NFT: OG considering other teams

Pete44 : 5/23/2024 1:25 pm
Per Jake Fischer of Yahoo sports, there was a belief at the combine that OG Anunoby will consider other offers.

AJR - please tell us this not true.

Knicks have the right to match, no?
Sean : 5/23/2024 1:27 pm : link
I read that Philly will make a large offer at minimum just to raise the price.
He’s an unrestricted free agent.
bceagle05 : 5/23/2024 1:35 pm : link
No right to match.

I’m supremely confident they’ll re-sign him but he is a fit on any team, especially Philly. How bout OG and Wemby together in San Antonio? Instantly an elite defensive team.
He’s unrestricted
Jon In NYC : 5/23/2024 1:35 pm : link
so he can sign wherever but the Knicks can offer him the max. So unless OG wants to leave the Knicks can match any offer.

I’d be stunned if he’s not back. You don’t fight through what he did to come back for game 7 if you’re trying to leave NY.
Thanks for clarifying

His agent is Leon's son
moespree : 5/23/2024 1:40 pm : link
So it would be surprising if he left. Though it certainly looks like no discount for his father either.

an extra year and more money. It would be a disaster if he left.

Fwiw his primary agent isn’t Leon’s son. But the son is on OGs “team”
I think the Knicks are gonna re-sign him
bceagle05 : 5/23/2024 1:43 pm : link
and get more out of him offensively over the next few years - we’ve seen a lot of players sign here and get better under this regime. OG showcased some things in the game against Indy prior to his hammy injury.
The speculation was that a deal was mostly in place
81_Great_Dane : 5/23/2024 1:51 pm : link
at the time of the trade. The Knicks weren't going to give up Barrett and Quickley for a rental — at least, not on purpose.

However, OG is smart to gauge his market value.

The Knicks are fully expected to offer the max right?
Metnut : 5/23/2024 2:05 pm : link
I doubt this is a real issue unless the Knicks are trying to get cute.

Not the max, no. But I think he’ll get north of 35 mil per. Probably close to 38-40.
he has no desire
Bruner4329 : 5/23/2024 3:51 pm : link
to play with that dirt bag Embide. Why would he. The guy went out of his way to try and injure players in the first round plus although he is a great player he is nothing but a whiner and malcontent. The dollars are a big issue which the Knicks can pay more than any other team but the fit is big as well.

That was my first thought as well, especially given the tampering complaints with Brunson. There is no chance the Knicks traded Quickley and RJ for OG without the broad strokes of a deal already agreed on, not when his agent is Rose's son.
As an aside, am I the only one who thinks Siakam isn't a max
Strahan91 : 5/23/2024 4:00 pm : link
player? The media reports on it like he's 100% a max player. He's 30 years old already though and while it's not a choice between them, I think both OG and Randle are more valuable players than Siakam.

it is pretty obvious that OG has done everything to get to NY, including firing Klutch and going to CAA, then when he was traded to NY it was reported he would be willing to take less in NY..

If worse ckmes to worse the Knicks would up the offer if they had to..

nygiants16 : 5/23/2024 5:26 pm : link
4 teams told him that they got word that OG will listen to offers and then at the end says he expects OG to re-sign with the Knicks..

Are we really going to pretend that a player represented by CAA hasnt already talked numbers with Leon Rose? the guy that recruited OG to CAA is Leon Rose's best friend lol

Looks like Trajan Langdon is getting the Detroit job - will that affect the trade market at all? You had mentioned something could happen depending on the hire.

It doesn’t sound like Weaver is going to get demoted and I don’t think Langdon would be proactive in trading Cade but I think it’s a matter of when not if Cade asks out

injuring his hamstring to play in game 7 if he didn't have a handshake deal with the Knicks already.

As others have pointed out, we can offer him an extra year and more money than any other team, so unless he hated being in NY I highly doubt he's going elsewhere.

Seems like a reporter trying to generate attention and get aggregated. Haven't seen any of the national reporters say something similar.

listening to Fred Katz on the Knicks Film School pod.

