Tommy DeVito looked a lot closer to QB2 than QB3 today.
Again, it's an OTA in May.
But I wouldn't be running DeVito off this team so quickly. #NYGiants
DeVito is definitely someone to monitor this spring and summer. Does he have a chance at QB2? Could he feasibly start? Was he a large reason NYG did not draft a developmental QB?
count him out. Daboll and Shea seemed genuinely impressed with how he saw things on the field, and that is really unusual as a rookie, especially one who had so few practice reps.
Competition is good, it makes everyone better. May the best man win.
An offseaon can cause a big jump for a player. I'm not saying he's our QB, but it's worth keeping an eye on him.
Remember, he knows the offense. The new guys are experiencing it for the first time. He also has experience with most of the receivers, while the new guys don't. It would be bad if he didn't look better than them at this point.
The question is can he continue to look better than them.
If you compare DeVito's and Jones's pre-NFL careers, DeVito's is better. If you compare their 2023 season, DeVito's is better.
Maybe DeVito's just better.
I don’t understand why people don’t seem to understand this. Jones is not a great college QB who came into the NFL and played below expectations. He was a mediocre college QB with great measurables and a coach with ties in the NFL that got him over drafted.

I agree, but it ain’t happening. That’s why the ‘no scholarships’ line is such BS.
With an out in 2025 I feel like Jones will be on a short leash this year. Whoever wins the competition between Lock and DeVito may be on the field sooner than we all realize.
I'm really surprised Lock was their choice as backup. A guy who can't run, and who'd miss if you told him to hit the grass with the ball. DeVito is more talented player.

Who else was really out there?
Mariota?….he’s terrible as well
I made a post weeks back that stated the case to let Tommy
Play out the remainder of the season instead of Tyrod who we knew was not in our future plans. Baffling to me we didn’t give the kid more live reps knowing the season was already lost.

It’s not baffling for 2 reasons.
1. He was absolutely lost
2. We were still trying to win games
As a fan I get the “fuck it let him play stance” but Dabolls job is to win.

Flacco wouid be the only one I would have interest in

But if he wins a roster spot and plays well, I’ll be happy to be wrong.
I’m only slightly less skeptical of Jones and Lock. That is a terrible QB corps — unless Jones elevates his game and never misses a game. Chances of that elevation seem less than 50-50 to me. Chances of him staying healthy seem close to zero.
De Vito could turn out to be the QB1 by being the lesser of three evils.
Is with injuries to Jones & Lock. It’s that simple. Whether he hangs on to QB3 is the question. It would be very difficult for Schoen & Daboll to save their jobs if Devito is the starter any other way. Even if he was the best QB in training camp he isn’t winning the job and he’s not going to be QB2 without an injury either.
If the Giants really believed in DeVito they would have started him down the stretch instead of Lame Duck Taylor. Devito is a distraction because he is easy to root for. But I believe Rourke was brought in to replace DeVito. IMO the best case scenario is that DeVito plays well and the Giants can trade him for a pick. Daboll is going to wear thin on answering questions about him. That’s my 2 cents

Who knows what his future holds, but he's clearly a gamer.
STOP dude! Por favor!
Sure he could be a #2 QB. So could Daniel Jones.
I think his off the field persona is hurting him with the Giants. I wish he would put that down now and just play football.

what is his off field persona?

@Connor_J_Hughes
I thought Tommy DeVito was far & away the best QB at practice today. #Giants
Daniel Jones didn’t do team drills*

I bet that's especially true for a QB who experienced some starting success and has reason to be confident in himself and the process.

The guy took some endorsement money, that’s it. What can you point to to show he’s not 100% focused on football?

Don't forget the Morris County Womens Club, they have big bucks

Brissett too….but he is starting
Lock is a slow footed, inaccurate thrower. He's a very different quarterback than Jones, and the game planning will have to be different if he plays.

Love this years draft and we have some other good young players but without a qb it will be ugly.
Yes. Taylor plays at a notch below par with his head but a notch above reckless abandon with his body.
The last thing you want in a QB2 is that he makes QB3 very relevant.
Isn’t this a downside? If our current QB1 goes down then we want QB2 to be almost worthless.
That will allow future QB1 to be upgraded.
