With the the end of the 2-day mini-camp, we wait to see if any of the 53 tryout players will be added to the roster. If so, players currently on the 90-man roster will need to be cut.
Meanwhile, "Phase 2" of the Giants offseason program continues and the rookies will have to be quickly assimilated into these activities.
Phase 2: 3-week period. On-field workouts may include individual or group instruction and drills, as well as "perfect play drills," and drills and plays with offensive players lining up across from offensive players and defensive players lining up across from defensive players, conducted at a walk-through pace. No live contact or team offense vs. team defense drills are permitted. |
The next big scheduled event is the start of the Organized Team Activity (OTA) practices on May 20. This marks the start of "Phase 3."
Phase 3: 4-week period. Teams may conduct a total of 10 days of organized team practice activity, or "OTAs". No live contact is permitted, but 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are permitted. |

TE Tommy Sweeney is signing with the Bears after a tryout at rookie minicamp, per source. A comeback story. Sweeney was with the Giants most of last year but sat out after he collapsed and had a “medical event” on the practice field.
Ohhhh, that’s him….our QB can’t miss him, can they?
Did Gil Brandt draft a lot of fat wide receivers, running backs, tight ends, and defensive backs?
And, everytime I’ve seen Nabers speak, he comes across as a poised, nice young man. He’s impressed me.

I noticed the same thing. Watch the interviews with these guys... this is the happiest draft class I can remember.

I saw the same thing. No matter what sport, I want the guys who exude pure joy in the game in which they are playing - Like Juan Soto on the Yankees.

Most of them just becoming millionaires helps.:)
George Young said it too.
That’s one big “ Johnson “😉. Kidding aside I watched the video and am very impressed by his mom and her drive to keep the family together- while going to law school and ultimately becoming a lawyer. Hats off to her and Theo for never quitting. Glad we have him.
if they hit that same schedule this year it would be released this Thursday.

i think teams are allowed to double up temporarily in spring/summer they just dont tend to do it with players expected to be around long term.
definitely a little unusual to do it with 2 players planning on being on the 53 though.

Gano is still on the rsoter and still assigned #9 as well. Did NAbers get Gano to switch?

On a related note, has anyone heard how Gano is doing?

They have more players than numbers.
They have more players than numbers.
so i think it's an assignment out of convenience and to create as little controversy as possible knowing whatever he chose now appears to be temporary. and if he likes #9 gano is a known willing negotiator.
adjacent - i wonder if they are considering changing their retired uniform rules knowing that this is going to be an issue every year now. especially since so many of the single digit numbers were retired players pre-merger.
duplicate numbers accomplishes the same thing.
the problem isn't numbers for anyone in the summer, it's that marquee players more and more want the single digit numbers as a status symbol. often whatever their college number was (hyatt had the same issue last year with #11).
the single digit retired numbers didnt matter much before the new rules opened those numbers up to non-QBs/kickers.

p.s.--I know most of you are aware of this factoid, but some of the youngsters may not...
I hear the meatloaf at the players cafeteria is to die for. Especially with the mashed taters and gravy

Happy don't cut it.
You need guys who hate losing.
Nothing against them being happy in practice, but it doesn't tell you a whole lot.
