A few months ago I went to Una Pizza Napoletana in Manhattan, which has won tons of awards and is considered one of the best pizza places in the world (was ranked #2 in the world in 2022 by the list below). Anyway, while there these 2 guys next to me were going on and on about pizza, their favorites, using all sorts of "pizza lingo", talking about famous pizza makers etc aka they clearly knew their shit. Anyway, I decided to ask them what their favorite NY slice shop was (Una Pizza Napoletana is outstanding, but a slice shop it is not), I told them I loved Scarr's on Orchard St (GREAT pizza).
They both said their favorite was new to the scene and in Ridgewood Queens, Mano's Pizzeria. I finally made it out there.... I must say OUTSTANDING pizza. Arguably the best I've ever had. The Bartool guy only gave it a 7.8 but the "community" on his app gave it an 8.9, which from what I can tell, is an extremely high score on there. Guys that work there (owners? not sure? were unbelievably nice too)

Living on the West Coast, I truly miss NY pizza. I've been fortunate to visit Brooklyn twice in the last 9 months and have had great pizza both times.
A new place just opened in my city. A San Francisco based pizza maker is doing a limited expansion. I will say their Sicilian square is excellent. Not as good a NY pizza, but very acceptable.
The squares at Mama's Too are unlike anything I've ever had, extraordinary. (I've only gone to the original location.)
L'Industrie is great, I used to live on S. 3rd so it was an easy stroll. I've seen tons of people mention Mama's Too but yet to make it out. Best Pizza is very good, Prince St. pizza is overrated (in my view). LOVE Scarr's and again, Mano's is now top tier for me. Really good.

Have you had L'Industrie or Mama's too? They both opened second locations right next to each other in the village by accident but everyone says they're right up there with great slices.

Thanks for the heads up. I used to be a pizza fanatic (both making and exploring). I've had Best, Scarrs, Luigis, New Park, Tommy's, Louie and Ernies etc. On a good day Lucia in Flushing is my favorite, but tastes vary. Mano's looks very intriguing.
For slices you can't go wrong with Prince St pizza. I live in Tribeca and LTD Pizza opened up last year, which has become one of my favorite spots in the cit. And because of its location is never that crowded.

Had a big fire last year. Store has been closed. He has been doing pies at Coniglio's in Morristown on some Sundays.
New York Pizza Suprema right across the street from MSG. It was actually picked as "the best" pizza in NY by a guy named Slice Harvester who tried all 362 pizza places in Manhattan (at the time when he did the "survey"

Al also had a health issue lately that has set him back a bit. He is still trying to reopen in Elizabeth, but who knows how long it will be...
Suprisingly the place with no visible name in penn stattion next to krispy kremes.

but curious to know what folks think is the best slice in Midtown? (Say, between Rock Center and MSG, ideally West of 5th ave).

Don Pepi's! I don't know if it's the best but it is surprisingly very good.
Two Boots over by the Grove path is pretty good. They're from the city originally and have a few locations.
If you like DiFara's, check out Lucali in Brooklyn. The owner models his craft after Dom from DiFara.

I live in jersey city but could hit up any in the surrounding area for a good slice. I have tried Razza bout those are personal pies and i haven't been in a long while. Looking more for a great slice spot

Yeah, unlikely thats what he's looking for. Evidently the name 2 boots refers to Italy and Louisiana, which sort of explains why the one time I had it (at a work event) there was pizza with crayfish on it.
My recommendation above was Pizza Town USA. Its a small shop/stand that's been family run since the 50s. The son and daughter have been running it for quite some time. The daughter prepping a pie is simple work of art, video below.

Really? I was there 2 weeks ago and had a plain and a marg and thought they were done well.
In Jersey I prefer all the bar pies so you can't get slices which stinks. They're generally small with you can still rip a full one though.

There great pizza on the West coast, just not great slice shops.
But I will say, I find NY/NJ pizza the best on the whole. Not sure why it’s so much better than what I’ve had elsewhere. I live in Georgia now, and can’t find anything that compares, despite every pizza place calling it NY Style Pizza. They just can’t duplicate it.
Now that I live Upstate, I really miss the pizza. Nothing close to that in the Rochester area that Ive seen. Been here for 20 years now.
