It's just that I identify with this skit. When I was in 2nd grade, our school scheduled a talent show. Our class presented a stage play.
All the other kids loved practicing the speaking parts, except for me, I had acute stage fright, so my role was to play a rock. (A big piece of cardboard, with my feet sticking out, under it).
I've shared that with my family and we all get a laugh out of it.
... the Steve Allen show sometimes as a kid. My Dad (the actual Bronx Bob) was a fan. That clip wasn't exactly the best edit. Steve Allen had a set of regular characters including Don Knotts as (usually or always) the nervous guy and both Tom Poston and Louis Nye ("Hi HO, Steverino") as other recurring characters. If you liked the performer, you probably got a chuckle or two out of the material no matter what it was.
