Ever since I was 9 & heard 'Tangled Up in Blue' for the first time, I've been a Dylan fanatic & I usually get an itch every couple of months to just go through his entire catalog, which I'm doing now. What a legend. But picking his favorite song is so tough for me. One day, it'll be 'Like a Rolling Stone'. The next it'll be the aforementioned 'Tangled Up in Blue'. & then I'll hear a song like 'Hurricane' & that's my favorite Dylan song in the moment-"And another man named Bello, movin' around mysteriously/I didn't do it" he says, and he throws up his hands/I was only robbin' the register, I hope you understand." Amazing songwriting there.
If forced to choose, I'd probably go 'Like a Rolling Stone', which is the consensus for his #1 song. But 'Visions of Johanna', 'Positively 4th Street', 'It Ain't Me Babe', 'Tangled Up in Blue', 'Idiot Wind', 'A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall', 'Don't Think Twice It's Alright', 'Subterranean Homesick Blues' & a lot more are in consideration, Haha.
Long live Bob. I saw him once on tour in Durham years ago. But I gotta see him again on the Never Ending Tour. I know his voice-never great to begin with-is all but shot & he changes up the lyrics all the time, but still...I'd like to see the legend one more time. He's 83 on Friday so he's obviously not going to be around forever.
Love Minus Zero / No Limit
Good post...so many great great songs
Watchtower is another one not mentioned yet, doesn't need Hendrizlx guitar (though both versions are great).
Tangled up in Blue
It’s all over now Baby Blue
The video is on YouTube…I’m not savvy enough these days to link it.
Absolutely one of Dylan’s best to me
Gives me a good idea for a show on the very modest circuit I play.
Yes. Check out One Headlight.
I shall be released
Like a rolling stone
To make you feel my love
Mid. Blind Willie McTell
Late. Key West (Philosopher’s Pirate)
These could all be swapped out for many many other songs. His catalog is s never ending gift with so much to discover.
Too many great songs to pick one from otherwise.
Ever see video of Sophie B. Hawkins’ rendition at the 30th Anniversary Party, with Cheryl Crow singing background vocal?

I love I Shall Be Released, although I might like The Band’s version better. If I had to pick a less heralded song than those 2, I love Sweetheart Like You.

Agree, but to isolate one song from this repertoire would be an injustice
Highway 61
Hurricane
House of the Rising Sun

Been fascinated with the lyrics since I first heard it on cassette tape.
