the softball emoji makes me not want to click on this thread. I'm not anti-softball, I'm not anti-emoji, yet for some reason it looks wrong for a Yankee thread title. .02!
doesn't seem quite as great as the last 2 years. My biggest "what if" over the last several years is Cash trading for him instead of Montas. (I have no idea which prospects that would have meant, tbh.) Oh well.
struck out with the bases loaded on a 3-2 pitch that was a foot off the plate. Hope that run doesn’t come back to bite them in the a$$ here in such a close game.
Seems like the Yankees have a disproportionate number of caught-stealing recently. Looks to me like they’ve been getting guys on base, but can’t blow the game open.

It's pretty amazing how competitive this Mariners team is with 0 hitting. If J Rod gets it going and they get literally 1 or 2 other guys going, they could be very dangerous.

This is what I meant in the other thread about the bullpen being an 'adventure.' Nice shutout win for sure, and zero ERA, but we had to bring in our closer in the 8th because guys couldn't throw strikes with a 5-0 lead?
All that said, hard to complain about how the Yanks are playing these days....

Yes they have had "adventures", but they are 2nd in MLB in relief pitching ERA and 4th in WHIP. 2nd in a lot of other categories..
like studs . Keep their arms healthy and we are sitting pretty.
As for Cole, I dont know what caused the elbow nerve inflamation but there is no guarantee it will not reappear. He is 33.
Give a word of thanks to Jake Cave and the Twins for Gil
Soto is different but he reminds me a little of Bernie. Judge is only guy in the league who can argue against Ohtani. Judges’ right center deep easy power is different. Judge has been destroying the sport this past month

Soto is so unique, I'm not really sure who to compare him to. A less powerful Barry Bonds? His eye is that good. He's blessed with one of the best hitter's eyes I've ever seen, and the decisionmaking, aggression, and power when pulling the trigger. And hits the other way. It's remarkable.
My memories of Roberto Clemente are from childhood and I never saw Joe DiMaggio play. But Clemente would be my comparison for Soto - and as for how Judge is playing right now, I know it sounds like blasphemy but I don't think DiMaggio is an unfair comparison. He's playing a great CF and when he doesn't hit a homer, he hits a double. The game with four hits the other night ... hey I've been a Yankee fan since 1958 and I don't remember anyone with four hits that looked like that. Not Reggie, Bernie, Thurman, anyone.
Plus the two-homers-in-one-game (Judge and Stanton) thing is fascinating if you like Yankee history. They are climbing up a very interesting list in the history of Yankee baseball.
to the first paragraph above, but not Mickey either, in terms of four hits in one game. Prime Mantle > Prime Judge, but Prime Judge is not a closed book yet and Prime Mantle was sadly too short. I see more DiMag than Mantle in Judge, though - just the elegance of the swings and the defense.
He sure looks good today.
Great job again. Great tip of the cap to the ovation. This is a likeable team.
Well it worked beautifully this time.
And another Mariner pitcher takes a seat...
This is one of the hottest 20 game stretches I've ever seen. I wouldn't be surprised if his OPS this month is the highest non-Bonds month in decades.

Yup, and before that Soto shortening his stride with 2 strikes against a lefty and poking one through the drawn in infield for an RBI single

From about .198 to .275 in a few weeks....
It's really fantastic to see. Guy's en fuego.
If Holmes sinker starts out high and right - bad. If it starts down - good. He is pretty predictable.

20 May games, not including today, Judge is hitting .373/.512/.881.
True. They have fight in them.
