Probable Starting Pitcher Matchups for the games in Miami against the Marlins today & tomorrow.

Notes:
-Today’s game will be on WPIX as will tomorrow’s matinée.
-The forecast for this afternoon’s game in Miami is steaming, but since LoanDepot Park has a retractable roof, the weather won’t matter.
-The Mets are running into the Marlins at a strange time. While the Fish have the worst record in MLB presently, they’re actually playing well now. They’ve thrown three consecutive shutouts (including last night) for the third time in their franchise’s history and for the first time since 2005. FYI: Tylor Megill will start on Monday in Cleveland.

-Click HERE to see the list of Mets transactions so far for May.
-Click HERE to see the Mets' 26-man active roster.
-The Mets' 4-man bench for today's game will consist of Narváez (L), Stewart (L), Baty (L), & Taylor (R).
Check out the Minor League thread for May below:

Against a lefty. Let’s see him do it versus a righty.

+1

I think we can get something for J.D. around the trade deadline. Two things are for sure: He's a good influence on those around him and he can still hit.
I'm really liking what I'm seeing from Sevy.

It was fair to question. A lot of money and years for a closer.

I kept Diaz over Alvarez in the 23rd. that wouldn't have worked out much better. To make matters worse I did re-draft Alvarez, lol. And I have Lindor. It's like double the pain.

A guy jumps up and down tears his knee up
moespree : 5/19/2024 12:46 am : link
And suddenly his velocity is down and he can't throw a slider anymore.

WTF?

I'd hate to think that freak injury cooked his entire career, but I don't know. It's not looking good.
Who here has pitched ?Your legs are everything when asserting velocity
Rory : 5/19/2024 8:06 am : link
Through your follow through. Even 3 months of de-training can result in a serious depleted level of strength. Diaz was down for 8 i believe and even had more time off after that. Im not sure he has even ramped up half way yet. I think what we are seeing is a combination of that and possible dead arm.

The important part is that they allow him to naturally build back up and for him to NOT overcompensate or change his mechanics which could cause injury at the base of the elbow.

I think you are absolutely correct. Diaz needs time and management should not overwork him during this period.

Wrong. At least I'll know now not to take you seriously on BBI. Being critical means you aren't a fan? Laughable.
Diaz
pjcas18 : 5/19/2024 9:28 am : link
tore his ACL on March 15, 2023.

He didn't throw another pitch in a real game until March 30, 2024.

Of course every patient is different, but I don't think it's physical anymore. The recovery time for an ACL is 9-12 months for a running back who needs to plant and cut on the knee while the propulsion from pitching also puts torque and pressure on the knee it certainly shouldn't be a longer recovery time. Pitchers, like was the case with Diaz, begin pitching 5 to 6 months post surgery (which is why there was some discussion about Diaz pitching the end of last year) he has since has 6 more months to build up strength in the knee.

His issue, like he has said including yesterday, is likely mental and mechanics.

Diaz
Sammo85 : 5/19/2024 9:32 am : link
has had these “mental” struggles before. Lack of confidence can lead to not trusting his pitches, losing focus on mound in his pitch counts. His velocity issues though are tied to physical constraints he has developed.
This team is a mess
MyNameIsMyName : 5/19/2024 12:18 pm : link
And I have no idea how they become competitive any time soon.
When i tore my calf, i stopped throwing for at least 4 months
Rory : 5/19/2024 12:28 pm : link
Then i gradually went back to long toss and ramped up with a weighted ball. After that i was rushed and wasnt strong enough in my planting leg and would grip the ball tighter which put more force on my elbow when my shoulder was externally rotated. 1 month later, partially torn labrum.

My strength was like 1/2 at that time. Dead arm is now joke and a major red flag that your not ready.

Good post Rory. I was chatting with my buddy yesterday about this. My friend was good enough to get a tryout with the Pirates years ago, so I respect his take on things as much if not more than anyone. His words to me were as follows:

-Diaz ain't right after the injury.
-Bad control; no confidence.
-fastball less velocity.
-He had an ACL injury like Diaz and observed that Diaz isn't comfortable yet with the leg.
-He also said that it takes more time and repetition to be back at full strength.
-He also mentioned that the mound he got injured on in Miami may have been in the back of his mound unfortunately due to bad memories there.

Bottom line: this is gonna take some time. This is not something that will go away soon with Diaz.

he tore his patellar not his acl. its a much less common injury so recovery/rehab isn't as much of a known thing compared to acls.
