Carson Beck, Georgia The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder had a superb debut season as a starter. He completed 72 percent of his passes for 3,941 yards with a 24-to-6 TD-to-INT ratio. He ran for 116 yards and four touchdowns. He threw nine touchdowns and only one pick in five games against ranked opponents. In the red zone, he threw 15 TDs and just one INT. “I think he’ll be the No. 1 overall pick,” said one veteran SEC defensive coordinator. “A few things really stood out to me after playing him. He runs better than you think because he doesn’t do it often and he has such a quick release. He gets rid of it fast as s—. And he’s really intelligent. He’s one of the few quarterbacks who doesn’t look to the sidelines all the time. We were showing 0 (blitz) and he got them into a little quick screen. He’s really impressive.” “He played lights out against us,” said a DC of a top 25 team. “He’s got that prototypical first-round QB look to him. His touch on the deep ball was tremendous. I don’t think there is a better quarterback in the country right now in terms of his size, accuracy, accuracy on the deep ball. I think he throws a better deep ball than Jayden Daniels.” |
Don't forget that there'll be QBs who will come out of nowhere this fall & skyrocket into the top 5, much like Daniels & Burrow. Remember, no one-as far as I know-had Burrow going #1 heading into the '19 college football season.
that has happened every year forever. guys move up and down.
the top guys are generally pretty durable. darnold, tua, herbert, lawrence, bryce young, caleb, maye were all pretty high odds to be top picks their respective years and all ended up going top 6.
the 1 year break out from nowhere that actually works out in pros is the newer phenomenon (like allen and burrow).

McCarthy and Daniels weren’t even in the radar at this time last year. Riley Leonard was beig talked about as a top 10 pick. Even Ewers was too.

I can see a guy like Dart jumping up on draft boards. Especially if he performs against Georgia and Bama.
Will be 24 DURING the season. Potential for growth is very limited.not a threat to run and was awful at Wisconsin.
doubt that, gators look like an implosion waiting to happen. id bet against napier making it through the year.

is a bad oversight.

I agree things went sideways in Madison. But Mertz was a highly recruited QB (4 stars) and needed a change of scenery. He found it in Gainesville in 2023. See the game below. Mertz quietly had a very nice year.
And I think there are even bluer skies ahead. Not saying he's a lottery pick, but there are some very good throwing skills.

Not sure what Napier has to do with Mertz's skills, but I don't really find Napier impressive as a HC, either.
From the little I focused on Beck, I thought he had a better deep ball than Sy said he did, so I found this interesting.

hard to overcome a toxic environment. napier couldnt even manage a winning record with AR15.
If he was, he wouldn't still be at Florida, given their NIL issues.
Watched a lot of Dart last year and feel he's a better prospect than Matt Corrall was, but similarly takes a ton of hits in the Kiffin offense. The hype train will be real given Ole Miss' early schedule and the WRs they have.
Milroe under De Boer is going to be the interesting evolution, maybe not this year but going into 2025. He can throw the deep ball, now can De Boer get him synced on the intermediary stuff.
Randomly, I didn't realize KJ Jefferson transferred from Arkansas to UCF under Malzahn. That will be interesting in the Big 12.
