and its madness. They tried to sell me "20 pages a month" subscription service. This is after I bought the thing for $100. I assume that means they'll send me enough ink and paper for 20 pages?
Madness. A fucking subscription service for home printing!
Anyways, I was able to just use it like a normal printer but I will never buy an HP again when this thing inevitably breaks.
I didn't realize from the picture how big it was. I ordered it from Best Buy and my wife picked it up. She said she needed help getting it out of the car.
I said really and then I saw it and I thought holy F*ck what did I buy.
it's like the WOPR for home printers - back to the 90's. lol.
that said it's pretty awesome and prints fast - B&W and color, scans and copies very easily. it does use ink, but it seems like it's more efficient than some others I have had that use ink.
i don't recommend it unless you want the aircraft carriers of printers, but for the price and function it's awesome.
I thought this would be a small desktop printer. it's not.
of the best printers in a bunch of categories. One is for "best home office" and one is for "best printer on a budget". I'd take a look at this list and see if one of these suits your needs.
Inkjet printers are junk. They are designed to break after 2 years because of the plastic gears. They may be constantly refreshing the ink jets with expensive ink fluid, so they don't dry out.
You may not be able to re-fill them with third party ink...and you may be paying more for the ink than you did for the original printer!
Lasers are much cheaper when you look at cost per page printed in the long run. HP is now a joke, they are requiring a CONSTANT online connection, and they push firmware to block third party toners.
My suggestion is do a little research, especially on what your consumables will cost, and if you can do third party toner replacements. I like Brother printers (though they are also trying to get you to do toner subscriptions...make sure you NEVER update your firmware, so you can still use 3rd party toners!!)
If you don't need color (I go to CVS to print color stuff), you can find good deals on Monochrome Multi function printers (or just plain printers, if you don't need scanning).

This.
Its no joke. We have an HP wireless printer/scanner/copier and had a recent firmware update which rendered it useless. 45 minutes with HP support finally corrected it. What a PIA it was.
I print to it from my laptop, kids print to it wireless from phones, laptops, chromebooks (for school), anything. scan pictures, contracts, other documents, flawlessly and easily.
Again, it has drawbacks (mostly the size) but that thing is rock solid.
Print, Scan, Copy (I don't think it faxes). I like the ink wells as opposed to the HP cartridges I was dealing with before. We got this about May 2020 and only had to refill the Black tank once and none of the colors. Good print and scan quality.

Oh, and wireless so it can be moved easily, can print from my phone or laptops without being hard wired, and I think it can print remotely too, via an app.
Refills will kill your budget. I would also avoid HP. I have a Samsung laser. Very reliable. Cartridges are not cheap but they last, giving good value.

Inkjets are rough, but ink tank printers can be a great value. I have a Canon ink tank that gets 7-8,000 pages per refill.
Depends on what you need, but I have an Epson WF-4833
I should also say that I looked at smaller printers but they seemed limited in some things I needed. Lots couldn't can a doc into a pdf (which is a must for me), had limited paper storage, and were much slower. So basically you have to think about what you need

Works fairly well, but laser is still king.

Cost me $179 at staples.
Black and white only. No wasting time on getting ink tones right. If I need a color print, I am off to staples with a USB thumb drive.
HTH

This is the one we use. The last firmware update caused it to shutdown completely. Had support on the phone for 45 minutes to get it corrected.
