Are Draft Grades The Most Meaningless Click You Will Make

Essex : 4/29/2024 8:40 am
All Sports year.

The draft grades crack me up, it is basically did the teams conform to my mock. If yes, they got a great draft grade. If not, they did not. In reality, we don't know a draft class for 2 to 3 years at least.

I wish some website would go back and rank the classes three or four years later (especially after second contracts and option pickups) vs the grades the pundits give them. I just think if these pundits are going to engage in this "grading" they should have some accountability.
Some Websites do regrade after 2-3 years

But also after one game, three games, six games, 1 season, etc.

My favorite are redrafts after 1 season, where they basically already declare players a gem or a bust. I've seen redrafts that already declare Banks a bust and have us drafting someone else.
No way. I love them.

As long as they tell me what I want to hear.

the rate my fantasy team or check out my mock draft or what you are eating this week?

they're all pretty meaningless, killing time until we die, when you think about it. Except the hockey threads, those are gold.

Fantasy football related crap is way worse than any quick draft assessment. At least a quick draft assessment is about real teams.

Many people enjoy them

Though some take them way too seriously and history shows they largely have no clue.

Let's get these kids in here, then we can start seeing what we got. The rest is just fodder for X/Twitter.
No, mock drafts are.

We’re already seeing mock drafts for 2025, give me a break.

Dan Duggan predicted three of the Giants first four picks.
I don't mind draft grades as much as most seem to hate them.

I mean, they are mostly pointless so I agree with you on that. However, we hear that we should evaluate the draft classes 3 to 4 years down the road. That makes sense but that grading is based on production. Draft grades are given based on hoe the evaluators graded the players. In essence, it is more of a self grade than a team grade. When they give a grade to the team, it is really saying how good that team did drafting players based in their rankings, hence they are grading themselves. I like to read why we got a good or bad grade on each pick and make a mental note of it. It helps you steer clear of a lot of people that have no idea what they are doing and lean more towards the people that do. Remember, nobody is 100% accurate.
I think the draft experts

have basically put our draft into two categories--those who love high ceiling guys like the third and fourth round picks. Those who don't question it. With regard to Nubin, I think people are also divided on him. Kiper says he questions his speed at next level. I am just worried about that conference, the B1G conference subdivision he was in (the one opposite Osu, Michigan, and PSU) may have the worst QBs in a P5 conference. I also think Cooper Dejean who the Eagles had might be overrated because of that as well. But who the heck knows--I certainly dont

close. Among other things I open almost every football thread on BBI some more than once!
I think they are as useful

As the Rotten Tomatoes fresh meter. When there is a consensus score it’s a good indicator of the FO’s performance. Individual grade? I see them as a snapshot. How a player is viewed at the time they are drafted. Overall draft grades mean more to me a high grade means the FO didn’t make any bonehead mistakes and if a player doesn’t pan out, it’s not because the FO didn’t do their homework. A poor grade, to me, means the FO made some very questionable decisions and if they don’t pan out it’s on them. But again, needs to be a consensus. If it’s just one or two experts/analysts I don’t put much faith in the grade even if it’s someone I usually agree with and MAY agree with in the moment.
Nothing can be dumber than the morning after grades,

I admit I hate the draft because I'm butt hurt over not getting a QB and/or not upgrading the lines but for all I know all of these guys will end up making an impact. Further all the grades really do is praise group think.

That was unreal. I wonder if that's a first by any reporter.
I look at it

As they are grading themselves as how well they know the teams. Best review I saw last year they graded the draft 4 years ago based on the second contract even if it was for a different team or if they got the 5th-year option.
