He was gracious and kind to my son …. I rock with him …. Hope he as a great career and good games even against us just long as we come away with the W. Go Barkley Fu@k Philly!
Thanks for bringing this up acutally. I brought a bunch of kids to meet him once. He was seriously one of the greatest intereactions I have ever seen an athlete have with kids.
He got it. I was blown away how he took the time to talk with them, literally made sure to know each of their names and to keep addressing each one by name. It really was amazing to watch.
It's unfortunate how little the fans gave the love back to him. Which is why he is so sensitive about it.
But he's gotta be smarter with the comments to the fans and showing his thin skin.
What is he supposed to do, play for the Eagles and root for New York sports teams?
And this isn't Mark Bavaro playing for the Eagles. It's Saquon Barkley. Bavaro was a guy who was part of the fabric of this team during championship runs. Barkley is a guy with a very forgettable Giants career.
Jalen Brunson says he's an Eagles fan.
I'm cheering him, but I wish he hadn't told us that.
On the other hand, why is he reacting to this stuff. He seems overly sensitive to any criticism from Giants fans, I almost wonder if he regrets leaving.
He went to a Sixers vs. Knicks playoff game and was cheering for the Sixers. Why is it surprising to anyone - least of all Barkley - that Knicks fans, who were well represented in the building, gave him a hard time just like any Philly sports fan has ever done to a New York fan during a rivalry game?
Barkley then goes running to Twitter to complain about it and somehow the New York fans are the ones who are wrong? For what, acting like actual fans instead of the pushover pollyannas who propped up his "legacy" with the Giants?
No wonder the guy has never won anything. This just seems so overly sensitive on his part. What did he expect would happen? And does he not realize that it's because the Sixers were playing the Knicks? No one would have said shit to him if New York wasn't involved in the game.
I wanted Barkley to go to a place like the Texans where he could do cool shit and I could still root for him. It's sports. He earned the heat going to a rival.
RE: When i read this thread, I agreed - let Barkley be
1) he claims he can't be a traitor because the Giants never tried to sign him. Come on man. Everyone knows you got offered deals, and ownership would do anything to have kept you.
But then he brings it upon himself
- ...and after already being here for a month man I’m excited to be (an) Eagle! Go Birds!
- [/i]Side note that game was crazy lit!! Got me geeked for homes games at the linc😤[/i]
Dude, it's been all over everywhere. The Sixers fans let NEW YORK, your former home, invade a PLAYOFF game. Embarrased the city and franchise where they had to buy up all the tickets.
Yet NY fans STILL let out a deafening roar when Hart hit that three. You're geeked to leave which city for which?
As I said, I was on Barkleys side for this till I saw what he said after.
Yes they did, he just was too stupid to take the offer.
It comes with the territory. Barkley is sensitive.
He is so thin skinned, he is really going to hate it if Eagles fans turn on him if shit goes south.
If you dont want to hear the boos, then don't sit court-side at a freaking knicks/sixers game.
If you do not want to vilified, maybe dont post shit like that on twitter.
If a Giant tackles Barkley in the backfield and disrespectfully steps OVER him and gets the crowd pumped, I will be cheering.
Some of us are not Penn State fans. Some of us thought drafting Barkley was the one of biggest mistakes in Giants history. Some of us think he was/is SOFT. Some of us think his sensitive demeanor was on display on Sundays with his inability to gain short yardage with those gigantic quads.
If I were a professional athlete, I'd have a Jacuzzi full of money I jumped in instead when I had the urge to care what fans thought.
If I were a fan who had the urge to tell a professional athlete what I thought, I'd punch myself in the dick instead.
Here's what I would say - if I went to last night's game and had a chance to engage in any good-natured shit-talking with a rival fan that didn't result in me actually being burned in effigy outside the arena, I would. If I had a chance to go back and forth with Rob McElhenney, for example (just to choose a celeb Philly fan), I would have fun with that.
But Barkley seemingly wants to go to a playoff game between Philly and New York, root for Philly, and still be revered - in that specific moment - by New York fans. The scenario itself was never going to allow for that. How were Sixers fans treating their former Villanova favorites that came into their building as Knicks and ended their season? Was the home crowd cheering them on as a show of legacy loyalty?
I don't think this is an instance of both sides being babies, IMO.
with Giants fans booing an Eagle. But calling him a turncoat is pretty ridiculous. First, it's not like he was anything but a consummate Giant while with NY. Fans act like it's his fault he got hurt. Or it's his fault they didn't trade him in the middle of last season.
Second, I'm sure everyone who is mad because he went to the Eagles would take 30 or 40 percent less money to continue working for the same company if another equal or better company came offering a huge raise for a longer period of time.
Third, he grew up in Pennsylvania, and as a kid spent a lot of time at the Eagles' training camp, which was near his home. Why would anyone be surprised he is an Eagles and 76ers fan? He's probably a Phillies and Flyers fan too.
2. Some fans thinks its okay to purposely puke on a little 11 year old girl (oh right that's a philly fan)
3. Philly Sucks, I hope Barkley plays like garbage for them.
4. I do not condone any bad behavior against anyone regardless of their city or fanhood, but I am not going to be, "Oh poor Saquan is getting booed cheering for his team"

