I'm headed out to San Francisco and Napa Valley this summer with the wife and sister & brother-in-law. We're spending one night in San Francisco and three nights in Napa.
I've been out there many times, but I love to source restaurant recommendations from BBI.
I'm going to try and hit State Bird Provisions while in the city, I have never been able to make the timing work on a reservation there in the past.
In Napa, we are staying in Calistoga area.
Any recommendations are welcome, thanks!
Where in the city are you staying?
Seconded.
PRESS caught my eye. Also looking at Bouchon in Yountville.

Went to Bouchon too. Also good.
Here’s the list that our concierge hooked us up for:
RH Younville
Ad Hoc
Auberge du Soleil Restaurant (also the hotel we stayed at- super nice)
Another recommendation is Bistro Don Giovanni.
Also a fan of Thomas Keller’s Bouchon- without it being anywhere in the stratosphere of his $$$ French Laundry
On the finer end Californios is excellent, as is Quince. If you can't get into Quince, Cotogna next door is also a great experience. Double recommendation for those two as Jackson Square is best 3 block area on the planet.
As a vegetarian the French Laundry was completely a waste on me. Bouchon was much more enjoyable. The haricots verts at Bouchon stay with me.
I lived in North Beach in San Francisco for many years, and frequented a cafe called Cafe Grego across the street from the Stinking Rose.
One of my favorite activities was sitting outside and listening to a specific driver of one of those hop on and off tourist buses you could hear the microphone from. He had this thick Eastern European accent. When he said "Everything here is made of garlic" it sounded like "Everything here is made of garbage."
We really liked Hog Island Oyster Co, famous for their clam chowder.

Sit at a table on the water, watch the marine life, order the dungeness crab, repeat.
We're huge fans of Laura Michael Winery's reds, btw.
