NFT: Favorite Bob Dylan song?

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 5/22/2024 8:15 pm
Ever since I was 9 & heard 'Tangled Up in Blue' for the first time, I've been a Dylan fanatic & I usually get an itch every couple of months to just go through his entire catalog, which I'm doing now. What a legend. But picking his favorite song is so tough for me. One day, it'll be 'Like a Rolling Stone'. The next it'll be the aforementioned 'Tangled Up in Blue'. & then I'll hear a song like 'Hurricane' & that's my favorite Dylan song in the moment-"And another man named Bello, movin' around mysteriously/I didn't do it" he says, and he throws up his hands/I was only robbin' the register, I hope you understand." Amazing songwriting there.

If forced to choose, I'd probably go 'Like a Rolling Stone', which is the consensus for his #1 song. But 'Visions of Johanna', 'Positively 4th Street', 'It Ain't Me Babe', 'Tangled Up in Blue', 'Idiot Wind', 'A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall', 'Don't Think Twice It's Alright', 'Subterranean Homesick Blues' & a lot more are in consideration, Haha.

Long live Bob. I saw him once on tour in Durham years ago. But I gotta see him again on the Never Ending Tour. I know his voice-never great to begin with-is all but shot & he changes up the lyrics all the time, but still...I'd like to see the legend one more time. He's 83 on Friday so he's obviously not going to be around forever.

I remember me and a buddy in high school being really into Tweeter from the Traveling Wilburys. Not sure what Dylan fanatics think of that one?

Watchtower is another one not mentioned yet, doesn't need Hendrizlx guitar (though both versions are great).

The three that have at one time or another been my favorite Dylan song are "If You See Her Say Hello", "Visions of JoHanna" and "It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)". But a lot of strong contenders for that top spot.

a top 30 is not unrealistic when it comes to Dylan.

Gives me a good idea for a show on the very modest circuit I play.

Tangled is Dylan’s masterpiece.

It works on so many levels, love the guitar chords, and those lyrics…wow.

I love I Shall Be Released, although I might like The Band’s version better. If I had to pick a less heralded song than those 2, I love Sweetheart Like You.

Agree, but to isolate one song from this repertoire would be an injustice
