He needs to move down in the order. Rushing him to leadoff was a mistake that appears to have messed with his approach. Now he's being expected to get on base rather than look for his pitch. I think the Yanks did him a major disservice here.
and that bases loaded escape was awesome. Fingers crossed he continues a big year. Maybe he can be our AJ Burnett to Cole's CC?
The lesson here (after Rodon gives up a bomb), as always, is never to be optimistic on sports. There is a very high correlation between my optimism and failure by my favorite teams.
at least he didn't do that when the bags were full!
Can't be letting those hitters beat you deep, but there is zero margin for error being provided to the pitching staff right now by the offense. A pitching staff that is already stretched pretty thin.
Is this what contract year Gleyber Torres is going to look like? Really disappointing start after two very solid years appeared to silence some critics. Slumps tend to snowball with him too. Not nearly enough so far from Judge, Rizzo, Stanton, Volpe, Wells. A surprising lack of power at times too. It's good they got fat off Milwaukee pitching for a few games or the numbers would be really ugly.
Actually pretty happy with a 20-12 start given no Cole and that many guys not matching the numbers on the back of their baseball card. Let's get going here
The guy that really surprises me is Rizzo. I really thought he would benefit from the end of the shift. He is coming out of it a little. But, I think he still has residual effects from the concussion last year because he looks lost at times, not just at the plate, but in the field.
I mean, is he ever gonna be at least somewhat consistent this season?
I feel sorry for Boone, he’s going to have to figure out what to do with Judge and Stanton in the lineup. Right now Boone will be lucky if the both hit 240.
Judge is under a ton of pressure this coming week at home if he continues to not hit.

Agree. It's a difficult situation for him. There's potential psychological impact on the whole team from dropping him in the order.
probably have the (slightly) better team than us now and throughout the rest of the season. It doesn't have to be this way, but Hal has Cashman on a budget. Nothing will dramatically change as long as Hal owns the team and is content with running things the way he does. Because of that, it's hard for me to get as fired up as I used to. This is what Hal wants, and this is what Hal gets.
I'm much more frustrated by the Giants because that appeared to be a stupidity (Gettleman) problem versus a budget issue.

He had a GREAT 10 game stretch before the TOR series and he’s been awful ever since.
Oddly enough, Volpe has also been awful since the beginning of the TOR series.
With a few exceptions--and maybe/hopefully Soto is one--almost all hitters go through streaks. I have no reason to believe Judge's skills are declining. Volpe is less proven, but I also don't think the league has figured him out or anything.
I'm more worried about Rizzo and Stanton because their performance could be due to declining skills. (Especially Rizzo given how obviously the injury affected him last year.)

Yes, its all Hal's fault. He's a tightwad. If only Cohen owned the Yankees. Look what a great job he's done.

How can you complain about a budget when the Yankees have the 2nd highest payroll in baseball.

There is no one else to lead off. They had to get Torres out of there. They don't want to put Verdugo number one and be lefty-lefty with Soto as 1-2.
There is no one else who is even plausible until DJL comes back, and I don't even like him for the role at his age.
Hitting is hitting, pretty much, and Volpe either will or he won't.

I knew that inning would especially bug you Greg. Bombs to 2 scrubs like Mateo & McKenna? come on!
No more saying nice things about Rodon today, that shit's embarrassing as hell.

I am so sadly predictable. But yeah, in a lineup that has dangerous young hitters all over the place, you give up dingers to THOSE two guys??

It's a waste of Soto, presently, to have Judge right behind him. Just more chances to pad his league leading GIDP.

We really need Cole to come back and stay back with much better performance from Judge/Stanton/Rizzo/Torres.

We need better performance from these guys. Huh. whodathunkit after last year?

Handcuffed by contracts. At least Torres is still young. What's up DJ?
