Y28 : 5/7/2024 6:43 pm
Lockett attended the Chiefs minicamp last weekend, but was not signed by Kansas City.

He will try again this weekend with the Giants.

I'm rooting for Thompson from Wabash

Wouldn't he make an amazing story.

Our qb room is loaded.
Looks like he was also invited to the Seahawks minicamp

NFL teams are allowed to have 5 veteran free agents attend the camp and participate in a tryout. The Giants actually have to pay a small stipend (I believe its $2,000) to each of the 5 veteran tryout players invited.

For those interested, here are the players that Joe Schoen invited in his two prior years as Giants GM:

2022 vet invites:

QB Brian Lewerke
RB Antonio Williams
WR Austin Proehl
WR Travis Toivonen
OL Devery Hamilton

2023 vet invites:

Edge Darryl Johnson
Edge Jonathan Kongbo
CB Iman Marshall
QB Bryce Perkins
CB Nigel Warrior

Love to see local schools get a shot. Didn’t we sign a guy from Monmouth? I guess being he “signed” he’s not part of this group?
there is still some

confusion on social media regarding Stewart. Eric pointed this out last week, that some posts say "tryout" and others say "signed UDFA". Since there is a post from his agent, calling it a UDFA signing, I am now showing 9 players that will get UDFA contracts following tomorrow's Giant physicals:

1. Missouri OL Marcellus Johnson
2. North Dakota State OL Jake Kubas
3. LSU DE/LB Ovie Oghoufo
4. Oregon DT Casey Rogers
5. UCLA DB Alex Johnson
6. West Florida WR Jon Jiles
7. Wyoming WR Ayir Asante
8. Rutgers Kicker Jude McAtamney
9. Bowling Green OL Kameren Stewart

If we learn Friday morning that 3 UDFA signings are happening along the OL, we should expect some OL cut(s) from the current roster as well.
Don't know why

it took me so long to realize Chaz Neal is Evan Neal's cousin
WR Austin Proel is the son of former WR Ricky Proel

and the brother of former Minnesota Vikings receiver Blake Proehl. Ricky Proehl was a very good wide receiver, drafted by the Cardinals which is how I mostly remember him, but he actually played for six NFL teams and in four SBs, winning twice, with the Rams and Colts. Interesting that Ricky Proel was 6 ft tall and his son Austin is listed at 5'9".
DeQuece Carter got an invite?

That’s awesome! Former Fordham teammate of MJ Wright! Both long shots, but I wish them luck.
They are bringing in Neal’s cousin

To interpret to Evan what the coaches are trying to teach him.

this Giants minicamp:

It will include a few eligible current roster players.

Eligible roster players are those that have not achieved one year of NFL credited service. I believe the Giants have the following 6:

Clearly newly signed rookie RB Dante Miller (S.Carolina/Columbia) will participate plus these 5 (as I understand the rule):

1. WR Chase Cota
2. CB Kaleb Hayes
3. WR Dennis Houston
4. LB Dyontae Johnson
5. LB Jeremiah Martin
Chase Cota

who the Giants signed on January 23rd, is an interesting player to follow for a number of reasons:

1. He is currently the tallest Giants receiver at 6' 4 1/8"

2. For anyone on BBI researching the QBs in the recent draft, you probably saw Bo Nix games at Oregon in 2022. In the first four games, Cota was Nix "go to receiver"-about 20 catches in those games. (Of course Troy Franklin was also heavily involved, and even more so after an injury to Cota)

3. Cota had solid success with his time at both UCLA and Oregon

4. The Giants practiced and scrimmaged with Detroit last summer-the team that signed Cota as an UDFA. The Giants beat writers were there and several times commented on the noticeable play of Cota.

5. In the Giants preseason game against the Lions in August, Cota had 4 receptions and over 80 yards.

6. Cota's Dad is Chad Cota, who was an NFL Safety for 8 seasons.

The Giants receiver group is crowded and its a certainly a longshot for Cota. But still- a player worth watching is WR Chase Cota.