1. Do people like Macri? HIs general persona seems to irk me but I can't place my finger on why. CP interviewed Katz too yesterday and just did a much better job imo

2. Katz pretty strongly suggests the Knicks passed on Dejounte at the trade deadline for personality reasons

3. Mentions PG and Mikal specifically as guys that fit the Thibs mindset, but that's not sourcing but just a hunch he has

I used to enjoy Macri’s content, and still subscribe to his newsletter, but I feel like his stuff has gone downhill. Although it’s always been clear he’s a huge Knicks fan, I always felt like he did a pretty good job of having an objective view of the team. This year has moved further away from that with the more success the team has had. The second half of this season he’s veered into full on fanboy territory. I’ve actually been considering canceling my newsletter subscription because I find myself skimming through most of the material as he just falls all over himself to proclaim how much he just loves this team and everything they do.

Macri and Katz always go all over the place when they do a Pod togethee..

I thought another interesting thing was Katz syaing they are probably going to go around with BOjan and Mitch package with a ton of picks rather than with Randle to try and add to this team..

Macri is a good guy, really like him, but not sure how he got himself so embedded in the Knicks universe as I would assume he is a super-fan that just took off. He is not overly knowledgeable to me. Also, he changes his tune about players in almost every article. RJ Barrett is my favorite example as he LOVED him and then turned on him when he was traded and gave every example of why the Knicks traded him.

I agree but I think Quickley was probably going to walk if we kept him cause he probably would get starter money and a chance to start on another team which we probably wouldn’t match.

What happens with Quickley this off season is going to be fascinating to me. I think there may be someone out there willing to pay him what he’s looking for but I still find it hard to believe that teams are going to be lining up to give him a massive contract. I like Quick and he’s a good player but overpaying him to be a focal point of a team will end up as a mistake, imo

I think he stays in Toronto, they view him as a great fit next to Barnes, can play off of him or with the ball..

The question for Toronto is though how much you going to give him and is building around Quick, Rj and Barnes really going to take you anywhere?

I happen to enjoy KFS and Macri. But he is an acquired taste. DJ and Benji have the x&os down while Jeremy really understands the cap. IMHO macro is the face that keeps it together and can run people the wrong way. These are just fans with opinions.

Katz on the other hand has the pulse of the team and will drop nuggets in various podcasts. Check out the one he did with KFTV

Thanks for the heads up. I watched it today. Yeah it was great. Katz is probably the best most thoughtful guy on the Knicks beat. He doesn't let emotions cloud his opinion either. CP really just led him into topics and let him go on. Probably a 1% or less that OG leaves. The more I look at it I keep Randle and use Bojan and picks maybe Mitch if you have to throw him in to improve the team. PG is the type of guy you could land with that package. I'm not crazy counting on PG as the #2 star because health wise he's not reliable at all. However you keep Randle and OG he fits in real nicely in that starting lineup. I also am into what I mentioned earlier getting DeRozan in a sign and trade along with Caruso for Bojan & picks.

The Knicks were apparently both the best offensive and defensive team in the league last year as long as OG was on the court.

I would sign up for Mitch and Bojan for PG. But we'd have to be ready to max him it sounds like, or the Sixers will. But in a vacuum yes I'd do that. If it goes well that's a championship level move. Love PG as a big 2 and secondary creator.

I also would be in for Derozan and Caruso. Love Derozan as a 6th man of the year candidate and second unit initiator. Could play really well next to Deuce and I guess Caruso.

I'd prioritize:

1. Booker
2. Bridges
3. PG
4. Derozan

but I'd trade Bogie and Mitch for any of them. (I do know Booker would require Randle leaving)
Think Langdon will trade Ivey?
Jim in Hoboken : 5/24/2024 6:14 pm : link
Maybe Thibs can make something of him, I’d like a 2 guard who can attack the rim.
Is there any chance
Jon In NYC : 5/24/2024 6:35 pm : link
Derozan signs with us for the non taxpayer MLE at 12.9? Made 28 last year, but clearly on the downside of his career. Where else to go ring chase? Maybe Denver, maybe both LA teams (where he's from). Probably a pipedream but worth a call.

Would captain the bench unit with Deuce. The fit on the bench with Hart isn't great as two non shooters, but maybe they can get away with it.
