Whether or not the Giants get a 4th rounder or a 7th rounder depends on whether Ben Bredeson plays a good amount of snaps for the Bucs.
Giants fans and observers should be watching how Tampa Bay's starting interior offensive line plays out.
*****
The problem? The Bucs drafted Graham Barton in the 1st round.
I don't disagree but these have been the rules for a long time and we still can't figure it out. Everyone is hating on the Eagles because of all the picks they get but they know how to do it right. We shouldn't be pissed at the Eagles. We should be pissed at our management for sucking.
Barton will probably pick up the protection calls and other responsibilities @the pivot pretty quickly.
The main risk to Bredeson not qualifying would appear to be him getting cut despite $3m gtd before qualifying window. Ourlads currently has him starting LG with Barton starting at C so given what they paid him (more than 2x what we gave Stinnie, all gtd) that would seem unlikely.
Bredeson isn't penciled in to start at left guard. The Bucs' site leaves left guard blank. The question is whether Barton starts at guard or center. Being down here, my guess is Barton starts at guard and they keep Hainsey at center (34 straight starts). Hainsey was a 3rd rounder in 2021.
That is some understatement, huh?
We lose X and Barkley. Yet Bredersons PT is what determines if we get a halfway decent comp pick. That is mind blowingly hysterical 😟

Since Bredeson is penciled to start after letting him walk and the Giants signed Aaron Stinnie who had 11 starts for them last season.

The team websites are meaningless in May, the Giants media team that make up the depth chart don't even do it for months. Ourlads has him starting that was all I was saying. Like you said, Barton is the big piece. Entirely possible they just want Bredeson to be a super sub given his flexibility. Hainsey hasn't been good though (or a least that's what a few articles I brought up said) so wouldn't surprise me if Bredeson was brought in to beat him out and they put Barton at center.
We'll see though.

Hainsey has started 34 straight games at center. He's not Ryan Jensen, but he's not a rookie either. He was a third round pick. How many teams with playoff aspirations start a rookie at center?
I'm hoping for a 4th, but not expecting it.
It should absolutely be revised.
It’s helped the Eagles enough.

Chiefs and Ravens. Barton was the 26th pick, Ravens took Tyler Linderbaum 25th in 2022 and went to the playoffs both years. Creed Humphrey was a second rounder in 2021 who started for the Chiefs as a rookie and went to the conference championship and then won the super bowl year 2.

The Chiefs decided not to re-sign their starting center (and he only started 12 games) and the Ravens center signed with Carolina as a free agent a month before the draft.
In other words both entered the draft without a starting center. That's not the case with the Bucs. Are the Bucs better with Hainsey at center and Barton at guard or Barton at center and Bredeson at guard? I believe Heinsey, who was a tackle at ND, has been better than Bredeson. So even Barton at center and Hainsey at guard might be better. We'll see in a few months

bredeson only comes into play because they signed Runyan, Elumeanor, Lock, and Singletary. Those guys canceled out most of what they lost.
its not much different than the MLB system. If a typical team lost a QO free agent but signed a QO free agent, the compensation gain cancels out.
Tampa Bay rookie Graham Barton will begin his NFL career at center - ( New Window )
Hope that works, but the Bucs have said they hope he can start at center, but that guard is an option. This isn't like taking the best center in college football in the draft (Linderbaum or Humphrey) with a long resume - the guy had 5 starts in college at center. Schmitz started for three seasons and struggled as a rookie.

Can you please tell me what your preferences are for Bucs coverage online? I started with Pewter Report, Rick Stroud and following them on 'The Athletic'.
The following is from overthecap.com
"The Giants have a 4th rounder on the board for Xavier McKinney who was signed by Green Bay, but this is contingent on Ben Bredeson qualifying as a compensatory free agent (CFA). This could be complicated by the Bucs [who signed Bredeson] also drafting Graham Barton in the 1st round, should Barton displace Bredeson as a possible starter at guard, instead of Robert Hainsey at center.
The Giants and their fans should be rooting for Bredeson to win a starting job. If Bredeson’s contract does not qualify, [basd on snap counts] the 4th rounder gets demoted to a net value 7th rounder placed at the very bottom of the list."
