I laid in bed replaying that magnificent third period.
How did they do that as they played an awful second period.
Fox really needs the rest imv as he is playing injured.
Going forward Florida would be a tougher opponent as they are so deep.
How do Florida and Boston compare with Carolina? Better, worse, about the same?
Personally, I think Florida is the second best team left after the Rangers, with Dallas right behind them. Their forward group is elite. They are deep, have speed, are the most physical team in the league, highly skilled, and can beat you in a lot of ways. They can beat you to loose pucks, score garbage goals, score off the rush, they're really hard to defend. Defensively, they leave a lot to be desired. Bobrovsky is an excellent goalie but he will have his clunkers too. In my opinion, Florida is a tougher matchup for the Rangers than Carolina was. I highly doubt Boston comes back to win this series, their goaltending is their strong suit, Pastrnak and Marchand are incredible but they don't have much else. That said, Swayman or Ullmark can steal games, which is why they're in position to tie this series on home ice tonight.
Thanks for the breakdown. I was hoping the next series might be a little easier but I guess they will be long series that can go either way from here forward
We lost some real ones over the years Link - ( New Window )
man. Classic.
Is Mike in Long Beach still around under a different handle? He was fun to mix it up with. He was young and dumb, and loved to talk shit, but he was a good guy at his core.
Mentioned the flu was running through the locker room. Could explain some of Game 5 sluggish effort, could explain why Chytil hadn't played since Game 3. Get the rest and hope BOS/FLA goes 7 games.

I don't really care if that flu thing is eye-wash, spin, or cope of whatever sort....it's working on me! All is well!

Its rare that you hear these stories and you can actually see it on someone’s face. Kreider looked awful yesterday, which makes the hat trick even more impressive.
I've always heard it said the ice at MSG is that way because of the heat from the subway system underneath. Not sure what Carolina's excuse would be!
MSG ice has always been an issue with NBA playing there too.
Subway venting system too was a problem for a long time.. but Rangers benefit from a quick pass open game more than a sluggish one.. throw it in and die on the boards helps Carolina more, Not fully freezing the pucks IMO That was done on purpose

Take the tin foil hat off. Pucks bounce when they're not frozen and wouldn't benefit either team disproportionately. It especially not help the faster team (CAR). That makes no sense.
The home team has to provide frozen pucks to the cooler in the penalty box before each period and the league validates this. every two min of play the puck is replaced with a new frozen puck if not sooner.
Southern cities in particular struggle with the temperature in rinks, while tech can keep the ice frozen the outside air gets in and causes fog, condensation, soft ice, etc. it happens up north too, but later in the year. It was 80's yesterday in Raleigh. If there was any effect to the conditions it was likely because of the weather, not because the Hurricanes warmed up the pucks.
LOL. I told my dad and uncle at the beginning of the playoffs that if they get to the SCF, we are going to a game. I was highly tempted to go last night, had it been tonight with no work in the morning, I would have done it. The logistical part of it would have been grueling for me. I'm 2.5 hours from Raleigh.
RE: Carolina was definitely displaying some classic MSG
I've always heard it said the ice at MSG is that way because of the heat from the subway system underneath. Not sure what Carolina's excuse would be!
The Arena is 7 floors above the ground. It wasn't the subway. MSG Ice nowadays is a million times better than in the '70s when MSG was independently owned. Ned Irish would not let them keep the ice frozen during basketball game like every other arena in the world so the ice never set. Some BS anout the bball fans getting cold. Many Rangers and other players got hurt because of it, Dale Rolfe's career was ended because of it. The Cat was always pissed about it.
that stopped in the '80s under Gulf&Western ownesrship, and 2 subsequent major renovations improved the ice making facilities since.
In the 80s, weren't there complaints about the floor for Knicks games

It's actually kind of remarkable that they've made it this far with Fox being a shell of himself. He's moving around like an 80 year old man out there.
Any of these teams can beat the Rangers. There's never gonna be a cupcake in the ECF or the SCF. But Carolina is far and away my least favorite team to play against. Their style of play is a nightmare. I expect everyone to look far more "like themselves" against the next opponent.
More re: Carolina - I wasn't aware until the series postmortem that I see on twitter from their fans (the twitter algorithm is absolutely FEEDING me Canes accounts), but they are in for a real roster reckoning. Tons of RFAs and UFAs. Good chunk of money "available", but given the number of openings they have it isn't a lot. Lots of different ways they can go with it, but that roster is going to look pretty different regardless.

Maybe I'm nuts, but I think he looks way better than he did against Tampa in that ECF run?

You're nuts he looks terrible. He's playing good defensively, but he doesn't have the same elusiveness/agility offensively. He wasn't ever really fast, but he has some elusiveness.
I don't agree the Aho play was dirty, like Greg thinks, but I do agree that's probably where he was injured.
I agree he isn't peak Fox, I just think he looked worse in the ECF against Tampa, lol.
In the second half of the third period he had a LOT more jump in the offensive zone. Looked a lot more like himself. Maybe he just pulled it, but he got better offensively as the third period went on.

I was talking about the hit by Nick Jensen in the Washington series.
Oh, yeah, right the Aho/Fox play was much earlier this season but I also did not think the Jensen hit was intentional let alone dirty. A penalty because you are responsible for your body, but not malicious IMO.
4 more days to rest injuries before ECF series begins
What a period. Hockey is awesome.

BinALB was always entertaining and Arcarsenal was a reasoned and level headed man.

Adam Graves said it's way hotter when the arena is packed, too.

New Haven Coliseum was the hottest place I ever played. it was stifling. It was like my grandmothers apartment on Christmas Eve when I was a kid.
Milford Ice Pavilion (where the Drury's home ice at Fairfield Prep was) was the best. So cold in there. Fast ice.
