I think Rempe is a better hockey player than people think, but we can't risk having him on the ice given the refs want to call everything on him.
BTW, I didn't think the refs called a great game last night, but how are they seemingly constantly in the way?
He's not IMO (better than people think), but I think he can be. Only is the playoffs the right time to get him the experience? He gets lost in the D-zone and on breakouts and the Rangers struggled with both of those with more experienced players and I don't think he is an upgrade in those areas. There is a reason when he's active the coaches don't play much or in the 3rd period of close games. it's not because they underestimate how good he is, it's because they don't trust him in those situations. Don't you agree?
To play devil's advocate, as I mentioned earlier in the thread, his strong points are things the Rangers also struggled with, so do his risks outweigh the potential positive? I don't know.
I think the penalty thing is a little overblown. he got like one or two penalties for being the size he is and one was probably completely unwarranted. I believe he only had 6 minor penalties (granted in limited min and he's probably averaging 60 PIMs per 60 MIN played, lol, but that's skewed due to the majors).
For the knowledgeable hockey fans, in your opinions is this as dire as it looked last night?
I need a reason to believe.
To boost your optimism, see the link. Expected goals aren't final say on who played better, but I do like to look at them to just get a sense for who had the better chances.
Rangers had the better total xG 2.68 -2.14 and that is including the Panthers empty netter which is about a half goal boost. At 5v5 it was Rangers 1.71 to 1.54.
Rangers didn't generate a ton of quantity but they did still get quality looks and also kept Florida's opportunities down despite more offensive zone time Link - ( New Window )
if the Panthers are going to be as satisfied to play a low-event game like they were last night, capitalizing on one's chances is what will be paramount.
In the case of last night, it was 2 missed breakaways, a couple of pipes, and a couple of shots that were just plain air-mailed.
On the other end, it was a bad read on the "real" goal and a Keystone Cops moment caused by Igor outside of the crease.

I don't always trust coaches (Kakko's usage is very dumb, for example), but sort of agree. I hear you, but I think some make him out to be just a goon. He isn't John Scott.

Does seem like an unlikely future all-star game MVP.

To have our #1 defenseman healthy for ONE FRIGGIN PLAYOFF RUN. I swear, Rosival might have been the last one not to be hobbled by the end of Round 1.
Fox this year and the last, McDonagh and his broken foot.
It is my biggest worry with this team. A #1, all-scenarios defenseman is maybe the most important piece to a Stanley Cup roster. Hedman, Keith, Doughty, Pietrangelo, Makar... I don't recall them playing through debilitating injury. So damn frustrating as a fan.
How about scoring more than 0 goals?
Duh doy. Adam Fox with two functional legs would presumably help the team do that.
I expect us to look better and win tomorrow
