3rd row behind Mets dugout, about 80’ down the first base line.

Too bad the Mets aren’t more fun to watch. Going tomorrow, too. Same seats. Very summery weather here. Nice.
You know Cookie was scratched, right?

Severe neck spasms, they say.

Yep. In the game notes.
Cookie's 37 now and falling apart.

He signed a one-year deal with his former club this past off-season for a cool $2 mill. I think he was making $14M last season with the Metropolitans. His numbers stink this year. Next stop for him is prolly the Mexican League with Kenny Powers in 2025.
i got a few severe neck spasms watching batters make contact off him

seemed like a good guy but he has been shot for a couple years now.
Look at this genius on today's Yankees thread:

He was turrible. I can't believe Eppler opted in to his contract in 2023 when the Mets had a team option on him out of fear they were short in their starting rotation. Total waste of $14 mill.
More first ball swings.

are an embarrassment of a baseball team. Piss poor fundamentals every goddamn day. How Houser can get another start is a real mystery. Tear this shit show to the ground ASAP.

Maybe this exit velocity stuff works.

I remember that poster getting pi$$y about Yankees fans not being as active as the Mets fans are on this site for some reason. They're so insecure, lol.

Meantime, the SYR Mets are spanking the Yankees Scranton team.

Score is 10-0 Good Guys. Jose Butto is working on a 2-hitter and throwing grounders.

These SYR Mets are more fun than the big club.
It was reported that Mendoza wants to see somewhere between 70 and 80
Optimus-NY : 5/21/2024 7:34 pm : link
pitches today from Houser. Dude has given up 5 runs already. I'm not sure going nay further past this inning would be wise.

Good for Butto. I like him and wouldn't mind him being part of this rotation on a regular basis next year all season. For now, he's gonna have to rise the Flushing-Syracuse shuttle due to his options. Always good to beat the Prison Strpers' farm teams too for obvious reasons.

man that really sucks. Was one of the best LH we've had in over a decade.

also would have been a valuable trade candidate.
Homer by fry had an xba of .020 only out in 4 parks

To spend big bucks on Alonso would be a huge mistake. Power hitters do not age well, he can't run, is a mediocre first baseman, and doesn't hit for average. The Mets are trying to build through the farm system and probably are a few years away from being a contender. And a fucking little leaguer should know not to stray so far from the third base bag to eliminate any possibility of tagging on that blooper. If the guy dives and comes up empty, Alonso scores easily. Shitty fundamentals.

better.

I get mad when I think how we offered him 7 for 150 and he turned it down. Situation reminds me of Conforto. Guess we'll see how he shakes out end of the season.

experience of what it's been like to lead this organization for about 20 years.

the good news is even in the worst case this continues, if they can execute another trade deadline like last year (shameless plug linked below) this can still be a productive year. click your heels 3x and say j-rod, j-rod, j-rod. alvarez will get healthy and some of the others from AAA will eventually arrive later this summer, and watching young guys get chances is always fun.

trying to put myself in the organization's shoes and given cohen's comments preceding this latest run of uninspired losing baseball, if i were the manager i think i'd challenge the team and call it like it is. if you believe in this clubhouse, if you want this group to remain mets, if you think you are better than this, then go out and show it every day for the next 8 weeks or there may be changes. these first 8 weeks of the season werent it. if that's uncomfortable then either embrace that discomfort or start packing because playing with high expectations is never going to be comfortable, especially in ny.

thank you again optimus. for those that don't read the minors thread, let me introduce you to j-rod. this is what last year's deadline brought us for pham, by next year he may be the top prospect in the system.

this is his 101 mph homer from earlier today, pretty soon he will be promoted to A-ball where he will be one of the only 17 year olds (if not the only one). not even mauricio or alvarez were in a-ball before they turned 18. he is presently hitting almost .400 with almost the same number of walks as strikeouts. when jett debuted in the league j-rod is in now he was 18 after getting drafted, it was a real small sample but he hit .250 and walked 50% less often than j-rod.

jett started his age 19 last year in A-ball, so as far away as 17 seems, j-rod has that same kind of eye at the plate that could get him on the map quickly.
Guess I’m not paying attention as much this year
Metnut : 5/21/2024 10:46 pm : link
but didn’t realize they sent down Butto and gave Houser his rotation spot back for some reason. Not hard to argue that decision likely cost them the game tonight.

Houser has been out up almost every outing this year and has an era near 8 (!). Why the hell did Butto get demoted for him? Butto was walking too many guys but was still obviously a better option that Houser.
