12 players officially had their 5th-year options declined:
No. 2: Zach Wilson
No. 3: Trey Lance
No. 11: Justin Fields
No. 15: Mac Jones
No. 16: Zaven Collins
No. 19: Jamin Davis
No. 20: Kadarius Toney
No. 22: Caleb Farley
No. 24: Najee Harris
No. 28: Payton Turner
No. 29: Eric Stokes
No. 32: Joe Tryon-Shoyinka
Alex Leatherwood (No. 17, cut from contract) and Rashod Bateman (No. 27, not enough accrued seasons) were not eligible.
As for Kadarius, Haha.
Exactly haha, maybe NYG made the right choice this draft after all… there’s a lot of lost premium draft capital lost just being in a position to make many of those QB picks… yikes. I’ll take Nabers, thanks! Haha
This is a great example of why I'd love to see a "like" option for comments!
Haaaa
How about 24...6 in the first 12 picks
5 of 6 will be on this same list in a few years
Shows how pro scouts can often be wrong.
the only 4 players in top 15 to not get picked up are the qbs who flopped (mac, fields, zach, lance).
that is why in top 10 if you are going in on a QB it better be one you feel really good about.
surprised you think so, i wouldn't. i think he's been pretty good. 9-8 both of the last 2 years. beat herbert in the playoff game.
that division got a lot better this year with houston and indy both having good years. there are teams that would line up to give up a good draft pick for lawrence.
So why is that? The team was crap his first two years and still has a lot of holes. He has talent and can make all the throws

they decline Lawrence's, too...

I like Lawrence and the talent is there. But I just need to see more. His 2023 campaign was pretty poor.
He was in solid 2022 after a pretty gloomy rookie campaign.
So, that's two poor years bookending a solid year. Hard to reward that...

The talent is there, yes. But check out his overall performance over three years. Where is the compelling case to make a bigger investment?
Lawrence - 3yrs - ( New Window )
You have to think about this when considering our draft this year.

QB isn’t like other positions. When you hit the payoff can be absolutely franchise changing. Even Alex Smith level can get you far if you have the pieces elsewhere.
Yup. There’s no reason to expect this year to be much different… at least 3, maybe 4 of the 6 will bust as well.
Does that mean he's a FA?? Kick the tires? (:

his 2022 and 2023 were almost indistinguishable statistically except for a net increase of +4 turnovers. literally exact same QBRs down to the decimal. jags had same 9-8 record both years. maybe they took a slight step back with division being stronger and not sneaking up on people as much, but i dont see where there's anything poor about his 2023 if 2022 was considered solid.
he is a middle 1/3 QB, as long as he performs that way i think you hang on to him and hope you can progress him into the top 1/3. he's a very talented qb who is still only 24, so basically same age as half of the guys who went round 1 this year. unless they somehow get another first overall pick they arent finding a better prospect than him.
Giants liked Collins and Davis in the draft (previous regime) but worth noting.

Lawrence had 6 more INTs and 4 less TDs (recovered fumbles is so arbitrary - to me). And the Jacksonville offense didn't improve YoY.
After building a decent foundation in 2022, the expected next step just didn't happen for TL.
So, I just find it hard to reward that with the next-in-line big contract. Make him earn it in 2024 with another opportunity. If he's solid/good, then Jax has the tag option. If he breaks through with a great campaign, then have the bigger contract discussion.
What's the rush?

He's basically had a good half season (2nd half of 2022) and the rest has been average or worse.
If the Chargers coach didn't choke away that playoff game, Lawrence would be facing a lot more criticism.
As for Kadarius, Haha.
From one who wanted one of those QBs...
Toney is a punk and another wasted NYG number 1 pick
Build the team. You can win a shit ton of games with a solid roster and a DECENT QB. Happy the Giants seem to be realizing this.

nobody is saying they should give him a big extension, that is a strawman.
