It is pretty startling. Even the 1980s were not as successful as perceived.

Yes. The Giants are somewhat of a strange franchise in this regard. They are either at the top and win it all, or they are really, really bad. There is very little middle-ground with this franchise for some reason.
I forever appreciate the super bowls

But, the super bowls have created something to fall back on for ownership. The bottom line is, this franchise does not string together successful, sustained success consistently. And that is 100% fair to say even with the super bowls.

Think about this. The NFC East hasn't had a repeat division winner since 2004. Yet, the Giants haven't won a division since 2011. And they went 9-7 during that division title. That's really bad.

The super bowls have created something to fall back on? Come on. They won a Super Bowl in every decade since the 80s. That is a legitimate accomplishment, not some silly stat they get to call on.

Division titles are great, but far less important since the introduction of wild cards. The last 10 years have been pretty miserable but using it to color the previous 30 is silly.
Well

for over a decade the Giants have been dealing with the destruction of the LoS.

Look at how many PB/AP seasons on the OL/DL in the division starting in 2012. Staggering how bad the Giants have been compared to the other teams (Philly and Dallas especially). Ten years between Snee '12 and AT '22.

Horrible front office for over a decade did a lot of damage.

8 in 53 years-not counting ‘24 obviously-is pretty rough.
Wow

I would have bet my house that we had more than Washington. At least we have a high division titles to Super Bowl wins ratio.
Ugly, but the main thing is
Simms11 : 5/17/2024 2:27 pm : link
We have 4 Championships in that time though.
On the bright side
eugibs : 5/17/2024 3:07 pm : link
They've won 4 times as many division championships as the Cardinals.
Given the choice

I doubt any fan would ever trade a Super Bowl title for multiple division titles.

Sure everyone wants them to do better season to season but there a countless players and fans of other teams that wished their teams had won more or even one championship. The bottom line is each season the goal is to win a championship and should be valued much more than seasonal wins and no amount of lamenting poor seasons will ever change that.
Wow that is pretty lousy
Crazed Dogs : 5/17/2024 3:36 pm : link
I will take the 4 Super Bowls wins.. Only the Cowboys had more at 5 ...

I am confident things are going to turn and get better...I know we still need a QB....but the roster and the depth behind it is improving....

What I want to see this year is improvement on the OL as when the Giants turn the corner that is where it is going to start.

The defense is improving. You win in the trenches and I think Schoen recognizes that.
we actually had more wins
jvm52106 : 5/17/2024 4:07 pm : link
in 90's and 2000- 2009 than the 80's.

In the 80's we forget we had three seasons of 4 wins or less and one more with 6.. 1 SB Win

90-99 we actually had 7 seasons of 7 or more wins. No season less than 5 wins. 1 SB Win

2000-2009 we 88 wins with 5 seasons of double digit wins and two SB appearances with 1 SB win.

2010-2019 we had things come off the rails. 70 wins in the decade with 5 seasons of 6 or less wins.. 1 SB win

2020- 2023 we are still in this weird realm of can't get out of our own way with 25 wins over first 4 seasons.. Interesting note, we have 5 more wins through first 4 years of this decade than first 4 of 1980's.. * 82 season only had 9 games but still..

Dude, are you even a Giants fan or solely a Jones fan? We've played in 5 Super Bowls & have won 4. For you not to know that is pretty embarrasing.
...
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 5/17/2024 7:32 pm : link
*embarrassing.
Cmon the Eagles and Wash would love to have been in 5 SBs
PatersonPlank : 5/17/2024 8:24 pm : link
and winning 4 over that time. Division titles are nice, but not all that great. Wash would switch places with the Giants is 1/2 second

This thread is about division championships. Let’s stay on topic here. In that regard we are the worst.
