NFT: Removing Old Caulk From a Bathtub

jpennyva : 5/6/2024 8:53 am
Sorry - accidentally posted to football threads originally: I am working to remove old caulk from a bathtub to replace it with new. It is acrylic so can't use a straight-edge knife/blade so have been using a plastic remover tool. Anyone have any suggestions/recommendations? I am having a hell of a time getting the old caulk off and know that ALL of it has to come off before I apply the new caulk. Or is just a matter of using good old-fashioned elbow grease? BBI was hugely helpful when I had a plumbing repair question awhile back so thought I would throw this issue out. TIA!
I believe there is a "caulk remover"

Correct. A Heat Gun is very helpful as well.
Razor blade should get most of it

and use the scraper tool to get what’s left behind. Then clean out with isopropyl alcohol and let dry.

Sold by Krud Kutter widely available in Home Depot, etc.
Try the heat gun first

Any chemical you apply for removal will have to cleaned complete or new silicone won’t adhere.
Thanks!

I would think a razor knife would still be the way to go. Don't use acrylic, it's junk. Use mildew resistant silicone.