Agree to disagree. I think christian's sentiment is exactly how I look at it. The fans are just as pathetic as Barkley in this story.
Between OBJ, Toney, Barkley, etc I don't understand why anyone gives a shit about a player who is doing nothing to contribute to the success of the team any longer.
You can argue their departure is the most beneficial outcome to the success of the team so the notion to go out your way to perpetually shit on them is confusing.

You're comparing fans blasting a guy (from the area) sitting in the stands pulling for his favorite team (one he never played against), to the fans' reaction to guys who are actually playing against their team? Sorry, that's just not logical.
he goes to a Knick/Sixers and kind of was rooting for the sixers. Fine, go-live your life as you see fit. What did he expect that he would not get some flack on social media. If you went to the game fine, just don't respond. I think what angers him is that he wanted to keep the fanbase he created here and now is bitter that it is gone. That he thinks educating us that the Giants did not make an offer will somehow make it better for him is just stupid. People don't go on to social media for nuance and reasoned arguments, they go on to flame. The facts here remain, he did not do anything here worth remembering him for as a Giants legend and he now went to a rival. In other words, most of us can care less about him. Also, protip to Saquon: don't go on your rival's social media and tell us the cute story about your daughter "saying that they were going to win now" (which probably never happened) and think Giants fans will appreciate them.

I started by also saying that I would think no differently of talking shit with a celeb Philly fan like Rob McElhenney.
The issue isn't fans acting like fans, IMO. The issue is the Sixers fan in question being upset that the Knicks fans in question (who used to cheer for him as Giants fans) are no longer treating him nicely.
Even if he was still on the Giants and he was in the building last night cheering on the Sixers, I think Knicks fans would have engaged on that front. He's the one making this about him. I think it was about a playoff game atmosphere between two rival cities, one of which had to buy their own tickets to try to stop the visiting team's fans from taking over their arena - there was a high level of rivalry energy in the mix because of that, too. It just so happens that he's inextricably linked to both of the cities and this offseason is the intersection of that for him, specifically.
The team would be better off without both of them.
That is one of the more bizarre things. Saquon thinks his legacy here is entitled to some deference or that he even created one here. He had a good rookie year and a decent 2022. He did not win anything here or do anything really to be remembered. As far as Giants RB go, he isnt even in the top 5 of my lifetime of impact on the Giants. That would be
1) Tiki 2) Joe Morris 3)Otis Anderson 4) Bradshaw/Jacobs combo 5) Hampton and that is six. Maybe he goes before that just in the people I saw in my lifetime (not counting Gifford etc).
He could have played here longer but he chose to go for the money.
You wonder if in three years he thinks the money was worth it.
Yeah go to a vastly superior organization for more money, staying on a horribly run franchise for less money so the fans can shit on him more because John Mara is incompetent is a decision he should have made 🙄
What is he supposed to do, play for the Eagles and root for New York sports teams?
And this isn't Mark Bavaro playing for the Eagles. It's Saquon Barkley. Bavaro was a guy who was part of the fabric of this team during championship runs. Barkley is a guy with a very forgettable Giants career.
At this point I don’t care who Barkley cheers for! I may b wrong but I do believe that Jalen Brunson is an Eagles fan but our Knicks are his team!

