for Steelers last year? I'm not sure I've ever seen that bad of stats from a WR that started a full season. Would be surprised if he even made the team.
Still probably better than guys like hodgins if were being honest. The steelers qb play was about as bad as the giants for most of the season last year.
VET min deal but we can't have all speedsters on the team, we need some size and hands too. That being said I would think he is insurance against Slayton holding out and injuries elsewhere.
BY the way the Steelers passing game was awful last year. Pickens led the team with 63 receptions. Dionte Johnson was next with (WR wise) 51 and then Robinson..
Again, to me this is VET insurance but also a WR who is DIFFERENT than what we have on the roster now.

Worth noting that Robinson was lauded as a veteran presence with the Steelers. He was a cap casualty, but indications were Pittsburgh wanted to keep him at a reduced rate. Now he's a Giant, more than likely at that reduced rate.

With the signings of Robinson and Rourke this week, the Giants will need to create two roster spots once the undrafted free agents officially sign tomorrow.

At 6'3 and 220 pounds Robinson adds a different body type to the room and some veteran presence. He has caught 562 catches for over 7000 yards in his career. Last 1000 yard season came in 2020 - last three years has been in the 33-38 catch range for 280-410 yards.

Robinson always used his frame well for contested catches and does a good job blocking in the run game.....experience in the big slot last year....big-time leader in the steelers locker room and was a cap casualty
That's just based on reports but I assume true. If he's with us through the summer and camp to help the younger guys there is value in that imo. If he makes the roster as a backup, okie dokie (but I kinda doubt he will).
wonder if slayton talks arent going the way they thought and he's on his way out.
robinson is still good in contested catches and doesnt drop the ball but other than that he looks pretty cooked. on field i dont see how he'd crack the top 5 and he brings no ST value.

"good job blocking in the run game"...this could be what they want from him. Also, with a short passing game getting the ball in space to the speesters at or near the LOS, he may be what they're looking for blocking in the secondary.
signing. But it's a VSB deal. Robinson is competition for camp. They are not trading Slayton. He and Robinson are two totally different receivers.
robinson and slayton are different receivers,
hyatt and slayton are not though. and hyatt is currently #4.
id give hodgins (5), mackenzie (6) and gunner (7) better shots at making it over robinson. maybe even boykin (9) because he's good on ST.
the slayton question has very little to do with robinson, do you cash in depth, save some money, and maybe bring back an asset? if the asset is worth it, id do it, especially if he's unhappy with his contract. a player still on a rookie deal with some cheap years left in a less crowded position group plus some saved money might be worth it. robinson is vet camp fodder either way imo. jamison crowder without the special teams value.

I wouldn't trade Slayton. He's worth a lot more to the Giants than to any other team. We'd never get fair market value for him. Maybe a fifth at most. He's already vastly outplayed his draft status and is a solid veteran presence. Hyatt is still raw and despite all of his promise, Nabers has yet to play a down in the NFL. It's also a long season. Players get hurt. We finally have a good group of WRs that is fast. I'm not breaking that up for a day three draft pick.
He can play the Sterling Shepard role of team cheerleader.
Having a “cheerleader” or 2 is very useful. There is always some level discord between leadership and teams. In sports or work. Lack of morale is the enemy of effort. Game of inches still. Effort matters. Morale matters. Having veterans around for Nabers will not suck.
acid i generally agree re slaytons value but just for discussion
here are some players rumored available right now - if i could get lattimore for slayton, id do that. saints cant trade him pre-june, but post-june 1 i believe he'd cost his new team a few mil less than slayton costs.
roster move. This guy has an excellent chance to stick.
Even if they believe he has a poor chance to stick, he has value as a veteran mentor during training camp. He may be of help to youngsters like BFW and Cota when it comes to teaching techniques that take advantage of their height.
No. They ran out of silverware and needed the fork in his back.

Average age of #NYGiants WR room in offseason: 24.8
Average age of expected #NYGiants WR room in-season: 24.5
@PLeonardNYDN
The #Giants have signed veteran WR Allen Robinson II, the team announced.
Robinson, 30, started all 17 games for the #Steelers last season, had 34 catches for 280 yards.
Brings real pedigree: 7,028 career receiving yards and 43 TDs in 127 games. This is his 4th team in 4 years (#Bears, #Rams, Steelers, Giants).
Was a cap casualty in Pitt. Played more slot (496 snaps) than out wide (267 snaps) for the Steelers, but played both (per
@PFF
).
An interesting addition given Darius Slayton’s contract situation & early spring absence

#Giants announce they have signed WR Allen Robinson.
I'm told he was signed to a 1-year deal for the veteran salary benefit, per source.
Nabers
Hyatt
Robinson
Slayton
Hodgins?
McKenzie?
There is a path for him for sure.
I’m not excited about ARob, but I could see why another vet presence is important to the room
Alyssa Sorto - ( New Window )
That would make sense. I'd rather sign Robinson and trade Slayton and get a draft pick than extend Slayton.
Alyssa Sorto - ( New Window )
That is a whole lotta ass
He's Kenny Golladay with a better attitude. Low risk and possible red zone target.

both are essentially on 1 year deals with nothing guaranteed beyond this year so i was planning to let slayton walk next year anyway, why not consider if he can bring back something decent now?
