To recap what each front office did with regards to their QB position group, Pittsburgh did the following:
-Trade away their ineffective 1st round QB + a 2024 4th round pick to get back a 2024 third rounder + two 2025 7th rounders
-Sign Russell Wilson to a 1 year deal($1.2M)
-Trade for Justin Fields for a conditional 2025 6th rounder
-Sign Kyle Allen to a 1 year deal($1.3M)
---vs. what the Giants did which was---
-Try and fail to trade for the 3rd overall pick for Drake Maye
-Sign Drew Lock to a 1 year deal($5M) after Tyrod signed w/ the Jets
So Wilson, Fields, Allen vs Jones, Lock, DeVito. Which would you feel better about going into this season? Given the benefit of hindsight, would you rather have done what Pittsburgh did this offseason?
I think I'd prefer Pitt's situation since they have a much lower cap hit for the QBs (and no dead money for next year) while NYG has a monstrous cap hit in 2024 for DJ and a significant dead money amount in 2025 if they move on.
it's all upside for them basically.
If Wilson doesn't work out. So what?
If Fields doesn't work out. So what?
they can move on pain free and if they don't work out it probably means they are in good position to draft the QB they want in 2025.
The bar for them is really low to improve the position.
From what I've read, Fields major infirmity, primarily slow to process what's in front of him, is the biggest knock on Jones. Both are very good athletes, can make plays running, are hard workers and good kids. Not sure how much of an upgrade he'd be.
The Giants have the worst QB group in the NFL.
If the Pats and Giants situations were reversed the Giants would have totally ignored trade offers so even though they tried they were stuck w Jones and clock. And tbh I don't want Silson anywhere near this team. Hes better than Jones but no where near all that good so even if he plays well Pitt isn't going anywhere. They still need a QB after this year. Fields is a healthier Jones. Both Teams need a Qb next year. No matter what
Yes, that is why I would go Steelers here
And both Fields and Wilson will still be bad.
You're a parody @ this point. 'A top tier QB'...LOL.
Pittsburgh is in a much better place in regards to QB.
Thid is the correct response

and Wilson are just terrible! If the defense holds up their end, the Giants will win more games than the Steelers!

Seriously. I really think we might be seeing the impact of CTE. I have had my disagreements with people like Go Terps, but this is insane.
Wilson is washed up and Fields washed out in Chicago. The only reason that Pittsburgh situation is better is because of the money that was already committed to.
Personally if you take money out of the equation I would rather have the Giants situation.

You can’t take the money out of the equation. Steelers have the flexibility to keep Wilson or Fields next year by signing one of them, or they can sign a free agent, or they can draft one. Giants have to pay some money to a 6’4” albatross next year and they don’t know what that cost will be. They can’t pay a free agent as much as the Steelers will be able to pay, but their chances of drafting a QB are about equal to the Steelers right now. The Giants only advantage is that Tomlin won’t allow the Steelers to finish below 0.500 and the Giants will be happy if they finish with its 2022 record.
The Giants have the worst QB group in the NFL.
What about Las Vegas? Do they have anyone in their quarterback room?

No doubt Vegas needs to update the QB position.
However, I'd take The Gardner over Jones. I wouldn't want either as our long term starter. For the short term, I have little doubt Minshew would run the offense better than Jones. In addition, O'Connell looks like a better backup than either Lock or Cutlets at this point.
NYG ranks 4th in cap allocation to the QB position at 18.72%
Oak ranks 8th (they have to pay out Jimmy G's dead money this year) 14.16%
PIT ranks 29th at 2.39%

I was thinking of who's QB situation is worse. I came up with LV and maybe CAR.

The year before with Jones contract. So the comparison is not equal. We had to pay Jones this year no matter what and trading is not an option.

The Steelers are in the same position the Giants were in in 2022. If Fields or Wilson perform well they either have to Franchise them or sign them to a big contract. If they don’t they have no QB.

If you consider talent relative to committed dollars, we are the worst team in the NFL and it isn't close. In fact, I would bet that through the lens of this metric, the 2024 Giants have arguably the worst quarterback situation in NFL history.

I believe 18.74 (according to Spotrac) is just Daniel Jones. When you add Lock's number it is up to 20.7 - I believe according to Spotrac.
I mean, c'mon, to have over 20% dedicated to the position (among the very highest numbers in the league for QB, and have those players be Jones, Lock and DeVito, it's just fucking incompetent. There's no other way to put it. Schoen should be fucking embarrassed. And if he's not feeling shame, I want him gone.
But if he sees the mistakes he made committing mega dollars to totally unproven talent, expecting limited players to suddenly become great, then I can give him a mulligan. But this is a bad position that could lock him out from ever being considered for a GM job ever again.
I dont think thats true
But it just seems like a good portion of the fanbase is tired of putting hope in Daniel Jones anymore. Changing it up and giving the reins to anybody else with either past success or unrealized potential would've been preferable to running it back with Jones, Lock, DeVito, especially considering the how much cap space the group costs by comparison.
