Prime and Peacock both fine for me. Check your hardware, firmware, etc. either way it’s going to improve not degrade.

Christmas games
stretch234 : 5/15/2024 11:39 am : link
Highly doubtful that CBS/Fox would let the NFL take games away from something they have paid for.

Likely is that due the Christmas falling on different days of the week, they never had a contract for that day.

The next 3 years have Christmas on Wed, Thu, Fri

This wouldnt happen if people werent willing to pay for it
who will they use as their broadcast

There was a time when having NFL Sunday Ticket and a cable subscription would get you access to every game. That time is over.
Netflix

will have to pay one of the big channels to “produce” the game for them

Thats big money. Even if they’re not happy of losing a dessert game as part of their annual/block contract agreements, I’m sure NFL is legally covered and built themselves the capacity to do this.

The NFL isn’t stupid, they aren’t going to intentionally piss off broadcast partners. Xmas falls on a Wednesday, likely outside of either party’s contractual window. I’m sure Fox and CBS aren’t happy about it, but also understand there is little they can do about it.

Goodell does NOTHING other than what the NFL owners tell him to do. The puppet isn't the scumbag here, this was a decision by the NFL owners.

This isn't the 1960's-1970's. There are no more independent commissioners. There are only paid lawyers by the Leagues to do the teams bidding. FYI, if we had the Wellington/Tim Mara spat today, Goodell would never have stepped in and forced a solution on the Giants. He does not have the power Pete Rozelle had.

You need to pay for these. The league may go bankrupt without it. And Goodell will say, it's for the fans' benefit.

jvm52106 : 5/15/2024 1:03 pm : link
there is a silver lining for those who care- this is a precursor to games being available to stream by team, conference, division- specialty packages..

Overall, it is the times we live in. You complain about the NFL but they dominant the broadcast world sports wise (at least US wise anyway) and they know it. Besides, can't blame the NFL, they aren't taking cheap routes to do this, these streaming services are paying HUGE $$'s to get these rights.

Netflix is looking to compete against Prime and Max (and Peacock) by now getting some NFL games, WWE broadcasts and I would assume down the road possibly UFC stuff too.

For reasons beyond my comprehension this subject has an emotional component I don't understand. What I do understand is price and choice.

Netflix Standard with Ads - $6.99/M
Peacock Premium with Ads - $5.99/M
Prime Video - $8.99/M
Paramount+ Essential - $5.99/M
ESPN+ - 10.99/M
OTA HD Antenna - $9.99 one time cost

For $40 a month you can get a great package of content. What's the most exciting is that ESPN will be introducing their live stream product next year and if they buy NFLN, that means MNF and ad hoc NFLN games will be included there.

The league's annual revenue the year he took over was $6.16B. That's pretty good. The 2022 annual revenue was $18B. And they have a goal of $25B in annual revenue by 2027.

Were they losing money? No. That's silly. Are they significantly better off with Goodell in charge and taking the heat for moves they want? They sure are.

Meh, I don't think Goodell needs to do much other than stick his finger in the air to see which direction the winds are blowing and stick his hand out to take the money.

He's got monopoly programming to sell at a time when there are multiple channels if you will all looking for unique programming in order to survive the brutal competition. If the NFL isn't making bank now, it never will.

Their mutual problem is the consumer. How much time, money and energy does the consumer want to spend shuffling among these different streaming services before the consumer says "this is too much time or money or effort and I am going to go do something else."

What is so hard to process?

How on earth some of you need to be taught why this sucks I will never know.

Oe more time, every time a game that was normally accessible via network TV, cable TV or the football package gets moved to yet a new outlet that costs money, the fan now has to pay more money.

10 years ago you simply needed cable and network TV to watch every prime time game. This is a stone cold fact. Now, that same poor slob that still pays for network TV and cable TV can no longer watch every prime time game.

It aint hard to figure out.
short and sweet
djm : 5/15/2024 3:19 pm : link
we're getting fucked one small bite at a time.
ok fine get rid of traditional cable TV
djm : 5/15/2024 3:23 pm : link
you're service suffers as a result. Now you aint getting Yankee games or Knicks / Rangers games unless you find the right sports streamer package that offers YES/MSG. And the streaming quality isn't nearly as good as cable TV quality.

So choose your poison. Except the only choice, if you want to watch the same sports content you have always watched for the last 30 years is to BUY MORE PACKAGES. PAY MORE.

Don't even think it's any different than that.

No im not, im getting considerably more. 10 years ago I didn’t have Max and it’s full library, I didn’t have all the other services and their content. I can now add YES and still be under the $145. I don’t watch the Knicks or Hockey but if I really wanted to, FUBO is an option.

In 2014 I was paying for a bundled package of shit and rarely watched anything more than 5-10 channels. Now I can pick whatever I want at any time and scale my costs whenever I want.

Fine, there are still many cons to cutting the cord and going full stream. If you're a NYR, NYK and NYY fan it's all but off the table or basically costs the same or more and you're getting less.

To me, no DVR is a deal breaker and there are many other negatives. I've checked into it so many times now. Cutting the cord is untenable or not financially viable it if you're a fan of the 4 pro sports.

I have DVR
UConn4523 : 5/15/2024 5:05 pm : link
there are certainly cons, but most of them are negligible for the vast majority of people. It’s hit/miss for sports fans, that’ll get worked out in time.
