB, WR/TE, RB
These scouts would assist the area and pro scouts by doing more detailed evaluations of the players that hit the radar and ranking the players vs others in their position group. They would also work closely with the Giants position coaches to undrstand what they are looking for in players.