He's from PA, all yall Saquon haters are delusional and most are DJ cult people.
My comments above are more geared towards Twitter battles. If a rival player is courtside and on the screen, they deserve a hearty boo. That's a time honored tradition. Seeking out a public figure on Twitter, and them responding is the deplorable scenario.
If I was him I wouldn't say anything. He knows the deal. He knows how
Philly fans are. A couple months ago they were throwing shit at his bus. Giants fans loved him. He's gone but unfortunately to the wrong team. I certainly hope he doesn't run all over us when he plays us.

I agree with that, although it seems (to me) that Barkley took the conversation to Twitter to complain about the treatment he got from Knicks fans in-venue, but I could be wrong ("Barkley" in particular is a noisy search term for NBA playoff activity because of Charles).

Saquon can root for whoever he wants, its the twitter battles with people that criticize him for it is the most revelatory aspect of this incident, kind of shows you how fragile Saquon is.

Very adult and rational take .... That's not going to fly in these parts ...

LMAO, you have to be kidding me.
Saquan plays for the Eagles
DJ plays for the Giants
during this season,if DJ is on the field.
Giants vs Eagles
If you are caring more about Saquan and less about DJ, you are not a real Giants fan.
I don't care about Saquon. I'm saying the people that claim Saquon was trash when he was here and he's overrated etc are usually the same ones that are delusional about DJ being good and everyone else being the problem.

I think that's right. So in this case Barkley should go dive in his pool of money Scrooge McDuck style and not bring his tears to Twitter.

Maybe Schoen and Daboll are the dumbest men in the world, but they have seen Saquon first hand and offered him nothing this offseason to come back. Again, they may be stupid and bad at their jobs, but at this point if you think they are good at it, the fact that they offered him nothing should be very revelatory.
Giants didn't offer Saquon a contract this offseason.. the Eagles obviously valued him more and gave him what he deserved.. so he took it. Why are Giants fans made at him for?
Blame Mara, Joe Schoen and Danny Crimes. Had they not given Danny crimes that contract Saquon probably would still be here.

Again, it is not our fanbase who is idiotic. Any idiot with an email address can get a twitter account. Saquon Barkley keeps feeling the need to engage with them and defend himself. Who is the idiot exactly?

You're comparing fans blasting a guy (from the area) sitting in the stands pulling for his favorite team (one he never played against), to the fans' reaction to guys who are actually playing against their team? Sorry, that's just not logical.

He's from PA, all yall Saquon haters are delusional and most are DJ cult people.

LMAO, you have to be kidding me.
Saquan plays for the Eagles
DJ plays for the Giants
during this season,if DJ is on the field.
Giants vs Eagles
If you are caring more about Saquan and less about DJ, you are not a real Giants fan.
I agree with that, although it seems (to me) that Barkley took the conversation to Twitter to complain about the treatment he got from Knicks fans in-venue, but I could be wrong ("Barkley" in particular is a noisy search term for NBA playoff activity because of Charles).

What is he supposed to do, play for the Eagles and root for New York sports teams?

At this point I don’t care who Barkley cheers for! I may b wrong but I do believe that Jalen Brunson is an Eagles fan but our Knicks are his team!
Saquon can root for whoever he wants, its the twitter battles with people that criticize him for it is the most revelatory aspect of this incident, kind of shows you how fragile Saquon is.
Very adult and rational take .... That's not going to fly in these parts ...

Blame Mara, Joe Schoen and Danny Crimes. Had they not given Danny crimes that contract Saquon probably would still be here.

No one wants Barkley here.

Giants didn't offer Saquon a contract this offseason.. the Eagles obviously valued him more and gave him what he deserved.. so he took it. Why are Giants fans made at him for?

That's not the point. But its easy to say that now, let's see how it goes when the season starts

Again, it is not our fanbase who is idiotic. Any idiot with an email address can get a twitter account. Saquon Barkley keeps feeling the need to engage with them and defend himself. Who is the idiot exactly?

It's entirely the point. Doesn't matter how the season goes, not paying him was the correct call.
This basically. He had marginally more impact than either of these two guys.
Nothing but a footnote in Giants history.
